Owen Circuit Court Oct Term 1834: Age 79 the 13th day of Oct 1834, resident of Owen Co.(signed with an " X mark " ) Samuel Evans testified for him. Stated that George Modrell was in a battle with John McCullough in NC (Sassafrass Field). John states that he was born 17 June, 1755 in Lancaster Co., PA (had inscription in family bible by his father for proof) Moved to NC and lived in Mecklenburg & Cabarrus Counties. Thence to" Cox Co."(probably Cocke Co., but also could be Knox Co. ),TN , lived there 3 yrs.. Thence to Pulaski Co.,KY and lived there 30 yrs; then to Owen Co., IN. He enlisted in the RW at Chanceford Twp, York Co. , PA; but also entered the war again in NC, 8 Feb.,1777 and was a prisoner on 14 Apr.,1779, mustered out Nov.,1779. He stated that his father was ALSO a "John McCullough" and one witness stated that the father was ALSO in the army during the Rev. War.
John married Motheral, Margery Modrell. Margery was born in 1758 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; died in 1825. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
