    Notes:

    Burton E. Butler, son of George and Beulah Butler, deceased was born in German township, near Olney, November 26, 1877, and after a three day illness passed away May 16, 1935, aged 57 years, 5 months and 20 days. Mr. Butler had lived in Olney for the past eleven years. He was married to Glenn Bauman, of Bonpas, March 17, 1900. To this union three children were born. He professed faith in Jesus Christ over thirty years ago and with his wife united with the Asbury M.E. church. He leaves to mourn his great loss two daughters, Mrs. June Nease, of Claremont, and Mrs. Jean Fatheree of Olney; one son Trall George Butler, of the U.S. Navy; seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Bertha Frost, of Olney; one niece, Mrs. Maretta N. Baldwin, of St. Louis; one uncle, Warren Musgrove of Cimarron, Kan.; one aunt, Philena Essenger, of Grant, New Mexico, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was liked by all who knew him and the many beautiful floral offerings were tokens of that friendship. Funeral services were held at the West Main Street Christian church by Rev. A.O. Jacobs. He was laid to rest by his father and mother in Haven Hill cemetery.

    Military Service:
    In 1861 more Richland county boys were eager to enter the war than were units for them and a number were accomodated in a provisional regiment called the Eleventh Missouri. George Butler became a member of this regiment. He was at New Madrid, Shilo, Iuka, Corinth, Ft. Gibson and the seige of Vicksburg. During this seige he was struck in the side with a shell and four of his ribs broken. Rejoining his command he took part in the battle of Jackson, Nashville, and Ft. Blakley. He was dischared at St. Louis in January 1866. Mr. Butler returned to his farm March 2, 1869 and was married to Miss Beulah Burnell.

    Died:
    George Butler, native of German township and soldier of the Civil War, died last night at his home near Asbury church. Mr. Butler had been in feeble health for several years and for more than a year an invalid.

    Notes:

    She professed faith in Jesus Christ over 50 years ago and united with the Asbury M.E. Church, where she kept her membership until death, althought since moving to Olney nine years ago she attended the West Main Christian church occasionally, as it has been her preference in later years. She fell and broke her hip six weeks ago, then developed pneumonia. One month ago, her only brother, Quintes Burnell preceded her in death.

    Samuel Butler, came to Richland county in 1841 where he entered the farm where George Butler spent his life. The family of Samuel Butler consisted of eleven sons and daughters. All of the six brothers serviced in the Civil War. One brother of George Butler was John Butler. He was killed in the battle of Gettysburg.
