Notes: From the Revolutionary War pension application # S41408, we know that William Allgood enlisted in Virginia, the place not shown, on 11 November 1776, for three years in Capt.Isaac Hicks' Company, Col. Screveb's Georgia Regiment; his service extended through September 1, 1781. He was allowed a pension of $8.00 per month on application executed on February 13,1828, at which time he was 67 years old and a resident of Surry Co., N. C. In 1828, his wife and four daughters were living with him; their names are not given and no other family information is found in the papers on this claim. On 23 September 1933 the Old North State Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Winston Salem, North Carolina place a large stone and marker at the grave site of William at the Allgood Cemetery on Old Stage Coach Road in Yadkin County. Notes: Miss Sarah Royal (daughter of John Royal), was born about 1760 in Amelia County, Virginia, and she died after 1848 in Surry County, North Carolina. She was buried in The Henry Allgood Cemetery, Yadkin County, NC.

Notes: In 1778, he was drafted for service in the Revolutionary army, serving under Captain William Lucas. He was marched from Mecklenburg to Portsmouth, VA. Ten days later, the order was rescinded and he was discharged. Later in 1778, John Allgood was again drafted to go from Mecklenburg County to Portsmouth, under the command of Captain William Pinter. According to Allgood's later recollections, he was gone about fourteen or fifteen days. About 1 January 1781, he was drafted under the Virginia State Troops commanded by General Muhlenburg, Colonel Fleming, Major Ben Jones, Sergeant Richard Easter and Ensign John Bebel. Under this command, he marched through Brunswick and Surry counties to Cabin Point, where he guarded for two months. After that, he marched to Portsmouth, up the Nansemond River. On 5 April 1781, he became ill and was discharged. He returned to his plantation in Mecklenburg County. On 1 August 1781. he was again drafted, this time under Captain Killis Jeffries, Colonel Lewis Burwee and Colonel Walder. He marched to Petersburg. In October of 1781, he was discharged and returned home. John married ?, Mary Ann. Mary was born in 1725; died before 1845. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
