From the Revolutionary War pension application # S41408, we know that William Allgood enlisted in Virginia, the place not shown, on 11 November 1776, for three years in Capt.Isaac Hicks' Company, Col. Screveb's Georgia Regiment; his service extended through September 1, 1781. He was allowed a pension of $8.00 per month on application executed on February 13,1828, at which time he was 67 years old and a resident of Surry Co., N. C. In 1828, his wife and four daughters were living with him; their names are not given and no other family information is found in the papers on this claim. On 23 September 1933 the Old North State Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Winston Salem, North Carolina place a large stone and marker at the grave site of William at the Allgood Cemetery on Old Stage Coach Road in Yadkin County. (State road 1733) [Notes from Del Huggins]

    Military Service:
William Henry "Pikey" Allgood was a veteran of the Revolutionary war. He enlisted in Virginia on November 11, 1776 to serve three years in the Georgia Co. commanded by Capt. Isaac Hicks in the regiment commanded by Col. Scriven.

Marching to Savannah, he was put under the command of Capt. Clem Nash and then later was captured at the surrender of Sunbury, while serving under Maj. Lane. He was held prisoner on a British ship at Savannah for over nine months making his escape while the city was being besiedged in the early fall of 1779 by Count D'Estaing and General Lincoln. He found his regiment broken up but rejoined the army, taking part in the retreat to Charleston. There he was discharged, presumably by General McIntosh. He later served his country again in the Virginia Co. of Capt. Michael Rudolph in the Legion of Lee for 18 months until being discharged at Salisbury. During this time he took part in numerous military engagements, the last two being at Ninety-Six and Eutaw Springs, where General Greene was "Victorious".

For his Revolutionary war service, he was awarded 840 acres of land in Surry County North Carolina.

    Buried:
... I don't have it in my notes yet, but have been informed by someone who went to William Henry Allgood's gravesite that the stone is not placed on his grave, but across the road in the newer non-overgrown area.
