    Mr. Sunday was born in Clay County. His Feb 26, 1909, son of Wilbur and Maggie (Burgin) Sunday. He married Bernice Wiltsey in Louisville on July 3, 1932.

    Surviving Mr. Sunday is his wife, a son, Loren, Henderson, KY, three daughters, Linda Yates, Rochester, NY, Lois Gidcumb, Bowling Brook, and Anita Lake, Clay City, two brothers, Joseph Sunday, Clay City, and Bill Sunday, Fairfield, CA, a sister, Beatrice Cooper, Riverside, CA, and 10 grandchildren.

    He was proceded in death by his parents.

    Mr. Sunday owned a Clay City restaurant and was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on January 4, 1944 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Selected for Infantry replacement training, completed basic training, and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Rifleman (MOS 745). Departed the Continental U.S. on July 26, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and fought with Company C, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th "Alamo" Infantry Division in the Normandy and Northern France Campaigns. Seriously wounded in actiotion on November 8, 1944 in vicinity of Metz, France. Removed from the battlefield for in-theater treatment and returned to the U.S. for further treatment and rehabilitation on February 16, 1945. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class witth a Certificate of Disability on September 21, 1945 at Percy Jones Hospital Center, Fort Custer, Michigan. Earned the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with 2 bronze battle stars, and the WWII Victory Medal.

    Bernice Sunday, 91, of Clay City, died at 5:40 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

    There will be no visitation. Graveside will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clay City Cemetery with Doyle Williams officiating. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Sunday was born on April 21, 1911, in Clay City, the daughter of Loren James and Myrtle (Harrison) Wiltsey. She married Oris Sunday on July 3, 1932, in Clay City. He preceded her in death in 1980.

    She was owner-operator of Sunday's Ice Cream Parlor in Clay City from 1950 to 1972. She was a member of Clay City United Methodist Church and Clay City Garden Club.

    Mrs. Sunday is survived by a son, Loren Sunday and his wife, Mary, of Henderson, Ky.; three daughters, Linda Yeates and her husband, Mark, of Sarasota, Fla., Lois Gidcumb and her husband, John, of San Antonio, Texas, and Anita Lake and her husband, Calvin, of Clay City; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Harold Wiltsey.

    Buried:
    There will be no visitation. Graveside will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clay City Cemetery with Doyle Williams officiating. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City is in charge of arrangements.
