NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
Married at 19 she bore at least 9 children, raised them and kept a farm on the edge of the frontier 7 yrs of which was under attack by the Cherokee, She died aged 88 obviously a very resilent lady.

Mary married Gibbs, Johann Nickel in 1764 in Orange County, North Carolina. Johann (son of Gibbs, John Nickel) was born in 1733 in Wallruth, Baden, Germany; died in 1817 in Knox County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

It is probable that Peter was a regulator(see Henry H Sharp). Tho 57 yrs old when in war of Independence began he would have been involved in fighting off Cherokee raids for the next 7 yrs. while younger men were away in the Militia.
