10420 | WASHINGTON, IL - Anton J. "Andy" Volk, 84, of Washington passed away at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, IL. He was born on May 10, 1926, in Wendelin, Ill., to Anton C. and Catherine Kuenstler Volk. Andy married Dorothy Kapper in Olney, Ill., on Sept. 25, 1954. Dorothy survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Jatkowski of Fisher, Ind., and Phyllis (Michael) Austin of Morton; one son, Kenneth (Monica) Volk of Tremont; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Volk of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three sisters, Sister Loretta Volk and Sister Antoinette Volk, both of Donaldson, Ind., and Ethel (Herman) Zwilling of Claremont, Ill.; one brother, Don (Arlene) Volk of Wendelin; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Duane, who died in 2004; and two brothers. Andy had retired from Caterpillar, where he had worked for 43 years and was an inspector in the East Peoria facilities. An Army veteran of World War II, Andy had served in France, England and Manila. During his time of service he walked usually three to four miles every day. Andy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and also a member of Knights of Columbus, Father John Menco Council 6707, and was a 4th degree Knight. A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Andy at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Donton officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Mason-White Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. He came to Albion, IL about 1853 and two years later moved to Clay City, IL. He was married to Elizabeth Wise June 1, 1865. Twelve children were born. His wife and ten children survive. NOTE:I don't know whether or not you are interested in posting a comment regarding a possible discrepancy. It looks like the biographical text on this page came from a brief obituary. The State of Illinois marriage index indicates that Waterhouse Crackel and Elizabeth Wise were married on January 4, 1865. 10424 | Wayne "Wad" Mitchell, 73, of Noble, Illinois, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Wayne was born on February 5, 1948 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Lawrence J. Mitchell and Leona Maxine (Thacher). He married Loretta (Hemrich) on May 24, 1969 in Noble, IL, and she survives. Wayne was a US Army First Calvary Veteran of the Vietnam War. Wayne was a self-employed contractor with Souder & Mitchell Construction with his partner Dennis Souder. He specialized in plumbing and HVAC. Wayne enjoyed driving in Demolition Derbies with his sons and nephews and had won several Derby trophies. In his younger years, he coached his sons' baseball teams and All-Stars. Wayne also took pleasure in farming and caring for his and Loretta's dogs and horses. He also enjoyed going to the grandkids' activities and spending time with his family. Wayne liked to go out to eat and try new places. Wayne was a selfless man who would help anybody. His kind and carefree heart will be greatly missed. Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta M. Mitchell; son, Kevin Mitchell and wife LaNae of Noble; son, "Buck" Curtis Mitchell and wife Becky of Noble; daughter, Shawna Hill of Noble; grandchildren, Jessica Mitchell, Dylan Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Cody Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, Jaron Hill, and Ashley Hill; special niece, Daryla (Nathan) Harper and children, Christopher Brant and Megan (Wes) Hagan; great grandchildren, Brendan Weir, Liam Mitchell, and Sawyer Mitchell; brothers, Leroy (Frances) Mitchell and Perry Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. 10426 | WAYNE CITY -- Art Barnard, 92, died at 4:37 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in Wayfair Nursing Center in Fairfield. He was known as an independent businessman, cattle buyer, trucker and founder of the livestock auction market in Wayne City. He was a member of Wayne City Baptist Church. Art was born Oct. 29, 1921, in the Crisp community, eight miles north of Wayne City, to Arthur and Mae (Tolbert) Barnard. He was a graduate of SIU Carbondale; and a World War II Army combat veteran serving with the 100 Infantry Division at the Battle of the Bulge. He was united in marriage Oct. 16, 1949, in Carbondale, to Harriett Gertrude Barkley. Survivors include two sons, Barkley Barnard and his wife, Denise, of Fairfield and Mark Barnard of Wayne City; three granddaughters, Kassie (Mark) Towle of Quartz Hill, Calif., Jessica (William) Peabody of Tucson, Ariz., and Marlissa (Tyler) Boyles of Olney; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Arnold; nephew, Leon (Dixie) Barnard; three nieces, Joyce Hawthorne, Kay Meritt and Sandy (Allen) Simpson; beloved friend and companion, June Staley of Carbondale; and dedicated care-giver, Tess Bailey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett; parents; brothers, Estel and Lavern Barnard; and sister, Florence Bullard. Services for Arthur Barnard Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, in Wayne City Baptist Church at Meadow and Walnut streets in Wayne City with the Rev. John Little officiating. 