    July 07, 1934 - December 28, 2020

Helen Freund Bruning Wilson, 86, of Indianapolis passed away on December 28, 2020. Helen was born to the late Carl and Lydia (Males) Freund on July 7, 1934, in Maywood, Indiana.

She graduated in 1952 from Ben Davis High School, joining five generations of Freund children who attended there. Helen married Charles R. Bruning at Mars Hill Church of Christ in Indianapolis on May 9, 1953, while he was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. Helen worked as a secretary for various businesses, beginning with the Indiana Tax Division and concluding with her retirement from Rexnord (Link-Belt). As a member of Chapel Rock Christian Church in Indianapolis, she served as their first Director of Vacation Bible School and as a children's Sunday school teacher, fulfilling her childhood love of teaching Bible stories to her dolls! Helen's other endeavors included serving as Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, Blue Bird leader, secretary of the PTA, and director of Fulton Junior High School's "Follies." She married Joseph E. Wilson on January 1, 1982, at Chapel Rock Christian Church. Together they enjoyed Civil War reenacting, camping, and traveling, including two trips to Ireland. In recent years, Helen enjoyed trips with her church's travel group and the monthly activities hosted by the church.

She was preceded in death by sister Dorothy Freund Cross, brother Lawrence Freund, husband Joseph E. Wilson, stepdaughter Rebecca Wilson, and son-in-law Bernerd Bogar.

Survivors include sister Frances Kay Freund Woods (Gordon), daughter Linda Bruning Fosnight (Dave), daughter Sandra Kay Bruning, stepdaughter Carolyn W. Bogar, stepson Joseph B. Wilson (Jenny), granddaughter Lauren Fosnight, and step-grandchildren Aaron Rader, Amy Wilson, Stephanie Wilson Mayo, and Jessica Wilson as well as nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering to honor Helen will be held later in the year, and her private burial at Lincoln Memory Gardens will be conducted by Conkle Funeral Home of Speedway.

Donations in Helen’s honor may be made to Gleaner's or Heifer International.
