- Mr. Robert D. Luthe, 65, of rural West Salem died Sunday June 16, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
Services were held today (Wednesday) at the Little Wabash Church west of West Salem with Rev. Melody Brawley officiating. Burial was in the Little Wabash Cemetery with the American Legion McCormack Post No. 658 of West Salem presenting military rites. Ingram Funeral Home of West Salem was in charge of the service.
Mr. Luthe was born August 14, 1919 in Edwards County, the son of James and Anna Barnhart Luthe. He married Mary Margaret Travis on December 13, 1947 in Harrisburg.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret; three sons, James of Lawrenceville and Michael and George both of West Salem; three daughters, Roberta Brown of Evansville and Margaret Jane Luthe and Robbin Shaw, both of West Salem; three sisters, Gladys Pankeau of Champaign, Edith Mason of Albion and Frances Luthe of Hazelwood Missouri and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy, in 1982, and two sisters, Blanche Witte in 1976 and Virgie Deischer in 1984.
Mr. Luthe was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Little Wabash United Methodist Church, the American Legion McCormack Post No. 658. He was a charter member of the West Salem Rural Fire Protection District also a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.
