10253 V. Bernadine Taylor, 90, of Flora, and formerly, of Olney, died at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Flora Healthcare Center in Flora.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Services will be held Wednesday at the funeral home with Brother John Craig officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery in rural Claremont.

Mrs. Taylor was born on January 16,1919, in Fairfield, the daughter of Elmer and Emma (Gray) Thatcher. She married Ray Dean Taylor on February 15,1940. He preceded her in death on October 8,1987.

She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ in Olney.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her son, Eugene Taylor and his wife, Alice Faye, of Parkersburg; daughter, Phyllis Lemons, of Flora; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Dean Taylor; sisters, Aileen Lewis, Maxine Mitchell and Hazel Thatcher; and brother, Leslie Thatcher.

10254 Van Dean Sims, 78, a resident of Springfield since 1963, formerly of Jacksonville, died at 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at St. John's Hospice. Van was born on June 13, 1928 in Jacksonville; the son of Byron and Winora Haden Sims. He married Barbara Casolari on October 31, 1970 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Springfield.

He was a 1946 graduate of Jacksonville High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for over twenty years. Van had been employed by Illinois Power Company and Illinois Steel Bridge Company and Eli Bridge Company in Jacksonville. He then retired in 1991 from the Illinois Dept. of Transportation where he had been employed as a structural steel detailer.

He was a handyman who loved to work with wood and enjoyed doing projects for elderly neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, landscaping, yard work and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Wilber and two brothers: Robert and Glenn Sims. He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Sims of Springfield; two sons: Stephen (wife, Susan) Sims of Frisco, TX and Stanley Sims of Springfield; one brother, Morris (wife, Pat) Sims of Jacksonville and three nieces and four nephews.

Funeral Ceremonies at Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. James Hennig officiating. Burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.

10258 Velda Mae Zimmerle, 85, of Olney, Illinois, died on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at her residence.

Velda was born on May 7, 1936 in Clay County, Illinois, the daughter of Addison Fitzgerald and Bessie (Allwood) Fitzgerald.

Later she married Robert Zimmerle, and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1992.

Velda enjoyed flower gardening, going for walks, and collecting dolls. She had a strong work ethic and worked hard. Velda was very independent but took pleasure in spending time with her family.

Velda Mae Zimmerle is survived by sons, Wayne Zimmerle; Kenneth Zimmerle; Galen Zimmerle; William David Zimmerle; William (Zoe Kincaid) Gaither, Jr.; John Gaither; and Merle Gaither; daughter, Mary (Brian) Fletcher; grandchildren, Holly and Joseph; sister, Gertrude Fry of Sorento, IL; Ruth Webb of Olney and brother, Emery (MaryEllen) Fitzgerald of Sorento, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Zimmerle; long time companion, Bill Gaither; daughter, Diane Zimmerle; and sister, Irma Gene Webb.

A funeral service for Velda will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior.

Interment will follow at Maple Dale Cemetery in Olney.

There was no visitation. Graveside services were Saturday May 27, at Hanna Cemetery in Noble with Rev. Father Jerry Wirth officiating. Burial was in Hanna Cemetery.

Mrs. Crouse was born on July 13, 1919 in Redwing, Minn., the daughter of John and Mary (Wolpers) Ursella. She married Paul Crouse on June 19, 1959. She was a retired schoolteacher.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Crouse of Noble; daughters, Lynne Farmer of Russford, Minn., and Karsten Crouse of Carbondale; son, Jay Crouse of Watertown, N.Y.; daughter, Lori Muhs of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Crouse was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

10262 Vera "Katherine" Oliver, 78, of Louisville, died Feb. 13, 2013 at Flora Rehab and healthcare Center.

Mrs. Oliver was born Dec. 28, 1934 in Pana, the daughter of Michael and Goldie Caldwell Nosek. She married Morris Oliver Sept. 30, 1958 and he preceded her in death.

She was a CNA at Flora Rehab and Healthcare Center.

Survivors include three sons, Donald, Samuel, and David Oliver; a daughter, Kathy Oliver; two sisters, Mary Bowen and Sarah Gill; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceing her in death were her parents, husband, and four brothers, Paul, Norman, Joseph and Martin Nosek.

Funeral servises were held at Neal Funeral Home in Louisville with cremation rites accorded.

10263 Vera "Pat" Louise Ames, 77, of Clay City, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Mt. Vernon, IL.

She was born August 31, 1939 in Little Rock, AR, daughter of Edgar and Martha (Long) Sampson. She married Ray Ames on April 18, 1983.

