    Entered active service as an Apprentice Seaman on July 6, 1943. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Station Farragut, Idaho; Naval Training School Wright Junior College, Chicago, Illinois; Naval Training School (Elementary Electricity and Radio Materials) Stillwater, Oklahoma and Advanced Radio School at Naval Training Center, Corpus Christi, Texas. Assigned to and served with, in turn, Air Transport Squadrons 10, 9 and 12; and naval Air Station Olathe, Kansas. Earned the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as an aviation radio technician first Class on April 8, 1946 at the Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.

    His obituary states he served from 1943 to 1946 during the Korean War, but those dates would have been for World War II. The Korean War was from 1950 to 1953. His military headstone clarifies that he served in both World War II and Korea.

    Services for Maggie (Dot) Duff, 93, who died Sunday at the Olney Care Center, will be at the Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelemeir Funeral Home in Clay City with Rev. Jack Martin presiding.
    Burial is in Clay City Cemetery.

    She was born in Clay City Sept. 2, 1889 to John R. and Mary (Babbs) Raley. She married Robert Earl Duff April 27, 1913 in Clay City. He died Sept. 23, 1966.

    She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the OES and a member of the Clay City Garden Club.

    She is survived by a son, Robert Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Monroe (Emma Jean) Lawson and Mrs. David (Helen) Taylor, both of Clay City; eight grandchildren and seven great-
    grandchildren.

    Mr. Duff served as a Pvt. in the 1st North Carolina Cavalry, CSA. Other sources indicate that James Duff was a 1st Serg. in Co.F and Co.A 6th North Carolina Cavalry,and in Co.F,7th Battalion North Carolina Cavalry , CSA .

    James N. Duff was the brother- in - law of David G. Tilley , and their burial plots are side by side .

    Emma Brissenden Duff is the daughter of William Brissenden (1808 ENG - 1881 IL) and Eliza Bunting Brissenden (1815 ENG - 1887 IL).

    Miss Emma Brissenden married James Newton Duff January 7, 1875. They are parents of seven children.

    Mrs. Emma B. Duff, 85 years old, of Clay City, Illinois, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Smith, 1729 West Twenty-first street, after a brief illness.

    She is survived by six daughters, one son, two brothers and a sister.

    The body will be sent by the Hahn Funeral Home to Clay City for funeral services and burial.
