    Hugh A. Bateman, 96, of Flat Lick, KY, formerly of Olney, passed away on July 23, 2019 in Flat Lick, KY.

    Hugh was born on August 8, 1922 in Louisville, IL.

    He married Dorothy Bateman on September 26, 1941 and she preceded him in death on August 17, 1998.

    A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Cemetery.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as an Apprentice Seaman in the Seabees on February 19, 1945. Completed boot camp and Machinist's Mate Training at the U.S. Naval Construction Training Center, Davisville, Rhode Island. Served in turn with the 56th, 76th and 23rd Naval Construction Battalions including overseas duty in The Pacific Theater of Operations. Earned The American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and The WWII Victory Medal. Honorable discharged as a Machinist's Mate First Class on March 17, 1946 at The Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.

    Dorothy M. Bateman, 74, of Bridgeport, died at 7:43 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, near Claremont. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

    Bateman was born June 17, 1924, in Evanston, the daughter Thomas and Anna (Kadillac) Stejskal. She married Hugh A. Bateman on Sept 26, 1941.

    She is survived by her husband, of Bridgeport; three daughters, Lee Bateman of Lawrenceville, Diane Cisco, of Tulsa, Jean Dickson, of Poplar Grove; one son, Skeet Bateman, of Johnsburg; two sisters, Barbara Stanberry, of Ingleside, and Mildred Geimer of Martin Grove; one brother, Thomas, of Niles; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
