Notes:

Edward grew to manhood in Clay County, and on the 6th of August, 1862, he enlisted in Company A. of the Ninety -eighth Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and served until mustered out at the close of the war in 1865. He participated in several general engagements, including Hoover's Gap, Chickamauga and the lighting incident to the Atlanta campaign.
