    Hilleary died at the age of 50, while possible that he died of natural causes, it is also possible that he died as a result of Queen Anne's War 1702-13

    NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
    Emmigrated at the age of two to Massachusettes and grew up on six acres at Buck Roe. In 1653 he was commissioned an officer in the militia, and the 1654 helped lead an expodition through several hundred miles of mountains and forests to Arcadia, where they attacked villiages of the Abenaki and French towns. Once defeated they had a long retreat ahead of them.

    In 1675 the Massachusettes settlements were suddenly attacked by Wampanoags, Nipmucks, and Naragansettes. Richard fought in this war during which several towns were completely wiped out by the indians. One of those killed was John Ball (Richards cousin) & his wife Elizebeth. It took Four years to defeat the hostiles, making it one of the bloodiest of the indian wars.

    NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
    Moved to London as a young man and in 1627 immigrated to Massachusettes.
    In 1636 he fought in the militia against the Naragansettes, Schaghticokes and Mohicans. At this time the militia were equipped metal helmets and breastplates and were armed with sword and pike. Few had muskets and as they took 60 sec. to load they were effective against indians in any case.

    As a boy in 1588 he would have witnessed the lighting of the hilltop beacons to warn of the Spanish invasion of England. This armada was defeated by the English navy led by Sir Francis Drake.
