    Notes:

    Benjamin was the son of John Cord Crane & Elvira Ellis. He served as a private in Co C, 42nd Regiment of IN Volunteers during the Civil War, commanded by Thomas B Jones. He was honorably discharged at Louisville KY on 21 July 1865. Benjamin was 6' tall with a light complexion, light hair, & blue eyes. He suffered from permanent disabilities of rheumatism, piles, & a crippled arm, which resulted from an accident while knocking nuts from on hickory tree on 21 October 1876; the pole he was using fell on his right arm & broke it about 2" above the wrist. Benjamin was deaf by 8 September 1908. He married Julia Ann Lents on 21 April 1868 & they had 4 children. He married Cordelia E Montgomery on 3 January 1880 & they had 10 children.
