Notes |
- Bill was the youngest son of Joseph Edgar Brissenden and Nancy Edna Junkins of Clay City. He attended Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1940. He met Marjorie Alice Fairclo at OSU and they married in 1942. In December of 1940, Bill joined the Marines. He served with the 12th Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Marine Division in the Pacific Islands of Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. He was on Iwo Jima when the flag was raised. His last assignment was Commander of the General Court Martial Brig in San Diego, CA. He was discharged from active duty December 1945 as USMC Major and retired as USMCR Colonel.
After returning from the war, Bill worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Klamath Falls, OR. In 1948, he accepted a Veteran's homestead in Hazelton, ID where Bill and Marj began farming and started their family. Buildings used on the homesteaad were moved from the Minidoka Japanese Internment camp. Bill started with the J.R. Simplot Company in 1952. Simplot took them to Rupert, ID, Scotts Bluff, NE, Pocatello and Boise, ID. While in Pocatello, Bill was instrumental in starting the Simplot Games, now in its 32nd year. After 30 years with Simplot, Bill retired in 1982 as V.P. Administrative Services.
In retirement, Bill and Marj loved to spend summers at their cabin near Stanley, ID. In the fall of 2002, they moved to Salt Lake City to live with Dan and Marcia.
Bill was devoted to his faith and active with Boy Scout leadership. He was a generous and loving man with a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family, nieces and nephews and many friends from the communities where he lived.
