Notes:

Carl E. Brewer, 53, of Olney, died at 4:27 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 1992 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Zirkle Funeral Home, with Rev. Ron Cooley and Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Brewer was born June 4, 1938 in Olney Township, the son of Russell and Thelma (Smith) Brewer. He married Judy Garretson Oct. 16, 1960.

Mr. Brewer retired in December, 1991 due to poor health. He was a cable splicer for GTE at the time of his retirement, having been employed for 25 years. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was a member of Richland Post #30 American Legion, Richland County Pork Producers and Illinois Corridale Association.

Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, Judy Brewer of Olney; three sons, Charles "Chuck" Brewer of Olney, John R. Brewer stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., Russell "Rusty" Brewer, at home; two daughters, Catherine "Cathy" Steber of Olney and Christina "Tina Jo' Brewer of Sumner; mother, Thelma Brewer of Olney; two sisters, Nancy Felice of Olney and Sandra Gammage of Farmer City; mother-in-law, Catherine Garretson of Hollister, Mo.; four grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews.

Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his father, Russell Brewer, and an infant brother, Monte Ray Brewer.

Russell V. Brewer, 54, a lifelong resident of Southeast Olney township, was found dead at the family residence yesterday evening.

The Sheriff and Coroner's office investigated. Coroner Bob Schaub said that the death was apparently the result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Born in Richland County, Mr. Brewer was the son of Lyman Brewer and Bessie F. Fiock Brewer.

He was an active member of the Ebenezer community and a long time member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church.
Mr. Brewer formerly operated a feed store on South Whittle Avenue.

He was married to Thelma Mae Smith on May 1, 1937.
She survives him.
Also surviving are a son and two daughters: Carl Brewer of Olney, Miss Nancy Brewer of Deerfield Park, Fla., and Mrs. Sandra Lange of Gibson City. There are three grandchildren, Chuck, Cathy and Tina Jo Brewer.
Other survivors are his father Lyman Brewer of Olney, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Lois Kimmel, Mrs. Catherine Campbell and Paul Brewer, all
of Olney.

Thelma (daughter of Smith, William Henry and Travis, Sylvia Carida) was born on 11 May 1917 in Streator, LaSalle County, Illinois; died on 18 Sep 2010 in Burgin Manor Nursing Home, Olney, Richland County, Illinois; was buried in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney, Richland County, Illinois.
