10305 | Vicky (Basinger) Sharp, 55, of Clay City, passed away peacefully at her home at 3:06 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018. She was born July 11, 1963, to Walter and Freda (Cornell) Basinger in Harvey, Illinois. Vicky married Richard W. Sharp on December 19, 1992. Vicky was a family woman. She was a spitfire, full of sass, and a true redhead from her honesty to her attitude. Vicky fought cancer for her last three years of her life but in true red head fashion, she fought hard. Vicky loved her children more than anything and though she only birthed four children of her own, many called her mom. She loved having a house full of laughter and being a safe place for all. No one will ever forget Vicky and her stash of wooden spoons. Vicky loved working with the civics association and being a part of the fall festival in Clay City. She was blessed with many friends who turned into family in her 55 years of life. Vicky is now a guardian angel to her loving husband Rick; four children, Bruce, Alysa, James and Haley; grandson, Raymond and her first granddaughter who is expected to arrive in 2019; sister, Dawn Laird; brothers, Wayne Basinger, Glen Basinger, and Larry French, and step-mother Velma Downs, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Transformation Church of God in Clay City, IL. Visitation will be from 5 6 p.m. at the church. 10309 | Victor Lee Wille, 57, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away on July 19, 2019. Vic was born in Olney, Illinois on February 20, 1962 to Charles Alvin and Lois Wille. Throughout his childhood he also lived in Key West, Florida and Alton, Illinois. He married Glenda (Wilson) on July 31, 1982. Vic is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Glenda; his son Chuck Wille and wife Amber; his son Buddy Wille; his daughter Melissa Hagen and husband Derek; his mother Lois Wille; and his six grandchildren Ellie Hagen, Clara Hagen, Ava Wille, Leeam Wille, Owen Wille, and Logan Wille. He is also survived by his Aunt Lois and Uncle Jay Roberts. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Alvin Wille; grandparents Charles H. Red and Sarah Rachel Wille; grandparents Jack and Martha McDowell; and several uncles and aunts. He worked for several years in the oil field. In all his time driving trucks, he always favored Mack trucks. He also worked as a mechanic and owned RPM Repair in Clay City. In his later years, he enjoyed buying and selling, and owned The Bargain Barn in Flora. He was an avid collector and had an eye for unique items. He enjoyed collecting a variety of things, especially toys and Hot Wheels, and he loved to send random treasures home with his grandkids. He loved to go to auctions to build his collections. He never met a stranger. He will be remembered by his love of talking and sharing stories with all his friends and family, or in his words, "shooting the sh*t." Vida was born July 3, 1919, in Wayne County, the daughter of Bert and Gertrude (Cummins) Rosenberg. She married Leo Murbarger on February 16, 1938, in Clay City. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1987. Vida was a lifelong member of Clay City United Methodist Church. She was also a part of United Methodist Women, Walk to Emmaus, The Rebeccas, and Flora Golf and Country Club. She loved God, her family, and friends. She loved traveling, golfing, music, playing cards, fishing, cooking, and reading, especially the Bible. She is survived by daughter, Marilyn (Steve) Helburn; daughter, Phyllis (Jim) Koss; daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Sunday; grandchildren, Trudy and David Hunley, Brad and Sarah Ausbrook, Duane Ausbrook, Stephanie Helburn, James Helburn, Tory and Scott Wilson, Jami and Ray Melton, Joey Sunday, and J.R. and Melanie Sunday; brother-in-law, Neil Murbarger; sister-in-laws, Retha Murbarger and Marjorie Murbarger; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 10316 | Villa Grove, IL A seven months old baby was killed instantly and seven other persons were injured at 6:30 oclock last night, August 14, 1941, when the cars of Carl Livengood of Villa Grove and John Murbarger, farm worker of near here, collided at an intersection five miles west of Villa Grove. The child, Janice Fay Murbarger, was dead when ambulances bearing the injured reached Jarman Hospital at Tuscola. The body was taken to the Waddington Funeral Home in Tuscola and will be taken to Dundas, in northern Richland County for burial. Others injured in the collision were Mr. and Mrs. John Murbarger, parents of the fatally injured child; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Livengood of Villa Grove and their three children, Larry 8, Max 13 and Anne 10. The Livengood family were on their way to visit Mrs. Livengoods parents at Bement. Mr. and Mrs. Murbarger, who recently had come here from near Clay City to work on a farm a mile north of the scene of the accident, were driving south toward Tuscola. It was rumored here this morning that Mrs. Murbarger had died, but attendants at Jarman hospital this morning reported that her condition as well as that of the other injured, was fair. Boyd, D.D.S. died at home Friday April 1, 2011, at 12:40 a.m. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Reverend George Ford officiating. Dr. Boyd was born April 16,1935, in West Baden Springs, Ind., the son of the late Jane Ballard Abel and Leo Boyd and the stepson of Paul F. Abel. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and the recipient of many commendations and campaign ribbons. He was a graduate of West Baden High School, Indiana University, Indiana University School of Den- tistry, Boston University School of Medicine and received his surgery training in the hospitals of both Boston and Harvard University with an anesthesiology residency served in Marion County General Hospital, now known as Wishard Memorial. He began Surgery practice in Vincennes, Ind., on August 30,1969, and retired from private practice in 2007- He was past president of the Medical Staff, Department Chair of Surgery and Chairman of the Dental Division of Good Samaritan Hospital. His memberships include American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and American Dental Association. