    Entered active service as a draftee on January 31, 1944 at Chicago, Illinois. Completed basic training, qualified in the Military Occupational Specialty Of Light Truck Driver (345) and assigned to Company A, 387th Infantry Regiment, 97th 'Trident' Infantry Division. Departed the U.S. with his unit on February 19, 1945 bound for The European Theater of Operations. Fought in The Rhineland Campaign. Redeployed with his unit to The Pacific Theater of Operations after the Japanese surrender and was based in Japan. Earned The Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and The Army Of Occupation Medal (Japan). Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on February 4, 1946 at The Separation Center, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
