    NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
    One of her Virginia Dempsey cousins had married a Welsh immigrant, a Mr Jenkins, and bore a son Dempsey Jenkins. A cousin of his had married a Miss Coleman and sired a son Coleman Jenkins. In the early 1800s the Colemans, Jenkins and Dempseys moved west to Kentucky, where cousins of the Jenkins had already settled. When grown Sarah married John Jenkins, one of the original Kentucky settlers, who had fought alongside Coleman Jenkins in the war against the British 1812-1815.

    NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
    John Dempsey emmigrated with his wife Sarah and children, including a daughter Sarah aged two, in 1787 to Virginia [now part of the fledgling United States]. He already had cousins there, who had emmigrated before the American War of Independence 1775-1783. They helped set him up in Spottsylvania County with a farm and eight slaves. However, he died of disease in 1791, leaving young Sarah fatherless.
