    Harlen Cochran of Sailor Springs, IL died at the VA Hospital in Danville, IL.

    He was born in Iola, the son of Thomas & Josephine Davis Cochran. He married Eileen Lister July 26, 1962, in Louisville.

    He was a member of the Sailor Springs Christian Church and the Sailor Springs American Legion.

    Survivors include his wife, two sons, Robert & Gary; two daughters, Brenda Pate & Barbara Cochran; a brother, Everett Cochran; three sisters, Della Arnold, Mae James, and Louise Parrott; and two grandchildren.

    Services will be at Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City with Larry Schnautz presiding.

    Burial was in the Clay City Cemetery with full military rites.

    Entered active service in the Air Corps as a draftee on January 18, 1943 at Camp Grant, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Heavy Truck Driver (931). Departed the U.S. on November 17, 1943 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to unknown units until reassigned to the 48th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force, when they were engaged in the Central Europe Campaign. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private 1st Class on April 11, 1946 at the Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.

    NOTES from Carl W. Gray: Harlen was discharged on April 11, 1946. The US Army Air Corps and the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) were subordinate to the US Army from 20 June 1941- 17 September 1947. The United State Air Force became a separate military branch on 19 September 1947 (after his discharge)

    Myrtle Eileen Cochran, better known as "Eileen" to all of her friends, age 73, of Olney, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.

    Eileen was born on January 1, 1938, in Sailor Springs, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth Lister and Myrtle (Welch) Lister. She married Harlen Cochran on July 26, 1962, in Louisville, Illinois. He preceded her in death.

    Eileen worked as a packer in manufacturing, was a bus driver for CEFS Headstart in Clay County, and was a licensed child-care provider for many years and provided in-home child care for neighborhood children.

    She is survived by sons, Robert D. and Gary W. Cochran; daughters Brenda K. Pate, and Barbara J. Humes; brothers, Kenneth W. "Wayne" Lister, Marvin D. Lister, Glen R. Lister, and David Leon Lister; sister Thelma Boyd; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Myrtle Lister, husband Harlen Cochran, special friend Walter Bruner, beloved dog, "Candi," and three grandchildren, Angel Jean Humes, Angel Lynn Humes and Angel Carroll Humes.

    Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, May 23 with funeral services following immediately in the Chapel of Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney.

    Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery with Reverend Chris Jennette officiating.

    Memorials may be given to the family of Eileen in her memory.
