    Shelby James Hartleroad, 77, of Clay City, formerly of Noble, died at 5:02 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2003, at his residence.

    Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Noble. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Brother Jim Thomas officiating.

    Burial with full military rites will be in Hanna Cemetery in rural Noble.

    Mr. Hartleroad was born on May 25, 1926, in Jasper County, the son of James and Zennie (Thacker) Hartleroad. He married Gladys Smith on July 3, 1948. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1999.

    He was an oil-field truck driver and a member of Glenwood Church.

    Mr. Hartleroad is survived by a son, Danny Hartleroad and his wife, Barbara, of Noble; a grandson, Scott Hartleroad and his wife, LeAnn, of Olney; a granddaughter, Joy Keys and her husband, Andy, of Olney; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Hannah Hartleroad and James Brewer; and two sisters, Charlene Woods, of Newton, and Marjorie Hardin, of Belleville.

    He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

    Albert George Abbott, 60, died Monday, July 13, 1987, at his home in Clay City.

    Services will be held at the Forrest Ridge Chruch with Rev. Havard Dasch presiding. Burial will be in Forrest Ridge Cemetery.

    Mr. Abbott was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Richland County, the son of Emery Raymond and Ethel (Rodgers) Abbott. He married Clara Hille on Aug. 1, 1953, in Olney.

    He was a self-employed water well driller and a Korean War U. S. Army veteran. He was a member of Forrest Ridge Church and VFW.

    Survivors include his wife, Clara; three daughters, Mrs. Danny (Barbara) Hartleroad of Noble, Mrs. Danny (Ethel) Welty of Clay City and Mrs. Douglas (Violet) Brinkley of Waukomis, OK; two brothers, Lloyd Aabbott of Clay City and William Abbott of Elgin; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ruth) Calteux and Mrs. Ralph (Katie) Brown, both of Clay City; six grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on August 3, 1945 at Chicago, Illinois. Selected for the Field Artillery, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Guard Patrolman (522). Departed the U.S. on February 5, 1946 bound for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 49th Field Artillery Battalion engaged in the occupation of the Japanese homelands. Earned the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Of Occupation Medal (Japan). Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on January 30, 1947 at the Separation Center, Camp Beale, California.

    Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 1999 in the Chapel of Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney with Brother Gene EVERETT officiating. Burial was in Hanna Cemetery, rural Noble.

    Mrs. MURRY was born May 4, 1912 in Richland County, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (YAUCH) PAYNE. She married Elmer SMITH. He preceded her in death. She later married Herbert MURRY, who also preceded her in death.

    Mrs. MURRY was a retired aide at Marks Manor in Olney. She attended Glenwood Church in Noble.

    Survivors include one sister, Betty SHARP of Flora; one son-in-law Shelby HARTLEROAD of Clay City; 4 grandchildren including Danny HARTLEROAD and wife Barbara of Noble; 9 great-grandchildren, including Scott HARTLEROAD and wife Leann of Noble and Joy BREWER of Olney; and 1 great-great-grandson.

    Mrs. MURRY was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, 1 daughter-Gladys HARTLEROAD and 1 son Virgil.

    Raymond ‘Bob’ Abbott, 66. of Clay City, passed away at the Richland Memorial Hospital. Mr. Abbott had been a patient in the Burgin Nursing Homes in Olney for the past nine years.

    Funeral services will be held in the Easley - Padgett Funeral Home
    with Rev. Barney Meadows in charge. Burial will be at Clay City cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

    Mr. Abbott was born near Noble, son of the late George and Laura Taylor Abbott. He had moved to Clay City as a young man and engaged in teaming. Before his illness and retirement, he had been employed as a teamster by the Pure Oil Co.

    He was preceded in death by his wife.

    He is survived by three sons, Lloyd and Albert of Clay City, and William of Elgin; and two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Cailteaux of Clay City and Mrs. Katie Brown of St. Charles, IL. Two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Bryan of Olney and Mrs. Agnes Miller of Noble survive, as well as two half-brothers, George and Harold Abbott, both of Clay City. Two half-sisters, Mrs. Genelle Hance and Mrs. Lorena DeHart of Clay City also survive. Two step-brothers, Albert Wilson of Clay City and Harry Wilson of Olney also survive, as well as a stepsister, Mrs. Viola Williams of Clay City also survive. He also leaves eight grandchildren.
