Harold L. "Smokey" Padgett, 84, of Noble passed away on October 11, 2014 in Olney, IL.

Smokey was born July 27, 1930 in Wayne County, IL, the son of Victor and Beatrice (Thomas) Padgett.

He married Janet Prosser on December 29, 1982 in Noble.

Smokey enjoyed camping, fishing, and bluegrass music. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. In his younger years he was a stock car driver at the White Squirrel Speedway in Olney. Smokey was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a Lifetime Member of the VFW. He was a member of North Freedom Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Padgett of Noble; daughters, Debra Hoffner and husband John of West Salem, IL, Penny Runyon and husband Mike of Pace, FL, Rebecca Bell and husband Jim of Sumner, IL, and Rita McCormack and husband Todd of Noble; sons, Leslie Padgett of Noble and Kevin Weiss and wife Beth of Noble; sisters, Joyce Murphy and husband Schuylar of Roosevelt, UT and Bonnie Long and husband Bob of Olney; brother, Jerry Padgett and wife Nancy of Claremont, IL; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Buddy, and sister, Wanda Tomason.

Harold married Houchin, Billie Jean on 29 Dec 1982. Billie (daughter of Houchin, L.E. and Bullard, Emma B.) was born on 20 Jan 1934 in Olney, Richland County, Illinois; died on 18 Jun 1988 in Olney, Richland County, Illinois; was buried in Maple Dale Cemetery, Olney, Richland County, Illinois. Billy Jean 'Houchin' Padgett, 54, 201 N. Ohio street, Olney, died at 1:pm Saturday June 18, 1988 at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 11 am Thursday at Summers Funeral Home, the Rev. Michael Runyon officiating. Burial in Maple Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Padgett was born on January 20, 1934, in Olney, daughter of Leslie E. and Emma B. Houchin. She was a Homemaker.Mrs. Padgett survived by two sons, Leslie V. Padgett and Harold 'Buddy' Padgett Jr,both of Olney, three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Debra) Drews of Noble, Mrs. Michael ( Penny ) Runyon of Cornelius, Oregon, and Mrs. Michael (Rebecca) Wilson of Olney, four step-brothers, Richard Peters, St. Petersburg, VA, Allen Peters of Maryville, IN, Earl Peters of Valparaiso, IN and Joe Peters, her mother Emma B. Houchin, of Olney, seven grandchildren and one step-grandchild. Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by her father and step-father.

Notes:

Emma B. (Bullard) Houchin Peters, of Olney, died Friday, March 4, 2005 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was 90.

Mrs. Peters was born on September 25, 1914, in Richland County, the daughter of Harrison E. and Lena (Lewis) Bullard.

She married Leslie E. Houchin on January 20, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1974.

She later married Felix Peters. He preceded her in death in 1983.

She was retired and had worked at International Shoe Factory.

Survivors include a sister, Eva Hill, Petersburg, IN.; a grandson, Leslie Padgett, Olney; three granddaughters, Debra Britton, Albion, Becky Bell, Sumner, and Penny Runyon, Oregon; eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a daughter, Billie Jean Padgett, and a grandson, Harold 'Buddy' Padgett.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney with Pastor Chris Jennette officiating.

Burial was in Maple Dale Cemetery in Olney.

Harrison's registration for the draft, both world wars, show is birth date as 1885. He has a twin brother, Amos Elza Bullard, also born June 29, 1885.

Etheridge (Curly) Bullard, age 67, passed away Tuesday evening in St. John's Hospital in Springfield, where he had been a patient for the past three years.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eva Hill of Wheatland, Ind. , and Mrs. Emma Houchin of Hammond,Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Tillie Nelson; two brothers, Carl Bullard of Hutchinson, Kan.; and Troy Bullard of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and six grandchildren. His wife, Lena, preceded him in death in 1920 and his twin brother Elza Bullard died in 1948.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Olney Funeral Home and burial will be in the Gardner cemetery.

Harrison married Lewis, Lena L.. Lena was born on 28 Mar 1894 in Jasper County, Illinois; died on 29 May 1916 in Olney, Richland County, Illinois; was buried in Maple Dale Cemetery, Olney, Richland County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
