1751 Daughter of Ray and Elsie Fahler Parish. She married Cecil James Kayo Powless in May of 1931 in Clay County. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1982. Survivors include sons John Dale, Robert C. and daughter Kay Marie Stauffer. Brother William, sisters Catherine Myers and Helen Croton.

She won several women's golf championships and scored two holes in one during her golfing career, the last when whe was 81.

Funeral services were held at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Rev. Roscoe Rose and Rev. Keith Turner officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Flora Public Library.

1758 Davey had worked at the Flora Medical Clinic before going on to work at the First National Bank, retiring as Vice President after 25 years. She was a faithful member of the Clay City United Methodist Church where she served as a lay speaker, Sunday School teacher, and assisted with youth group and bible school. She and Loren enjoyed traveling with friends, and she truly loved tending to her flowers, canning a variety of delicious vegetables from her garden, and the music and movies of Elvis Presley. Davey was a caregiver at heart and looked for ways to touch her family and others by lifting them up and brightening their day with a thoughtful handwritten note or card, a phone call, or even with a fresh baked pie. CROWN, Davetta Ann (I12166)

1761 David I. LeFever, age 59, of Clay City, IL passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

David was born May 29, 1954 in San Diego, CA to Irving Velmore LeFever and Bertha (Smith) LeFever Thompson. He married Carol Poe on May 13, 1995 in Clay City.

David worked in the oil fields most of his life and enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, and tending to a vegetable garden. He loved his two dogs "The Boys".

He is survived by his wife: Carol LeFever; four children: Charity, Amanda, Audrey, and James LeFever; his mother: Bertha Thompson; a sister: Helen (Ken) Markham; two brothers: Ted (Deb) Thompson and Rob (Vicki) Thompson; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his fathers (Irving LeFever and Sam Thompson), two sons (Jason and Joshua LeFever), a daughter (Cara LeFever), and a sister (Karen Hunt).

The funeral service for David LeFever was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Interment followed in Rusk Cemetery with military honors.

1763 David Kent Frank, 70, of Evansville, IN, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017, at his home in Evansville. He was born March 9, 1947, in Clay City, IL, to the late Galen Frank and Inez (Holcomb) Neumann.

He earned his Real Estate license in 1995 at the University of Evansville, and his Associates Degree at IECC. Dave served his country in the U.S. Army on the European front. He was an avid scuba diver and enjoyed fishing with his grandkids. You would often find Dave tinkering on his truck, boating and water skiing. He was also known for his love of animals. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved joking with his grandkids, and he always looked forward to his daily lunches with his daughter, Brittany.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tabitha Frank; sisters, Beverly and Debbie Frank; niece, Sondra Schnepper; and best friend, James Partridge.

He is survived by sons, Kristo Altenon, Michael Frank (Kathy), Jason Frank; and daughters, Felicity Olivier (Tom) and Brittany Frank. Dave was married to Rose Dulaney of Flora, IL and later to his life-long companion, Crystal Frank. He is also survived by grandchildren, Trenton Frank, Garrett Frank, Vincent Frank, Blaise Roberts, Trishton Olivier, Aussie Olivier; great grandkids, Chandler and Blaise, Jr.; and brothers, Paul Neumann, Sam Frank, Bill Frank, Chris Frank, Richard Frank, Candra Frank; and sister, Naomi Frank Bangert.

Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City, IL, where Military Honors will be performed. Friends may visit 2-3 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. There will be a gathering to celebrate David's life following the services.

1767 David Leon Lister, age 72, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Saturday morning, February 4, 2023, at his home.

He was born October 30, 1950, in Flora, the son of Kenneth and Myrtle (Welch) Lister. He was united in marriage to Diane Josephine Arnold on October 30, 1971, in Flora and together they have shared 51 wedding anniversaries.

Dave served in the Army during Vietnam and was a member of the Clay City American Legion. He had worked for Roadmaster, Marathon, Sparton Manufacturing, and HELLA Electronics. He was a dedicated member of the Clay City Fire Department, serving several years as the Assistant Chief and spending countless hours at the station. Dave enjoyed time spent fishing, hunting, and trapping.

