    Notes from Mary Giera for MARGARETHA "MAGGY" SCHILT:

    "Maggy came to America with Schilt family and her husband in 1852. "Foot Prints" Vol. 10 #2 says she died on her way to America and was buried at sea. If this is correct, then she went back to Switzerland and was coming to America again as some of her children were born in Illinois. I also have her buried in Haven Hill Cem, but cannot find her listed in the inscriptions.

    Notes from Mary Giera for SR. JOHANNES "JOHN" SCHILT, SR.:

    "John immigrated to America in 1852, according to his Bible (in 2007 the Bible resided with Emmett F. Schilt of Denver, CO); lived in Grand Prairie, Richland County, IL; was committed to the Illinois State Hospital for the Insane in Jacksonvillee, IL July 15, 1868 (for religious rantings) at age 64 years, died there; people in Olney called him "Crazy" Schilt; lay minister. The German Reformed Church at Olney was established and erected by a few families, about ten in number, and mostly all of Swiss emigration. At a meeting on the 24th of June, 1860, the congregation organized itself, and the following members were elected as trustees to manage and facilitate the building of the present church: John Von Gruten, Christian Bohren, J.J.Fuetz, John Schilt, and Jacob Miller. In 1860 census he was a distiller at a brewery in Olney, IL.
