He attended college at Lincoln, Illinois. He was a farmer and stock raiser, taking great interest in his profession.

When only a boy he was deprived of his hearing, thus handicapping him in many ways. Yet he was always jolly and happy.

He suffered a stroke of paralysis, April 14, 1918, and never fully recovered from its effects, but from that time on he was a changed man, always so patient and kind.

While thus afflicted he had a dream, and dreamed that he went to Heaven and saw Bro. Lingenfelter. His wife asked him if he had made any arrangements about going to Heaven. He answered: "You don't know what I've done." Later on, he said to his wife: "Are you going to Heaven?" She replied, "I hope so." "Well." he replied very firmly, "I'm going to Heaven"

He was exceedingly fond of his three grandchildren.
