    John K. Duff, 85, of Clay City, IL died at 5:40 AM, Monday, February 4, 2008 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois.

    He was born on May 30, 1922 to John & Noma (Mosser) Duff in Olney, IL. He married Betty Jo Acklin on April 10, 1946 in Santa Barbara, CA. She preceded him in February of 2003.

    John ran CD & JW Duff Feed & Grain for several years. He was also a past member of the Clay City School Board and served on the Clay City Village Board. John was a veteran of WWII. He was an active member of the Clay City American Legion and a longtime, dedicated member of the Clay City Volunteer Fire Department.

    John is survived by a son: John W. Duff & Pamela Sue King of Clay City; 2 daughters: Jo Ellen Starret & husband Charles of Scottsville, KY, Martha Shomaker & husband Ronnie of McKenzie, TN; Grandchildren: Joshua Starrett & Mechelle Knight of Bowling Green, KY, Jayma Jo Shomaker of McKenzie TN, RC Shomaker & wife Jill of McKenzie, TN, Mason Duff of Clay City, IL; Great grandchildren: William Jackson Starrett of Bowling Green, KY, Kimberlee Shomaker of McKenzie, TN, Steven Shomaker of McKenzie, TN; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters.

    Services will be held at 3:00PM, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-3PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clay City High School Baseball Team of the Clay City Volunteer Fire Department, and may be received at the funeral home.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on February 23, 1943 at Chicago, Illinois. Selected for the Ordnance Corps, completed basic training and eventually qualified in the military specialty of Squad Leader (529). Departed the U.S. on February 11, 1945 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 424th Ordnance Evacuation Company in Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Sergeant on April 2, 1946 at the Separation Center, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
