(Solomon and Elizabeth were likely cousins of some sort, although Solomon was born in White County, Tennessee and Elizabeth was born in Jefferson County, Illinois.)

In 1907, Luther married Irene A. Carney in Jefferson County, Illinois. Irene was the daughter of Joseph Carney and Louise Hoffmann. The marriage did not last. Later, Irene married Benjamin Thomas Thurston. She died in Saint Louis in 1950.

About 1917 Luther married Versa Elizabeth Nelson, probably in Clay City, Clay County, Illinois. They lost several children in infancy (Alberta May was only 3 months old when she died; Roy Harold was just barely over 3 years old; and there was also an unnamed infant boy that was stillborn in 1925). There were two living children in the 1930 census, a daughter, Dorothy, and a son, Ivan.

Sometime in the 1930s, Luther and Versa divorced. Luther next married a Vera (or Verna) Hatfield on 04 October 1936.

Luther was listed as a day laborer in the 1900 census in Jefferson County, before he married his first wife. By 1918 in Clay City (according to his WWI draft card), he worked as a trackman for the B&O Railroad Company. But by the 1920 census in Clay City, he was listed as a laborer again. By 1930, in Mount Vernon, he worked for a car manufacturing company doing "fitting up." When he died on 22 Nov 1937 at the age of 51, his occupation was listed as "riveter."

Luther was buried in Hopewell Cemetery in Mount Vernon on 23 Nov 1937.

She was converted when 18 years of age at Old Zion, and united with the Church at that place. Later she moved her membership to New Hope, where she remained a member till her death.
She had been afflicted for a long time, and at times her sufferings were almost more than she could bear, but she bore it patiently till the last, and has often been heard to say that she was ready to go when the Lord called.
She was a true faithful wife and a good mother, and nothing pleased her more than to know that her children were trying to serve the God she had served so long. She will be missed by those who knew her best.

    Notes:

Elizabeth was born 23 May 1875 in Noble, Richland County, Illinois, USA. She was the daughter of Thomas MAGLONE and Matilda HEATHER.

Elizabeth first married John H. NELSON in Richland County, Illinois on 23 March 1895. John was the son of Frank and Angeline Nelson. There were seven children from their union, but only three daughters survived to adulthood. Elizabeth and John lived in Illinois early in their marriage (probably in Richland and Clay Counties), then later moved to Indiana — the 1900 census found them in Owensville, Gibson County, Indiana, USA.

First born was Matilda "Tillie" Permelia Nelson (1895-1982), then Versa Elizabeth Nelson (1898-1956), Ralph Martin Nelson (1899-1900), Bertha Ann Nelson (1901-1902), and Addie May Nelson (b. about 1904). In 1906 a baby boy was born in Owensville, Indiana who lived for only 5 days. There was no name on the death certificate. Their last child was Nora Murl Nelson (1908-1909), who born in Arkansas but died in Owensville, Indiana.

Lizzie's husband John died in Montgomery Township, Gibson County, Indiana (near Owensville) on 12 March 1910. By the 1910 census, which was enumerated a month later on 15 April 1910, Elizabeth and her remaining three daughters were back in Sailor Springs, Clay County, Illinois, USA. Now the head of her household, Lizzie worked as a hotel laundress.

By 1920, when the census was taken, Elizabeth was still in Sailor Springs, living as a companion to another widow. Later that year, Elizabeth married her second husband, Harry Herbert SCHOTT. Harry was the son of Samuel Schott and Matilda Ann Taylor; he had been married several times (twice before Lizzie, and again after her death). Harry and Elizabeth moved to the Mount Vernon area in Jefferson County, Illinois, and remained there until Elizabeth's death on 28 Aug 1939. Elizabeth was buried in Bethel Memorial Cemetery on 30 Aug 1939. Harry remarried, and died nearly 7 years later on 16 Aug 1946; he was buried in a different cemetery in Mount Vernon.
