1 | Entrance, Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois Mount Olive Cemetery was founded in 1889 by the Scandinavian-American community of Chicago. Today, the cemetery is available to everyone, regardless of race, nationality or religion. The cemetery features a limestone archway at the entrance, and is one of only a few cemeteries to have a bell in the tower that is rung as funeral processions enter through the gate. The original limestone chapel was built in 1889 and in service until 1960; it still stands today. There is also a Viking-themed drinking fountain near the cemetery's entrance. | |