He is survived by his wife: Diane Lister of Clay City; 4 children: Kerry (Barton) Powers of Clay City, Kathy (Michael) Seals of Clay City, Mary (J.D.) Edgington of Clay City, and Michael Lister (Tabitha Fancher) of Flora; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister: Thelma (Art) Maglone of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother: Marvin (Pat) Lister of Phoenix, Arizona; and a sister-in-law: Anita (Melvin) Walker of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Drake Hill; siblings: Eileen (Harlen) Cochran, Kenneth Wayne Lister, and Glen Ray Lister; sisters-in-law: Judy Kocher and Theresa Thomas; mother and father-in-law: Theodore and Della Arnold; and a nephew: Rob Cochran.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. David was employed at Valley Steel for over 30 years. He was a long time member of the Flora Moose Lodge #1384.

David is survived by his sisters, Betty Curtis of Clay City, IL, Lydia (Carl) Taylor of Clay City, IL, Dixie (Bob) Harper of Flora, IL and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers Omar Gray and Robert Gray and by one sister Diana Gray.

A visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. for all friends and family on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Kohn Funeral Home, IL.

Inurnment will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hanna Cemetery in Noble, IL.

He worked for the railroad prior to joining the Navy and later built laundromats for Kerby and worked at Lincoln Auto Parts. He was a deputy for the Clay County Sheriff's Office, worked as an EMT for the Campbell and Clay County Ambulance Service, and was a dispatcher for the Flora Police Department. David enjoyed traveling, building and painting model cars, wood projects, and spending time with his special dog Boo Boo. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and Classic Rock music.

Born February 7, 1935 in Spokane, Washington to Dale and Florence Mildred (Rutter) Zannacker, she married Robert Francis Powell on May 1, 1952 in Pekin. He preceded her in death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Nate Thompson; one step-daughter, Pamela Holmberg; three brothers, Dale Zannacker of Oskosh Wisconsin, Robert Thompson and Jerry (Donna) Thompson both of Pekin.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Taylor and Susan K. Rasmussen, both of Pekin; two sons, Robert David (Becky) Powell and Mark Alan Powell, both of Pekin; and one brother, Rick (Janet) Thompson of Pekin.

She worked for Stafford's Dairy for many years and worked part time at various place's including Tremont Auto Auction for 14 years.

Dawn loved camping, traveling, playing cards, and needlework.

Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

1786 Dean Corry, 75, of Flora, IL died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:15 AM at his home in Flora.

He was born February 8, 1935 in Flora, one of twin boys born to John and Erma (Mann) Corry. Erma passed away 3 days after giving birth.

Dean graduated from high school in 1953. He worked in construction before joining the Aviation Branch of the U.S. Navy on March 6, 1956. Dean was assigned to Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA, Air Group 14, and attack squadron station 144 on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger CVA 61. It was during this time that he married his high school sweetheart, Deloris Kay Edwards, on June 8, 1957, in Flora. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2008.

Dean retired in February 2000, after serving 26 years with the Flora Police Department as a police dispatcher. Dean was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Flora and a member of the Beau Knot Sunday School Class. He taught Sunday School for 38 years, served as a decon for 12 years, an elder for 26 years, and was involved in the greeter ministry, baptismal ministry and communion ministry.

He is survived by 2 sons: Douglas Corry & wife Christie of Flora, John Corry & wife Marla of Carlyle;1 daughter: Kysa Epstein & husband David of Elgin; 1 brother: Gene Corry & wife Thelma of Flora; 9 grandchildren: Joslin, James, Alisha & Will Corry / Evan, Allyson & Trevor Corry / Lincoln & Luke Epstein; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 1 brother (Charles "Skip" Corry).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 15, 2010 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Kevin Able officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with military honors. He was born December 28, 1939 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of Robert and Ester (Wade) Michels.

He married Floella Leist on June 4, 1960 Olney, Illinois, and she survives.

Dean was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed working in his shop and gardening. He enjoyed catching fish and spending time with his grandchildren. Dean attended Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Dean is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Floella Michels of Olney; son, Kevin Michels and wife Dove of Ft. Branch, IN; son, Kim Michels and wife Trish of Springfield, IL; son, Kerry Michels and wife Maria of Olney; grandchildren, Kale (Nichole) Michels, Kendra (Sean) VanMatre, Lauren (Zach) Sanford, Seth (fiancee Lauren Buerster) Michels, and Larissa Michels; great grandchildren, Preston, Autumn, Sophie, and Gavin; and several nieces and nephews.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Carolyn Davis and Donna Strawbridge.

Memorials can be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney.

