1512 Clay D. Bayler, 92, of Olney, died at 1:24 a.m. Monday, October 11, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Zirkle Funeral Home with Reverend Keith MICHAELS officiating. Burial will be held in Hope Chapel at Crest Haven Memorial Park. He married Neva REICHELDERFER June 1, 1946, in Columbus, OH. She survives.

He was Chief Officer of Administrative Services for the United States Government and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Olney City Council from 1973 to 1977. He served as president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees for the Richland County Chapter. He won the WVLN Community Service Award in 1973. He was a member of the Department of Meritorious Civilian Service in 1945.Mr. BAYLER was a hospital volunteer for many years. He worked for Junior Achievement and had served as Chairman of the Heart Fund Drive. He was a member of the Clay City Lodge #488 AF & AM, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Southern Illinois.

Mr. BAYLER is survived by his wife, Neva BAYLER, of Olney; two sons, Richard C. BAYLER and his wife Sandy of Clay City and David L. BAYLER and his wife Joann of Paris; one brother Carroll BAYLER of Louisville; four grandsons, Scott, Matthew, Jared and Travis BAYLER.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church.

1513 Clem Johnson, age 63 of Sandoval, passed away on July 6, 2019, at the Park Ridge Health Center in Chatanooga, Tennessee. Clem worked as a truck driver with Warfield Oil Company and was currently working for the Shoppers Weekly. He was well known for trying to help others when he could. He was an organ donor. Clem lived for his grandchildren.

Graveside services for Clem Johnson will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 4:00 pm at the Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin, with Claude Howell officiating. Clem was born on December 18, 1955, in Salem, Illinois to Earl and Mary (Powell) Johnson.

Survivors include, daughter, Ami Pratt of Odin; brother, Mark Johnson and wife Lisa of Kell; three grandchildren, Walker, Azlinn, and Colton; ex-wife and close friend, Vicki Johnson of Odin; niece, JoBeth Crompton and husband Kyle of Salem; nephew, Josh Johnson of Odin; special friends, Glenda Finkbone of Odin and Jeff Simpson of Odin; adopted grandson, Brandon Hamburg.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Maverick.

1514 Cleo Elza Sullens was born in Crawford County, IL to Solomon and Rosabell Sullens September 16, 1892 and departed this life on April 15, 1959 at the age of 66 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

On August 4, 1915 he was united in marriage to Edna Wogan and two children were born to this union. Leone and Erba (who passed away in infancy.)

During the early years of his marriage he trusted Christ as his personal Saviour and with his wife united with the Sailor Springs Baptist Church. Several years ago he moved his membership to the Clay City Baptist Church. Through the years he was a faithful and willing member having served as deacon, trustee, superintendent of the Sunday School and music director.

Four sisters, two brothers and his parents have preceded him in death. Besides his wife, Edna, and daughter, Leone Mayo, he leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Mattie Miller and Anna Palmer; a brother, Everett; five grandchildren, Carolyn Martin, Don, Doris and Jerry Mayo; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of neighbors and friends.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and to know him was to love him.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Maple Dale Cemetery in Olney with Reverend David McNabb officiating.

Mrs. Jones was born December 13, 1941, the daughter of Delmar and Anna (Catterton) Groff. She married Jack McDowell. He preceded her in death. She married Clarence Albert Jones on July 5, 1984. He preceded her in death October 14, 2003.

She was a nurse's aide at Burgin Manor.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her son, Jack McDowell, of Hazelton, Pa.; son, Roy McDowell and his wife, Debbie, of Sumner; daughter, Debbie McDowell, of Robinson; daughter, Grace McDowell, of Olney; and daughter, Carol Phillips, of Lawrenceville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Anna Groff; husband, Jack McDowell; husband, Clarence Albert Jones; sister, Beaulah "Tootie" Doty; and grandson, Steven McDowell.

He was born July 27, 1912 in Clay County, the son of Alonzo & Grace Moats Coble. He married Luella Flexter in 1935.

He was a retired employee of B & O Railroad where he worked for over 33 years, a WWII Army Vetaran, Purple Heart recipient, member of the Flora Church of the Nazarene, Flora VFW and the D.A.V. Olney Chapter and a member of the Flora American Legion.

Surviving is his widow, Luella; sons, Roger & Charles; a daughter Cleta Rahe; a sister, Audrey Gordon; and as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, five brothers, and two sisters.

Services were at the Flora Nazarene Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery with military rites.

1522 Clifford W. Bailey, age 84, of Sailor Springs, Illinois, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Clay County Hospital.

He was born April 2, 1937, in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Forrest and Myrtle (Potts) Bailey. He was united in marriage to Joann Gill on May 31, 1958, and together they have shared 63 wedding anniversaries.

Clifford had worked at the International Shoe Company, Fedders in Effingham, Southwire, and retired after serving as the Sailor Springs Postmaster for a number of years. He was a longtime dedicated member and elder at Sailor Springs Christian Church. He enjoyed putting out a big garden each year and had been an active coon hunter.

