    Beatrice Cailteux, age 88, of Clay City, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

    Beatrice was born on August 18, 1925 in Wayne County to Virgil and Mary Katherine (Fout) Wilkin. She married Davie Cailteux on March 15, 1950. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2002.

    Beatrice was known to all her family and others as "Peach". She helped on the family farm and enjoyed gardening, flowers, and taking drives with Davie.

    She is survived by her daughters: Barbara (Donnie) Sneed, Brenda Cailteux, Donna Russell and friend Bob Plew, Dorothy (Mike) Wilson; a son: Dale Cailteux; six grandchildren: Vanessa Sneed, Leslie Sneed, Keith (Rachel), Nathan Wilson, Courtney Cailteux and Shelby Cailteux; along with several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister (Mary Ann Baughman), a brother (Jim Wilkin), and a granddaughter (Lexi Cailteux).

    A graveside service for Beatrice Cailteux was held at Clay City Cemetery, Clay City.

    Visitation was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

    BARBARA ANN ZIMMERMAN, 77, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019, at the home of her daughter.

    Barbara was born November 14, 1942, at Olney, Illinois, to Frank and June (Weidner) Walker. She married Galen Max Zimmerman July 10, 1964, at Flora, Illinois. She was a housewife and a member of Zif Baptist Church.

    Barbara is survived by her husband Max of Clay City, Illinois; two daughters Amber (Will) Frohning of Flora, Illinois and Lisa Zimmerman of Clay City, Illinois; one son John Zimmerman of Flora; three sisters Nancy (Tom) Denney of Effingham, Illinois, Frances (Jerry) Quick of Neoga, Illinois and Joanne Hilderbrand-Rogers of Flora and one brother Dennis Hilderbrand of Wynoose, Illinois. Four grandchildren Courtney Gray and Shelby Cailteux of Clay City and Kennedy and Khloe Zimmerman of Flora, Illinois; two great grandchildren Carter and Corbin Gray of Clay City Illinois also survive.

    Preceding Barbara in death were her parents, one brother Jack Walker, and one grandchild Lexi Cailteux.

    A graveside service will be at 12:00 pm Monday, December 30, 2019, at Dillman Cemetery.at Sailor Springs, Illinois. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation.

    Memorials may be given to Clay County Hospice and will be accepted at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home.

    Bonnie Cailteux, 83, Clay City, died Thursday at 5:35 p.m. at the Flora Care Center.

    She was born in Clay City Aug. 19, 1894 to William and Stella Romine Franklin. She married Frank Cailteux in Clay City in 1918. He died June 3, 1966.

    Mrs. Cailteux is survived by sons, William and Davie, Clay City; and a sister, Pearl Monical, Clay City; and five grandchildren.

    She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son. Services will be at the Cardascio Funeral Home with visitation. Burial will be in the Clay City Cemetery.

    Wayne County Record, Apr 14, 1927, obit: On last Friday afernoon a terrible accident occurred in Zif Township whereby Mrs Catherine Wilkin was so badly burned that she died in about twelve hours after she had received the injury. Mrs Wilkin and her husband, Virgil, had been to a hatchery and returned home with a lot of little chickens and as the weather was somewhat cold for them, a fire was built in the kitchen stove and the little chicks were placed behind the stove. Mr Wilkin left the home to go to a neightborhood store and the children of the family were playing around in the yard with a neighbor child. In working around the stove the dress of Mrs Wilkin got against the stove which had become red hot and her clothing was soon a mass of flames. The children heard Mrs Wilkin scream and the little neighbor girl ran to her home and told her mother and a passing neightbor and they rushed to thehome and found Mrs Wilkin with her clothing entirely burned off andt he body was a mass of blacken flesh. Katie Fout, daughter of W H and Susan Fout was born in Mt Erie Township, Wayne County, IL on Sep 25, 1901 and departed this life Apr 9, 1927 at her home in Zif Township, Wayne County, IL, age 25 yr, 6 mo and 15 da. She has lived in this community all her life. On her nineteenth birthday, Sep 25, 1920, she was united in marriage to Virgil Wilkin to this union were born three children, Mary Ann, Glen and Beatrice.

    June Ogden, 63, Springfield and formerly of Clay City, died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, in St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

    Services will be conducted Friday at the Clay City Chapel of Hosselton-Brookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dillman Cemetery at Sailor Springs.

    Mrs. Ogden was born June 12, 1921, in Clay County, the daughter of Joseph and Bena (Schnautz) Weidner. She married Clyde Ogden and he survives. She was a restaurant owner.

    Other survivors include two sons, Jack Walker of New Philadelphia, Ohio; Dennis Hilderbrand of Wynoose; four daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Frances) Quick and Mrs. Tom (Nancy) Denney, both of Neoga; Mrs. Max (Barbara) Zimmerman and Mrs. Allen (JoAnn) Wells, both of Clay City; three brothers, Fletcher Weidner of Jonesville, Mich.; Milton Weidner of Clay City; and Dan Weidner of Olney; four sisters, Mrs. Audrey Barkley of Salem; Mrs. Lois Rosenbieb of Casper, Wy; Mrs. Bonita Stanley of Olney; Mrs. Rae Gill of Mt. Vernon; and 10 grandchildren.
