    Notes:

    Rena M. Thomas, age 81, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday morning, August 16, 2021, at her home.

    She was born July 25, 1940, in Clay County, the daughter of Earl A. and Geneva Dell (Wease) Lents. In 1962, she married Don L. Thomas during a wedding ceremony in Shawneetown.

    Rena was a member of the Clay City High School Class of 1958. She was a founding employee of WNOI Radio, serving as News Director, and operated Able Cleaning Service. She will be most recently remembered for her work as resident columnist at the Hometown Journal and Clay County Republican Newspapers where she took readers on a journey of captivating historical and genealogical subjects by way of her weekly feature titled “Piecing Together The Past.” Rena was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, The Clay County Genealogical Society, and the Sew Nifty Quilting Guild.

    Rena is survived by her husband: Don Thomas of Flora; 2 sons: Tony (Sherri) Thomas of Robinson and Troy (Sandy) Thomas of Flora; 2 grandsons: Zach (Jessica) Thomas and Brenden (Summer) Thomas; 1 great-grandson: Sean Weatherspoon; 1 great-granddaughter: Adalynn Thomas; 5 sisters: Karen (Phillip) Marlow, Carol (Ron) Raley, Donna Given, Cheryl Hampton, and Terry Lentz; 1 brother: Rick (Tina) Lents; and a brother-in-law: Bob Monical.

    She was preceded in death by her parents: Earl & Geneva Lents; her stepfather: John Lents; 1 brother: Dale E. Lents; and 1 sister: Noma Monical.

    A funeral ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Mark Luzadder officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers or any gifts, the family prefers that memorial donations please be given to either Bethlehem Christian Church, Clay County Cancer Crusaders, or Clay County Hospice, and any of these will be accepted through the funeral home.     Emory E. Thomas, 88, Flora, died at 9:58 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at Flora Pavilion Nursing Home Center.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Rev. Neal Kenley officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Xenia. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

    Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.

    Thomas was born Mar. 15, 1909, in Clay County, the son of Adelbert and Leona (Neece) Thomas. He married Elizabeth Muriel Thompson in 1933 in Wayne County. She preceded him in death in 1974. He then married Gennelle Bissey Davis in 1975, in Paducah, Ky. She preceded him in death in 1993.

    He was a farmer and affiliated with the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and Clay County H.I.A. Board of Directors. He played music at Bible Grove Opry, Xenia Opry and Sailor Springs Opry, taught a Sunday School class at a Methodist Church in Xenia and Elm Street Christian Church in Olney for a number of years, and served as road commissioner in Songer Township for 18 years.

    He is survived by one son, Don Thomas and his wife, Rena, of Flora; three sisters, Ruth Henderson, of Clay City, Elbert Farmer and his wife, Lucille, of Cisne, and Beulah Smith, of Clay City; one brother, Rev. Merle Thomas, of Paducah, Ky.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, second wife, a son, a granddaughter, a brother and a sister.

    Geneva Dell Lents, 91, of Clay City, IL died at 8:20 AM Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.

    She was born April 5, 1919 in Clay City, IL to Oscar & Della (Yauch) Wease. She married Earl A. Lents on November 21, 1936 in Clay County, IL. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1957. She later married John Lents who preceded her in death in 2002.

    She was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. Geneva enjoyed sewing and making dolls for her grandchildren.

    She is survived by her children: Karen Marlow & husband Phillip of Dix, Carol Raley & husband Ronald of Rinard, Rena Thomas & husband Don of Flora, Donna Given of Mauldin, SC, Noma Monical & husband Robert of Flora, Cheryl Hampton & husband Bill of Flora, Terry Lentz & husband Geoffrey of Houston, TX, and Richard Lents & wife Tina of Bridgeport; 31 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a son (Dale Eugene Lents), 4 sisters, and 1 brother.

    Private funeral services will be held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with burial in Clay City Cemetery, Clay City, IL.

    Notes:

    Edna lived her entire life within one square mile, but her impact was felt by many. Edna was a member of Zif Baptist Church. Family was everything to Edna and although we miss her dearly, she leaves us with many happy memories to cherish.
