Participated in the battle of Gilford Court House, Cowpens, Eutaw Springs and was present at the surrendar of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Wounded at the battle of Cowpens by a saber cuts across the head. Served with distinction and honor in the war of 1812. Moved from North Carolina to Illinois in 1830. Ann, wife of Nicholas died in 1839.