There will be a visitation on Sunday, March 8, 2020, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday March 9, 2020 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park.

1789 Dean O'Dell, age 72, of Ingraham, IL, passed away at 2:46 pm, Monday, December 2, 2013, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Dean was born Wednesday, February 12, 1941 in Cripple Creek, CO, the son of Harold and Winnie (James) O'Dell. On August 25, 1991 he was united in marriage to Rose Workman.

He enjoyed his time as a member of the American Legion of Sailor Springs and was a faithful member of the Holy Cross Church of Wendelin. He was employed by Hughes Aircraft of California as an engineer.

Dean is survived by wife, Rose O'Dell; sons, James, Matt, and Luke O'Dell; daughter, Charlotte Kirkpatrick; brothers, Chuck O'Dell and James O'Dell; sisters, Anna Barnett, Darlene Garroute, Laura Gearhart; 16 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother Walter O'Dell, sister Thelma O'Dell and infant sister Regina O'Dell.

Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, IL.

Funeral service will be held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin.

Interment to be at Brooks Cemetery, rural Ingraham, IL.

Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery.

He was born January 25, 1939 in Clay County, the son of Roy and Hattie Benskin Travis. He was never married.

Mr. Travis retired from working in the oil fields.

Survivors include a brother, Ray Travis of Clay City and several close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two half brothers and one half sister.

Funeral services were held at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City, with burial in Clay City Cemetery.

Married Vivian Burd in 1942; she died in 1956. Married Lillian Milburn on July 18, 1957, in Rockford. Employed 38 years as an agent for State Farm Insurance Co. Veteran of World War II, U.S., serving as U.S. Air Force staff sergeant. Member of Centennial United Methodist Church. Master Mason 50 years in Dedrick, IL and member of Civilian Conservation Corp. He was an avid hunter, gardener and fisherman.

Dean William Bryant Dec. 27, 1916 Dec. 7, 2005 Dean W. Bryant was born in Louisville, Illinois to Ray & Odessie M. Bryant (Kistner). He was one of six children and an identical twin raised on a small farm in southern Illinois. As a young man, he moved to Iowa to work as a farmhand. It was there that he met his future wife Geraldine B. Schneider of Cosgrove, Iowa. Within 30 days after the attack upon Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp to serve his country. Dean & Geri eventually found their way to Kern County where he was stationed at Minter Field during WWII. After the conclusion of the war, he began a career in the meat cutting business, eventually becoming half owner of Magunden Meat Locker. In the early 1980s, he decided to retire with 40+ years as butcher and began working part time for Aarons Home Center in the Plumbing Department. Dean was an avid bowler. He enjoyed all his friends and accomplishments tied to bowling, especially his plaques and trophies. A sports fan and grandfather, Dean also loved attending his great-grandsons sporting events. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Geraldine, twin brother Jean H. Bryant of Iowa, brother Ray H. Bryant of Utah, grandson Ron Bryant & wife Tyra, great grandsons Cole & Blake. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, brother Oscar, Sisters Leona Slagley, Dorothea McHenery, and son Ronald D. Bryant. Charles Percy Abbott Victim Of Tuberculosis of Stomach
Homer, April 23 — Charles Percy Abbott died at his home here this morning about 9 o'clock after a short illness of tuberculosis of the stomach. He was born Feb. 12, 1884 at Homer.
The decedent is survived by his mother, Mrs. E. Barnes, and the following brothers and sisters. Abe and Harry Abbott, of Homer; Reuben of Tolono; Roy and Benton, who are now in France; Mrs. William Ogelsby of the state of Washington; Mrs. Alice Jordan of Homer, and Mrs. Grace Bird of Champaign.
The funeral will be held from the home on Friday morning. Reverend McEwan will officiate. Burial will be made at the old Homer cemetery.

1795 Death came suddenly Sunday afternoon to Miss Bertha Heap, near Birds School. She was in attendance at the M. E. Sunday school when taken fatally ill of a brain affection and succumbed within five hours of blood clot. She was prior to her illness in good health. Heap, Bertha Alice (I25477)

1800 Death has again visited our community and taken from it one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens, Ed HASLER.

He was the last survivor of fourteen children of Casper and Catherine {MOSER} HASLER, and was born in Taylor Township, this county, October 10, 1853, and died at the home of his son, Verl HASLER, in the forenoon of May 17, 1937, aged eighty-three years, seven months and seven days.
