    William A. “Corky” Schnepper, 68, of rural Rinard, died at 9:35 a.m., Monday, February 2, 2015 at his home.

    Corky was a retired truck driver, former owner of “Corky’s Bar” in Clay City, and had also worked in the oil fields. He served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Centralia Area Fold-Em Club. He was also an avid golfer, poker player, die-hard Cubs fan and classic car enthusiast.

    Corky was born November 23, 1946 in Sailor Springs, the son of Francis (Sam) and Billie Jean (Michels) Schnepper.

    He is survived by his wife: Roberta (Lamb) Schnepper; two daughters and son-in-law: Kristin and Joey Hale and Ericka Lamb and fiancé Phillip Spicer; brother and sister-in-law: Michael and Jodi Schnepper; two sisters and brother-in-law: Jeanie Hall and Mary Jo and Larry Patridge; five grandchildren: Nicole Wells, Jesse Miller, Jerron Thilker, Destiny Lamb and Brittny Spicer; along with several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Beverly, baby daughter: Sondra, and ex-wife: Vickie.

    A funeral service for Corky Schnepper was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Harris officiating.

    Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, where military honors were presented.

    Memorial donations to Clay County Animal Rescue Shelter (CCARS).

    Entered active service as a draftee on February 3, 1942 at Scott Field, Illinois. Selected for the Quartermaster Corps, completed basic training, and eventually qualified in the military occupational specialty of Warehouse Foreman (MOS 252). Departed the continental U.S. on October 5, 1942 bound for the Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 493rd Quartermaster Depot Company and participated in the Northern Solomons campaign. Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 1, 1945 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and the WWII Victory Medal.

    Billie Jean Schnepper, 85, of Flora and formerly of Clay City, died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, Flora Healthcare Center in Flora.

    Mrs. Schnepper was born on September 2, 1924, in Noble, the daughter of Eugene and Cordell (Patterson) Michels. She married Francis "Sam" Schnepper on October 8, 1947. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1971.

    She owned and operated Billie's Café in Clay City for more than 32 years. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Sailor Springs.

    Mrs. Schnepper is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Patridge and her husband, Larry, of Clay City; daughter, Jeanie Hall, of Clay City; son, William "Corky" Schnepper and his wife, Roberta, of Rinard; son, Michael E. Schnepper and his wife, Jodi, of Noble; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Francis "Sam" Schnepper, one brother and one sister.

    Services were at Clay City United Methodist Church in Clay City with Rev. Brad Harris and Dick Sharp officiating.

    Burial was Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.

    Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City was in charge of arrangements.


    Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
