    Walter E. "Buddy" Rogers Jr., 78, of Olney, died Friday, January 1, 2010, at his home with his family at his side.

    Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 700 N. Silver St., with the Rev. Jan Laws and the Rev. David McNabb officiating. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

    Mr. Rogers was born January 23, 1931, the only son of Walter E. Sr. and Geneva (Crum) Rogers. He graduated from Olney Township High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He was a lifetime resident of Olney.

    Being of the Christian faith, he was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. For many years he was a church elder and church treasurer.

    He served four consecutive terms as trustee for Olney Township and was a member of the American Legion for 56 years.

    Walter was married to Sharon K. Steele, who preceded him in death in 1981.

    On March 17, 1989, he married Beverly J. Campbell. She survives along with one son, Michael C. (Madeleine) Rogers and grandsons, Logan M. and William C., of Livingston, Mont. and one daughter, Jaime L. Rogers of Crestone, Colo.

    He will be sadly missed by seven stepdaughters: Kim (Dr. James) Ligon, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Lori (Walter) Myers, of Lenoir, N.C., Ann (Randy) Christopherson, of Green Bay, Wis., Erin Schnepper, of Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Lisa Schnepper (Scott Miller), of Winona, Minn., Amy Jo Johnson (Louis Kapp), of Gurnee, Cassie Schnepper, of Park City; and two stepsons: Daniel (Kimberly) Schnepper, of Hudson, Wis., and Darin (Colleen) Schnepper, of Lancaster, Wis.

    Dearly loved by all of his family, he was called Grandpa Buddy by Chris and Patti Christopherson, Tara and Cory Beaton, Tereasa and David Prince, Megan O'Malley, Luke Wenzel, Adam Wenzel, Matthew Wenzel, Patrick Johnson, Ian Johnson, Haley Schnepper, Wesley Schnepper, Bindi Schnepper, Gavin Schnepper, Dylan Schnepper, Darien Schnepper, and great-grandson, Paul Christopherson.

    He will also be missed by his extended family, Lee and Sheryll Mitchell, and all of the people with whom he worked for over 21 1/2 years at Pool's True-Value.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and sister, Elizabeth Ann.
