    Kenneth Harold Hostettler, age 89, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, at his home.

    He was born August 29, 1933, in Louisville, the son of Harold and Marguarite (O’Dell) Hostettler. He was united in marriage to Beulah Evelyn Hall on June 1, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Clay City and together they shared 64 years of marriage until her death May 20, 2019.

    Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy and traveled overseas. He was the owner and operator of Kenny’s Appliance Store in Clay City for over 20 years. He joined the Clay City Volunteer Fire Department in 1971, serving as the Department’s Chief for 16 years and serving as the District Chief for 25 years. Kenny and Evelyn had been longtime members of Zif Baptist Church. Kenny enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and bird watching. He retired from driving a school bus, and spent countless hours running the Clay City Civics Association which coordinated the summer youth program and the Fall Festival. He was an establishing member of the 911 board and served on the Clay County Housing Board. He will truly be remembered for his genuine service to others and love that he shared with his family.

    He is survived by 4 children: Tim (Kim) Hostettler of Clay City, Tracy Hostettler (Sheila Waller) of Clay City, Tony (Jan) Hostettler of Clay City, and Gwen Brown (Kevin Monical) of Flora; 9 grandchildren: Amanda Hostettler (Matthew Monical) of Clay City, Cassandra (Greg) Scott of Altamont, Travis (Felicia) Hostettler of Flora, Eric (Stephanie) Hostettler of Clay City, Chelsea Brown (Brandon Miller) of Bridgeport, Ethan Brown of Sailor Springs, Corrinna (Chris) Caudle of Flora, Skyler DeVore of Clay City, and Tyler (Gabby) Fuentes of Florida; 19 great-grandchildren plus one soon expected great-grandchild; siblings: Marilyn Cox of Flora, Joyce Stockwell of Wheeler, and Garry Hostettler of Ingraham; brother-in-law: Gene Hall of Clay City; sister-in-law: Charlene Hall of Flora; and several nieces and nephews.

    A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Kelly Carruthers officiating. Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors as well as service honors by the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois.     Beulah Evelyn Hostettler, age 82, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Monday morning, May 20, 2019, at the home of her son, Tony.

    She was born November 6, 1936, in Bridgeport, the daughter of William Elmer and Beulah Ellen (Keneipp) Hall. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Harold Hostettler on June 1, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Clay City and together they have shared 64 years of marriage.

    Evelyn embraced her family and grandchildren with a lifetime of love and care, and they brought her countless smiles and much happiness. She enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers and abundant vegetable garden, and she was often taking time to make progress on her crocheting, quilting, and sewing projects. She also welcomed the opportunity for a fishing outing or camping trip. Evelyn retired after over 50 years of service to The Clay City Banking Company as a bookkeeper and in other roles. She and Kenneth became members of Zif Baptist Church where she worked with the Missionary Group in the past, and they were formerly part of Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church. She assisted with the bookkeeping and activities of the Clay City Fire Department and volunteered her time to help many others throughout the years.

    She is survived by her husband: Kenneth Hostettler of Clay City; four children: Tim (Kim) Hostettler of Clay City, Tracy Hostettler (Sheila Waller) of Clay City, Tony (Jan) Hostettler of Clay City, and Gwen Brown of Flora; nine grandchildren: Amanda Hostettler (Matthew Monical) of Clay City, Cassandra (Greg) Scott of Altamont, Travis (Felicia) Hostettler of Flora, Eric (Stephanie) Hostettler of Clay City, Chelsea Brown (Brandon Miller) of Bridgeport, Ethan Brown of Sailor Springs, Corrinna (Blake) Eaker of Salem, Skyler DeVore of Clay City, and Tyler (Gabby) Fuentes of Vincennes, Indiana; 18 great-grandchildren plus one soon expected great-grandson; a brother: Gene Hall of Clay City; and extended family including in-laws and nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Kenneth Wayne Hostettler; a grandson: Steven Hostettler; a great-grandson: Kamden Blanchard; a brother: Phillip “Fish” Hall; and a sister-in-law: Mary Ruth Hall.

    A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Kelly Carruthers officiating. Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

    Elmer Hall, 79, Clay City, died 7:48 p.m. Monday in his home.

    Services will be 1:30 p.m. in the Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City with Rev. Jack Martin presiding. Visitation will be followed by Masonic Services.

    Mr. Hall was born July 5, 1903, in Huntington County, lnd., the son of William and Alice (Woodruff) Hall. He married Beulah Keneipp July 29, 1924 in Hartford City, lnd., and she survives.

    He was a retired pumper for Pure Oil Co.; a member of Clay City United Methodist Church; a member of AF & AM Lodge 488 in Clay City and the Magnolia Chapter of Eastern Star.

    Other survivors include two sons, Eugene and Phillip, both of Clay City: a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Evelyn) Hostettler, Clay City; three brothers, Clayton, Carmdenton, Mo.; Roland, Dunedin, Fla.; Bob, Arcades, Ca.; four sisters,,Mrs. Effie Weedon, Trenton, Mich.; Mrs. Ruth Nance, New Boston, Mich.; Mrs. Lucille Avran, Alger, Mich.; and Mrs. Joan VanSchoick, Stergis, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and a grandchild.
