He committed suicide with a .22 caliber pistol on 19 September 1976 at his home at 316 Adams, Flora, Clay County, Illinois.

Military Service:
Entered active service as a draftee on April 5, 1944 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Selected for the Field Artillery, completed basic training, and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Cannoneer. Assigned to Battery C, 882nd Field Artillery Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Honorably discharged as a Private on October 31, 1944 at the regional hospital, same station. Earned the WWII Victory Medal for his brief service.
