  He served with the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Bob worked 31 years at Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1996 as a line operator at the Morton Parts Distribution Center in Morton. He then worked in the visitors center as a tour guide at the Morton Parts plant and later as a greeter at Lighthouse Automotive in Morton. He was a member of Grace Church in Morton, where he served as head usher for 17 years. Bob enjoyed working on small engines, specializing in lawn mower repair.
