    Notes:

    Mrs. Everett Scott is Dead

One of the very saddest deaths the Kansan has reported to its readers is the death of Mrs. Everett Scott which occurred last Monday morning at 5:35 o'clock at her home near Glade. This patient, kind, little mother left a family of four small children, the eldest seven years and the youngest fifteen months old.

Three weeks ago last Sunday while she and her family were visiting here in town with Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Reynolds, she took a chill. She went home and pneumonia set in and later typhoid pneumonia and from the first she was very sick.

Mr. and Mrs. James A. Scott who were visiting their daughter, Mrs. Byron Payne and family at Presho, South Dakota were called home and reached here Christmas morning and were with their daughter-in-law to the end.

Through all her severe sickness she never murmured or complained. All was done that could be done to save the young life, but the hand of death could not be stayed.

Millie Melissa Britton was the oldest daughter of William and Angie Bretton and was born near Speed, Kansas, on March 7, 1897. She was married to James Everett Scott on October 14, 1912. Five children were born to this couple: William, Avva, James, Harold and Ruby. James died about four years ago when only a few months old. The four little children are at the home of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Scott who will take care of them.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Smith, pastor of the Methodist church at Glade. Music was furnished by a quartette from Glade. Burial was in the Kirwin Cemetery.

Millie, as Mrs. Scott was familiarly known here, was a loving wife and devoted mother. Her children were always her first thought, and it is one of the mysteries of this life why she was taken so soon from them. While they will have the best of care, "God gives us but one Mother".

We sympathize with Everett and all the relatives on this very sad occasion.