He is survived by his wife: Joann Bailey of Sailor Springs; 2 daughters: Teresa Bailey and husband Harold Barbour of Spring Grove and Tammy Bailey of Sainte Marie; a sister: Eileen Green of Indiana; a brother: Ralph Bailey and wife Charlene of Louisville; 2 sisters-in-law: Iris Bailey of Pana and Judy Carder of Clay City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Agnes Coe Dell Hilligoss, Forrest Berdett Bailey, Lloyd Othal Bailey, Arden Bernell Bailey, and Arthur Leon Bailey; and a son-in-law: Bob Frye.

A funeral ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Sailor Springs Christian Church with Tim Schnautz officiating. Interment will follow in Dillman Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday evening, July 11, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, and 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Clifford was born August 7, 1951 at Mt. Carmel, IL to Clifton Guy and Mary Maxine (Dicus) Blair.

He was a farm hand for Scott Lambrich Farms. Cliff was of the Christian faith.

Cliff is survived by 4 Daughters: Brandy Schelhorn (& her husband Mark) of Mt. Vernon, IN; Erin Hottel (& her husband Benjamin) of Evansville, IN; Crystal Tennis (& her husband Ryan) of Mt. Carmel, IL; and Trish McIntire (& her husband Chris) of Mt. Carmel, IL; 1 Son: John Blair (& his wife Marlena) of Mt. Erie, IL; 1 Sister: Anna Lea Bedwell (& her husband Harold) of Center Point, IN and 1 Brother John W. Blair (& his wife Kay) of Allendale, IL. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and father-in-law Norman Churchill, Sr.

Funeral services for Clifton 'Cliff' Blair will be Monday, May 10th at 11:00AM at Hosselton Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:30AM until time of service on Monday.

Burial will be in Allendale Cemetery, Allendale, IL.

He was born January 21, 1923 in Bradford, AR the son of Bonnie Washington and Effie Howe (Brown) Curtis. He married Ruby Worley January 20, 1947 at Red Bud, IL. She preceded him in death in 1987.

He was a timber worker and a member of the Xenia Community Church, Xenia, IL

Clinard is survived by four sons – Jerry Curtis, Randy Curtis, Donald Curtis, and Luke Curtis; daughters Barbara Pruitt, Elaine Bullard, Marlene Cosner, Donna Holtzinger, Joyce Williams; 41 Grandchildren; 55 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby, two daughters and one son.

1526 Clinton "Junior" H. Nash, Jr., 81, of Xenia, IL died at 5:43 PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born February 9, 1930 in Pawnee County, IL to Clinton H. Nash, Sr. and Urcle (Herdes) Nash. He married Wanda Reddish on March 11, 1952 in Springfield, IL.

He was an area farmer since 1949, was of the Christian faith, and served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sgt. In the motor pool at Lackland AFB, TX from 1950-1954. He was a past Farm Bureau board member and a member of the Corn and Soybean Association. "Junior" grew up on a farm, was very devoted to his family, and was proud of the family and farm he built. He worked hard with his hands doing all the jobs around the farm, and was always willing to give neighbors a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife: Wanda Nash; 2 daughters: Linda Hurd and Brenda Crouse; 3 sisters: Dorothy Baugh, Hazel Krutsinger, and Sadie Little; 1 brother: Everett Nash; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister (Alberta Clark).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

Burial will be in Golden Cemetery, Louisville, with military honors.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

1528 Clinton Isom Petty, 84, died peacefully at his home in Reflection Ridge Retirement , Wichita, KS on October 24, 2022. He was born September 13, 1938, in Mt. Erie, Illinois to Harl and Alta Petty. On June 15, 1957, he married the love of his life, Donna Rae Christy in Hutchinson, KS. He was retired from IBM, a Navy veteran, and a member of Northside Church of Christ, Wichita.

Clint spent his entire life pursuing to be a better person and in the encouragement of others. Clint loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. He entertained all with his stories, his jokes, his light teasing and his duck noises. Since the passing of his beloved wife two years ago, he devoted himself to greeting every resident in his complex by name at every meal, encouraging the young servers at dinner, and to the teaching of a weekly Bible study.

Clint entered the Navy at 17 to pursue a better life. His Navy life would give him discipline and stability and it would lead him to the Hutchinson Naval Air Base. He soon met his future wife and she introduced him to a closer relationship with Jesus which would impact how he lived the rest of his life.

After serving in the Navy, based out of KeyWest, FL, he returned to Hutchinson to the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard and was in charge of the Hydraulics Department. Later he would be reassigned to Topeka as a ground instructor to retrain Vietnam helicopter pilots for reconnaissance missions. In 1968, he went to work for IBM as a Customer Service Engineer and in 1970 moved to Great Bend where he would work on office machines in most of western Kansas for the next seven years before being transferred to Hutchinson. Later he would be become a Field Manager and eventually the Assistant Branch Manager in the Wichita office for the Service Division of IBM. After 25 years of service, Clint retired from IBM and increased his roles at church and as a Grandpa. He and Donna moved to Dodge City in 1999 to be closer to their grandchildren and all their activities in the Macksville and Minneola school districts.