Pat was a cook at Knapps in Clay City and years ago waited tables at Little Diner. Pat enjoyed reading, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Pat is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ray Ames of Clay City; daughter, Debbie McCarthy and husband Elmo of Rinard, IL; son, Robert Taylor of Iuka, IL; daughter, Mary Cole and husband Robert of Clay City; daughter, Gaitha Miller and Jerry Britton of Noble; grandchildren, Billy King, Jeremy King, Matthew McCarthy, Christopher McCarthy, Kelsie Frederick, Amber Sanders, Cassandra Lagle, Nicole Taylor, Casey Taylor, Dustin Taylor, Katie Stanley, and Haley Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Woods; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Stanford; brothers, Leo, Delmer, Robert, Richard, James, and Charles Sampson; sisters, Mary McClintock, Marie Cates, and infant sister, Phyllis Sampson.

She was a member of the Rock Branch General Baptist Church of Cisne and also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge #973 of Cisne.

Surviving Vera are: Her Husband- Lloyd of Johnsonville; 1 Daughter – Connie Brashear and Her Husband- Garry of Johnsonville and 1 Son- Gerry Clements and His Wife- Connie of Johnsonville; 1 Brother – Norman Schell of Xenia, IL. Also 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: 1 Grandson-Scott, 4 Sisters, 2 Brothers & Her Parents.

Mrs. Bissey was born Oct. 14, 1896, in Wayne County, the daughter of Alpha and Lottie (Michel) Rogers. She married J. Milnor Bissey April 20, 1915, in Clay City and he preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1967.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Kenneth, Robert, Donald, all of Clay City; William, Houston, Texas; Larry, Calhoun; two daughters, Mrs. Knight (Lucille) Harris and Mrs. Jimmie (Lois) McKinney, both of Clay City; a brother, Rev. Roy Rogers, Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Gibbs, Fairfield; Marjorie Staley, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

10271 Vergil C. Bufkin, 79, Aptos, Ca., and formerly of Olney and Clay City, died Monday morning in his home.

Services will be at the Norman Family Mortuary in Soquel, Ca. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Santp Cruz, Ca.

Mr. Bufkin was born in Sailor Springs, Oct. 10, 1902, the son of Louie and Daisy (Harris) Bufkin. He married Edith Abbott Aug. 5, 1928 and she survives.

He was a building contractor in Olney and Clay City before retiring to California.

Other survivors include a son, Vergil Patrick, Grass Valley, Ca.; two daughters, Mrs. W.R. (Donna) Thrun, Grass Valley; and Mrs. Jerry (Diane) Finders, Sunnyvale, Ca.; a brother, Lannes Bufkin, Lancaster, Ca.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

10273 Verity Erma (Stevens) Clodfelter, 86, of Parkersburg, died at 10:42 p.m. June 27, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Parkersburg Christian Church. Funeral services for Verity will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem is in charge of arrangements.

Verity was born May 29, 1925, in Parkersburg, to John and Ethel (Treece) Stevens. She married Raymond E. Clodfelter on October 12, 1947. They ran the family farm for almost 60 years.

She loved spending time with her family. Her enjoyments were community activities, especially the Chowder, visiting area nursing homes and activities at Parkersburg Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Stevens; husband, Raymond E. Clodfelter; and siblings, Getonia, Harvey, Mildred, Homer, Earl, Robert and Bernerd.

Verity is survived by her three sons, Bernard (Marian), Edwin (Carolyn) and John Clodfelter, of Parkersburg; five daughters, Mildred (Lester) Brooks, of Ogden, Louise Daniel, of Parkersburg, Eva (Albert) McCracken, of Cisne, Edna (Jerry) Fletcher, of Evansville, Ind., and Clara Biehl, of Bridgeport. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, as well as two great-granddaughters on the way.

Memorials may be made in Verity's memory to Parkersburg Christian Church.

10275 Vernal L. Roush, age 85, formerly of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday evening, April 10, 2020, at Avon Health & Rehabilitation Center in Avon, Indiana.

She was born June 9, 1934, in Flora, the daughter of Verdie A. and Mamie F. (Cox) Coble. Vernal married George Kenneth Roush on April 18, 1954, in Flora, and they shared 59 years of marriage together. Kenny passed away September 24, 2013.

Vernal was a very outgoing, loving person who greeted everyone with a smile. A lifelong resident of Flora, she was blessed with many friends young and old. For many years she and Kenny wintered in Rockport, Texas, where they met people from all around the country.

Her family and her friends were treasures in her life. She enjoyed picnics, playing golf, DAR, her sorority, and many church and community activities. Vernal especially loved her family, reading, and listening to Gospel music.

Vernal is survived by her daughter: Kimberly Ranson (husband Steve) of Hazelwood, Indiana; daughter-in-law: Janet Willey (husband John) of Hazelwood, Indiana; two grandsons: Chad Ranson (wife Abbi) and Aaron Ranson (wife Leigh); five great-grandchildren: Bella and Molly Ranson, and Lily, Harper, and Silas Ranson; four sisters: Frances A. Anderson (husband George), Wilma L. Hongsermeier, Judith Morris (husband Don), and Joan Melton (husband Bob); and sister-in-law: Nancy Coble; as well many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son: Gregory Roush; a granddaughter: Amber Ranson; and a brother: Vernon Arthur Coble.

