Sarah E. Evans, 77, Effingham, died at 7:35 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham with Rev. Ron Myer presiding. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans was born in Olney March 22, 1905, the daughter of Joseph and Mary E. (Elwood) Berry. She married Robert B. Evans and he survives.

She worked for 15 years as an LPN at the Mattoon Hospital.

Other survivors include two sons, James S., Effingham, and John R., Pocatell, Idaho; two brothers, Lyman and Robert E. Berry, both of Olney.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Joseph Berry, 78, died Wednesday (Jan. 22) at the home of his son Lyman Berry, on East Monroe Street. He had been in ill health several years.

The funeral at United Brethren church with burial in Otterbein cemetery.

Mr. Berry was born in Bonpas Township April 24, 1852, the youngest of ten children of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Berry, who were among the earliest settlers of Bonpas Township.

He engaged in farming until thirty years ago when he moved to Olney, Illinois to enter into the real estate and hay buying business.

He was married three times:

1st Marriage; On 14 Jul 1872, Joseph Berry son of Jacob Berry married Harriet Black in Richland Co. IL-Marriage Book.

The 1880 Census in Bonpas Twp Richland Co. IL., Joseph Berry 28 is Farming with wife Harriet [Black] 28 and children; William N. 6 and Jacob A. 3 years; Sister-In-Law; Sarah J. Black 17 years.

Death of Wife; On 19 Sep 1881 Harriet Black Berry died with burial in Otterbein Cemetery.

Notes:

The funeral of Mrs. Joe Berry, who died last Thursday morning as the result of an automobile accident, was held Sunday morning at the U. B. church. Rev. J. B. Connett conducted the services. Burial was in Otterbein cemetery.

Mrs. Berry was born at Greenville, Tenn., April 14, 1872, her maiden name being Bessie Christine Elwood. She was married to Wm. Berry October 17, 1900.

Besides her husband, five children are left to mourn a mother’s departure.