In 2004 they moved to Enid, OK and returned to Kansas in 2014. Clint would serve as a Bible class teacher and Deacon, and served as an Elder in three congregations they attended....

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Harl Jr., William and Gerald, sisters Patricia Jackson, Lou Petty and Sue Lenear.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. in Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, KS. Family Visitation will be an hour prior to services. Interment following services in Peace Creek Cemetery, Stafford County. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Friday at Elliott Mortuary. She was born in Richland County Sept. 2, 1895. Her husband, Charley, preceded her in death in 1965. They were married in Olney Dec.2,1915.

Surviving are three sons, Floyd and Glenn, both of Noble, and Carmon of Dixon; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Esther) Daniels of Flora.

Services will be held in the Noble Chapel of the Cardascio-Easley Funeral Home, with Rev. Gene
Everett officiating. Burial will be in the Hanna Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

She was a member of the Glenwood Church.

He reenlisted on January 30, 1864 as a Veteran at Scottsboro, Alabama by Lt. Summers He was mustered out of the army on July 24, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky by Captain Alexander.

He died October 26, 1891 in Xenia, Clay County, Illinois and is buried at Tolliver Cemetery, Louisville, Clay County, Illinois.

He was a cousin to Adolphus and Benjamin Tate of this company.

Tucker W. Culbertson, farmer, P.O. Louisville, was born in Lawrence County, Ind., November 12, 1846, and is a son of John B. Culbertson (deceased), a native of Lincoln County, Ky. Mr. Culbertson was brought up on the farm and attended the common schools. He came with his parents to this county in 1860, and has since made this his home.

He was a soldier for Uncle Sam in the late war, serving in Company B, Forty-eighth Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and participated in the battles of Resaca, New Hope Church, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Jonesboro and others. He served from Feb. 22, 1864 and was honorably discharged from the service August 15. 1865.

Our subject was married, June 16, 1860, to Miss Mary J. McKnelly, a daughter of John McKnelly (deceased), who died during the late war while in the service of his country. Mr. and Mrs. Culbertson have had nine children, of whom eight are living, viz., Luella, Sarah F. Mary J., Rebecca E., Annie E., Alfred A., John B. and Theodore.

Mr. Culbertson owns 200 acres of land, and is engaged in farming and stock-raising on Section 2. He is a member of the following orders: Masonic, Odd Fellows and the Grand Army of the Republic. He is also a member of the Baptist Church.

Emory M. Coble, 69, of 3748 Lentz Ave., died Tuesday at Humana Hospital-Audubon. He was a native of Flora, 111., a retired employee of Hazelwood Hospital and an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: his wife, the former Florence Yingst; two daughters, Martha M. Coble and Cathy A. Logs-don; four sons, Claude A. Coble of Fort Myers, Fla., Dale E. Coble of Brooks, Meryle E. and Clifford M. Coble; a sister, Audrey Gordon; two brothers, Cletus Coble of Flora and James Coble of Xenia, 111.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday, Arch L Heady Southern Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Blvd., with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum.

1547 Colette was a homemaker and farm wife as well as a loving wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. Colette enjoyed quilting and made clothing for her children when they were young. BAYLER Neva E. Bayler, age 88, of Paris, Ill., died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at Beehive Nursing Home in Paris, Ill.

Member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Olney, Ill.

Born July 18, 1913 in Wellington, Oh. to Clinton and Edith (Fraunfelter) Reichelderfer. On June 1, 1946, in Columbus, she married Clay D. Bayler, who passed away October 11, 1999.

Her parents and one sister, Imogene, also precede her in death.

She is survived by sons, Richard C. (Sandy) Bayler, Clay City, Ill., and David L. (Joann) Bayler, Paris, Ill.; 4 grandchildren, Scott Bayler, Matt Bayler, Jared Bayler and Travis Bayler.

Funeral service Saturday, October 6, 2001 at ZIRKLE FUNERAL HOME, Olney, Ill., where friends will be received one hour prior to service. Pastor Keith Michaels officiating. Entombment at Star of Hope Mausoleum, Crest Haven Cemetery, Rural Claremont. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.

Rachael Ann Abbott, 85, a resident of Kennedy Trailer Park at 407 S. Gladstone, was found dead at her home at 11 a.m. Saturday. It is believed she suffered a coronary attack a few hours earlier.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. J. Edward Quick at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Summers Funeral Home, Olney, Ill., where persons may call tonight. Burial will be at Haven Hill Cemetery there.

Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home made local arrangements.

Mrs. Abbott was born June 8, 1894, in Illinois, the daughter of John and Fannie Holder Persinger. She was married to Clyde Abbott who died. She lived most of her life in the Richland County, Ill., area. A Columbus resident previously, she attended East Columbus United Methodist Church since her return here in March.

Survivors include a brother and sister, Ralph Persinger and Tillie Sly, both of Walkerton.

At an early age she united with the Methodist church and always lived a true Christian.
