    A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Overcup Baptist Church, rural Vandalia with Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00- 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the church. Military Rites will be accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770 following services at the church.

    Buried:
    In accordance with the wishes of the family, cremation rites will take place.

Departed the U.SS. on October 5, 1942 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Served with unknown medical units in the Normandy and Northern France Campaigns. Reassigned to Company D, 369th Medical Battalion, 'Fighting 69th' Infantry Division and served iin Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on September 23, 1945 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

    Lela P. Frutiger, 87, of Clay City, died June 27, 2004, at Cisne Health Care Center.

    Mrs. Frutiger was born March 12, 1917, in Clay County, the daughter of William and Rosa Bickers Welch. She married Arnold Frutiger August 20, 1935 and he preceded her in death February 22, 1979.

    She was a retired cook and member of the First Pentecostal Church in Dupo.

    Survivors include a son, Dan Frutiger; a daughter, Luella Humphrey; and five grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, six brothers including Lee Welch, and three sisters.

    Graveside services were held at Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.

    Neal Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