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge 291, American Legion, National Rifle Association, a life member of the Second Amendment Foundation, Vincennes Gun Club, a charter member of Quail Unlimited, Indiana Historical Society and American Civil War Foundation, National Wildflower Association and the Audubon Society. His interests include educational philanthropy, farming and gardening. He also was an avid fisher- man. Dr. Boyd is survived by his long-time companion, Janine M. 10318 | Vincennes Sun-Commercial (IN) - Saturday, January 4, 2003 OLNEY, Ill. - Herman F. Gumble, 82, Noble, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Born July 29, 1920, in Noble, he was the son of Charles G. and Dora (Weidner) Gumble. He was current pastor of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren in rural southern Richland County, and former pastor of churches in Wynoose and Olney. He was a retired farmer and general contractor. He was a former Denver Township road commissioner, Noble village trustee and vice chairman of the Richland County Board from 1984 to 1996. He was past commander of the Clifford Sanderson American Legion Post in Noble, a life member of the national American Legion and helped start the DARE program in Noble. A World War II veteran, he attained the rank of staff sergeant while serving in the Army from 1942 to 1946. He received two Bronze Stars for meritorious service during the battle of Luzon in the Western Pacific. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy of Noble; three daughters, Debbie Phillips of Vincennes, Angela Pace of Evansville, Ind., and Mary Weesner of Geneva; a sister, Lela Bidner of Noble; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. A daughter and two sisters are deceased. The funeral will be conducted at noon CST Tuesday at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney by Pastor Rick Weesner, his son-in-law. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton with Father Al Kemme celebrating Mass. Arrangements are under the care of Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton. Jack was born on April 29, 1926, in rural Newton, the son of George and Catherine (Volk) Kistner. He married Charlene Rose Zuber on October 12, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2009. Jack was a lifelong farmer and road commissioner of Fox Township in Jasper County for 20 years. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Newton Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Violet enjoyed sewing, cooking, cake decorating, flower arranging, gardening, and her family. 10323 | Violet Laura Allphin Wells, 83, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in her home. Graveside service in Graceland Cemetery. Violet was born in Clay County on April 17, 1928, daughter of Reuben and Esta Crain Allphin. She and her sister Vera sang together as children and young women, and Violet was a self-taught artist and musician who created oil paintings and quilts and played the guitar and keyboard by ear. She worked at various jobs from a young age, and was a stay-at-home mom to her son and daughter. She was a Cub Scout leader for her son and Girl Scout leader for her daughter, served as room mother and volunteered at her childrens schools. She married William L. Wells on Nov. 9, 1946 in Clay County and he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2010. Violet is survived by her son and daughter and two nephews. She married Lewis E. Yingst April 28, 1931 in Pesotum and he preceded her in death September 1, 1997. She had worked as a housekeeper, was a homemaker, and was baptized in the Full Gospel Church in Edgewood. Survivors include five sons, James, Vic, Carl, Robert, David, and Glenn Yingst; five daughters, Ruby Caldwell, Maxine Wilson, Violet Lilley, Ruth Liska, and Fern Hays; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and great-great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Mr. Berry will be at the Crest Haven Memorial Park with Pastor Phil Gardner presiding. Mr. Berry was born in Clay County on Sept. 1, 1894, son of John O. and Susan (Robards) Berry. He married Catharine Johnston on May 11, 1918, and she died on June 19, 1975. He was an Olney Township road commissioner for many years, and city of Olney street foreman. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by a son, Jack of Media, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Charlotte) Bosson of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brothers, Robert of Hutchinson, Kansas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He married Lillian Rinnert January 30, 1932 in Sailor Springs. She passed away June 7, 1985. A member of Freedom Baptist Church in Noble, Mr. Herdes was a retired self-employed welder. 10334 | Virgil Warren Hasler, age 90 of Salem, died Thursday, March 23rd, at his home. He was a truck driver for WC Norris and was a member of the Orchardville Community Church. Virgil served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Randolph. He was involved in the battles of the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Funeral services for Virgil Warren Hasler will be held at ten Monday morning at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, with George Thompson, Paul and Dean Brown officiating. Burial in the Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be from five to seven on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the SSM Hospice. Virgil Warren Hasler was born on October 23rd, 1926 in Chaffee, Missouri to Harry Hasler and Leila (Ireland) Hasler. His parents preceded him in death. Virgil married Non 'Peggy' Wilson on June 3rd, 1947 and she preceded him in death. He later married Karen Woodward on January 14th, 2005. Virginia was born April 17, 1927 in Clay City, Illinois and was the daughter of Dick H. and Frankie (Rineheart) Johnson. She attended Welcome Church of Christ and was baptized as a young adult. Virginia retired in 1972 from Mansfield Plumbing Products in Big Prairie. She loved gardening and her favorite flower was a red mum. Virginia's favorite gospel hymns were Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. She also liked playing bingo with her friends at Majora Lane. She is survived by her children, Beverley Keyser Kleilein (Russ) and Becky Keyser Timpner (Wade); grandchildren Angie Keyser Adibe, Shelley Arnold Artrip, Marcus and Clay Timpner and Ashley Timpner Wilson; and several great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were sons, James Keyser and Timothy Keyser; and her 11 brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 4th at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Ohio with Pastor Clifford Beck officiating. She married Carl Fitzgerald on November 17, 1940 in Charleston, MO. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1991. They were the parents of one son, Ronnie Fitzgerald, who departed this life in 1988. Vivian spent her entire life in the Flora area, having worked at International Shoe Company for 24 years, and was the manager of Fashion Lane for 10 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Win-A-Couple Class of the church. Vivian enjoyed her family. She is survived by 2 granddaughters: Shelly Makame of Indianapolis, IN and Ann Fogarty & husband Ed of Washington, IN; 3 brothers: Edwin Pearce of Flora, Kenneth Pearce of Flora, and Bill Pearce & wife Joan of Flora; 8 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
