He grew to manhood on the old homestead on which he was born. He was baptized in his infancy in the German Lutheran church. He was perfectly satisfied with his baptism and left all such matters as that for his parents to decided as he was a greaat lover of his parents; and he being a favorite with them. He was loyal to his ideals and was a lover of good sermons and was always willing to do his part in keeping up the church. There were few that excelled him in hospitality as he was a man that liked company and if you had been acquainted with him you would have had to admit the fact. No one ever came to his house at meal time and went away hungry, as all were perfectly welcome to a place at his table. He always had a good and cheerful word for all his friends, He was a good neighbor, a kind husband and a loving father.