10428 | Wayne County Press March, 1947 SKETCH OF MRS. POWELL (Mary Ann Brand Powell) Mary Ann, daughter of Sandy and Mary Ann Brand, was born in county of Fife, Scotland, June 4th, 1862. She came to America with her parents at the age of 6 and located on a farm near Jeffersonville. Here she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage with Tobias B. Powell April 3rd, 1883. Seven children were born to this union, two little sons having died in early childhood. A daughter, Florence, died in 1908 and another daughter, Mrs. Fronia Bowles, preceded her in death in 1913. The companion passed away August 21st, 1946. Many years ago she confessed her faith n Christ and united with the Cisne Christian church, where she retained her membership throughout her life. After several months illness she entered peacefully into rest at the home of her son, Johnnie, near Fairfield, early Saturday morning, March 22nd, 1947, age 84 years, 9 months and 18 days. She is survived by two sons, Charlie of Pekin and Johnnie of Fairfield; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Haney of Evansvlle, Ind., 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and lone sister, Mrs. Sophronia Johnson of Fairfield. 10429 | Wayne County Record, Apr 14, 1927, obit: On last Friday afernoon a terrible accident occurred in Zif Township whereby Mrs Catherine Wilkin was so badly burned that she died in about twelve hours after she had received the injury. Mrs Wilkin and her husband, Virgil, had been to a hatchery and returned home with a lot of little chickens and as the weather was somewhat cold for them, a fire was built in the kitchen stove and the little chicks were placed behind the stove. Mr Wilkin left the home to go to a neightborhood store and the children of the family were playing around in the yard with a neighbor child. In working around the stove the dress of Mrs Wilkin got against the stove which had become red hot and her clothing was soon a mass of flames. The children heard Mrs Wilkin scream and the little neighbor girl ran to her home and told her mother and a passing neightbor and they rushed to thehome and found Mrs Wilkin with her clothing entirely burned off andt he body was a mass of blacken flesh. Katie Fout, daughter of W H and Susan Fout was born in Mt Erie Township, Wayne County, IL on Sep 25, 1901 and departed this life Apr 9, 1927 at her home in Zif Township, Wayne County, IL, age 25 yr, 6 mo and 15 da. She has lived in this community all her life. On her nineteenth birthday, Sep 25, 1920, she was united in marriage to Virgil Wilkin to this union were born three children, Mary Ann, Glen and Beatrice. 10432 | Wayne Dean Wyatt, age 69, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Wednesday evening, October 19, 2022, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. He was born November 5, 1952, in Flora, the son of Noel E. and Kathryn Jean (Herdes) Wyatt. Wayne was a 1970 graduate of Clay City High School and was a member of the Sailor Springs Christian Church. He had worked at various factories over the years including the International Shoe Factory, AMF Bicycle Factory, Florsheim Shoe Factory, and North American Lighting, retiring after 47 years. Wayne enjoyed tending to his goats, cows, chickens, and horses on the farm and was especially fond of his Belgian horses. He enjoyed cooking and loved eating sweets. He will be remembered for his kind, giving spirit, his sense of humor, and his loyalty to his friends and family. He is survived by his father: Noel Wyatt of Clay City; sister: Mona (Steve) Lewis of Clay City; nieces and nephews: Shawn (Kevin) Williams of Flora, Charity (Derek) Mitchell of Clay City, Chad (Penny) Wyatt of Vergennes, Jeremy (Katie) Fitch of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Cody (Jennifer) Lewis of Clay City; great-nieces and nephews: Kenna Williams, Sabryna (Brandon) Hand, Josie Williams (Austin Davis), Tryston and Bella Wyatt, Jackson Morris, and Isabella, Lennox, Pyper Kay, and Remi Lewis; great-great-nephew: Christopher Davis; and special friend: Lily Stutzman. He was a retired sales representative after 30 years with National Production System in Clay City and a longtime member of the Oddfellows. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing. Mr. Patridge is survived by his wife, Bernetta Patridge; sons, Carl Wayne Patridge Jr., Ronnie Dean Patridge, and Mark Douglas Patridge; four grandchildren, Tonya Spears, Jill Patridge, and Trenton Douglas and Tammy Marie Patridge; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sam and Herbert Buss. Visitation was at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City. 10442 | We are saddened to announce Lindy Lynn Hosselton, Age 95, of Flora, IL, passed away at 12:30 am, August 24, 2024, at the Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Lindy was born on February 26, 1929, in Zif Township, Wayne County, Illinois to William Seth and Dorothy (Mosely) Hosselton of Clay City, IL. In 1947 he graduated from Clay City High School. On July 31, 1948, he was united in marriage to Roberta Rule. They were married for 76 years. Lindy spent his early years farming with his father and then worked on the B&O Railroad as a communications operator from where he retired. While working at the B&O Railroad, he was also a part-time rural mail carrier and for several years ran a U-Pick strawberry patch located just south of Lincoln Grade School. He was a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Flora, IL where he was a deacon of the church as well as other church related activities. Lindy and his wife Roberta loved traveling, visiting their grandchildren, friends, and relatives. For several years, Lindy and Roberta also enjoyed staying in Florida during the winter months and playing golf. Lindy is survived by his wife Roberta Hosselton; two children and spouses, Deborah (Hosselton) and Douglas Cosby, Jeff, and Laura Hosselton; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Cosby) Fox, Noah Cosby, Rachel (Cosby) Leary, Nathan Hosselton, Natalie Hosselton, Olivia (Hosselton) Zdankiewicz, and Rebecca Hosselton; and eight great grandchildren. Preceding him death were his parents, and his siblings; Harold Hosselton, Claribelle (Hosselton) Davis, Gill Hosselton, Russell Hosselton, Joe Hosselton, and Luther Hosselton; and one great grandchild, R.J.