A private funeral ceremony will be held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Steve Ranson officiating.

Burial will follow in Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery.

10276 Vernon B. Hasker, 74-year-old Sumner resident, died in Red Hills Nursing Center in that city about 1:20 a.m. today.

Born in Claremont Township, Richland County, Ill., Jan. 30, 1905, he was a son of Henry and Frances Brian Hasler. He was married to Lovre Weagel, who survives him.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Schulze of St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Weagel and Mrs. Mary Fletcher, both of Sumner, Mrs. Lilybelle Provines of Route 1 Sumner, and Lulabelle Hasler of Route 2 Claremont; a brother, Roy Hasler of Route 2, Claremont; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Hasler was a retired farmer.

Funeral Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Sivert Funeral Home in Sumner.

Funeral Rites for Vernon B. Hasler will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday from Sivert Funeral Home in Sumner with the Rev. Kenneth Provines officiating. Interment will follow in Sumner Cemetery.

Friends may call in the funeral home Friday after 6 p.m.

A 74-year-old Sumner resident, Mr. Hasler died in Red Hills Nursing Center about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Vernon was born March 11, 1925 at Bluford, Illinois to Samuel G. and Ruby I. (Shelton) Lane. He married Elizabeth (Bashore) Lane January 16, 1943 at St. Louis, MO.

Vernon was an oilfield worker, farmer and painter and enjoyed fishing and camping.

Vernon is survived by his wife Elizabeth Lane of Cisne, IL; two sons Junior Vernon (Treva) Lane and Dennis Ray (Doris) Lane of Cisne, IL; one sister Norma Jean Thomason of Bluford, IL; three brothers Verdon (Freda) Lane of Bluford, IL, and Sammy (Carolyn) Lane and Leonard Lane of Mt. Vernon, IL. Six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.

Preceding him in death were one sister Venita, two brothers Virgil and Harvey, and his parents.

Funeral service for Vernon Calvin Lane will be 1:30PM Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Hosselton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cisne Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7PM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Vernon Calvin Lane and will be accepted at Hosselton Funeral Home.

10278 Vernon G. Powell, 73, of 316 S. Fourth St. died at 10:52 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Beechwood Health Care Center.

Born April 30, 1925, in Mackinaw to Charles and Bessie Beckel Powell, he married Bonnie Bonham on Dec. 24, 1948 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Alice Skaggs of South Pekin and Linda Jobe of Marquette Heights; two sons, Vernon Powell Jr. of Cahokia and Jack Gordon of Elsberry, Missouri; four brothers, Robert and Harold, both of Pekin, Charles of Peoria and Carl of San Antonio and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, one granddaughter, one sister, one brother, and one son, Ronnie Powell in 1984.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a truckdriver for Hall Transport for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Eagles Aerie Lodge 1869.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, San Jose.

According to on-line marriage information found on FamilySearch.org, Edwin B Warmoth married Sarah Marshall on Aug 17, 1865 in Edwards Co, IL. Sarah Marshall might have been Laura (b 1865) and Florence's (b 1861) mother. When Edwin passed away, it appears his father, John Warmoth became the guardian of his daughters. Laura and Florence can be found living with John Warmoth in both the 1870 the 1880 US Censuses of Edwards County, IL.

Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia where John William Satterfield was born became part of newly created West Virginia, in 1863, during the Civil War.

John William Satterfield was the youngest son of Thomas Satterfield (1785-1859) and his wife Lydia (Robinson) Satterfield.

Following the Civil War John William Satterfield followed his elder brother The Rev. Thomas Robinson Satterfield to the state of Illinois. Later Reverend Thomas Satterfield removed from Illinois to Los Angeles, California where he became a renowned minister in Southern California. John William and his family remained in Illinois.

10298 Vicki Lynn Bourne Conley, 66, of Effingham, passed away on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 10, 2014) at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Aug. 5, 1948 in Olney, the daughter of Loy Sr. and Norma Lamkin Bourne. She married Daniel J. Conley on Feb. 6, 1971 in Normal. He survives.

Survivors also include her brother, Loy Jr. (Sherry) Bourne.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a retired teacher and tutor. She graduated from Noble High School and Illinois State University with bachelor's and master's degrees in science.

10299 Vicki Martell, 45, of Clay City, IL died at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO as a result of an automobile accident.

Vicki was born July 23, 1959 in Olney, IL to Joseph & Julie Hildebrand Noll. She was married to William "Bill" Martell on November 10, 1990 in Port Charlotte, FL.

She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Sailor Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Martell; daughters Ginny Carter and Madolyn Martell; son, William; brothers, Calvin Noll & Stewart Noll; sisters, Julia Murphy, Karen Morris; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Rozzalyn Carter.

Services were held at Summers-Kistler funeral Home with burial in Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.

Full military rites were held at the cemetery.
