    Charles Richard Henderson, the son of Wiley and Sarah Church Henderson, was born Feb. 7, 1876, in Wayne County, Illinois.

    He was united in marriage to Maggie ( Herdes ) Henderson, Dec. 2, 1903. To this union were born seven children, four of whom survive, two sons, Eugene and George Elmo of Clay City, and two daughters, Mae Dobbs of Cisne, and Blanche Staley of Fairfield.

    He also leaves his wife, Maggie; one sister, Dora Trotter, Beardstown, Ill.; one brother, Francis M. Henderson of Clay City; 21 grandchildren and 26 great-granchildren.

    Wiley and Margaret were the parents of seven children, after Margaret's death Wiley married Sarah Elizabeth Church. Sarah Elizabeth Church was born in Meigs County Ohio on Feb.16, 1845 Sarah died Oct. 17, 1940 in Clay County Il.

    Wiley and Sarah were married in Johnsonville, Il. on February 26, 1868 . Wiley was born in La Salle County, Il. on Mar.3 , 1828, Wiley died Nov. 11, 1879 in Pittman, Il. Wiley and Sarah were the parents of five children.

    During the Civil War, Wiley served in the Union Army, he was a Private in the 61st Illinois Infantry Co. K .

    Notes:

    James Monroe Herdes (Roe),only son of Joseph Herdes, married at age nineteen to Sarah D. Snyder. They were married in Clay City on February 15, 1883 and also lived on a farm northeast of Clay City.

    Sarah, who was ten years Roe's senior, had been married previously to Seth Evans and had one child, Johnny Evans, who was remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews.

    Roe and Sarah had eight children, five of whom lived until adulthood.

    The three sons, Claude, Charles (Chart), and James all lived out their lives as farmers in the Lathrop Chapel neighborhood near Smith Cemetery northeast of Clay City.

    The Herdes legacy now continues more widespread through the progeny of Claude, Chart and Jim Herdes.
