2001 Don Mayo, 78, of Brazil, Indiana, formerly of Clay City, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Exceptional Living Center, Brazil, Indiana.

Don was born August 10, 1936 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of J. W. "Casey" and Leone (Sullens) Mayo. He married Joyce Gaede on November 29, 1956. She preceded him in death on May 31, 1993.

Don was a retired teacher of the Clay City Elementary School.

He is survived by his son, Doug (Lisa) Mayo of Hamilton, OH; Son, Greg (Jane) Mayo of Cary, NC; Daughter, Gayla (Carl) Royer of Brazil, IN; Brother, Jerry (Gayla) Mayo of Clay City; Sister, Carolyn Martin of Flora, IL; Sister, Doris (Trevor) Bissey of Clay City, IL; Eight Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister, Rita Stanley, and one grandchild, Cody Mayo.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Clay City Cemetery.

2004 Don was a graduate of Flora High School and attended Southern Illinois University and Indiana Tech. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was an industrial engineer for several companies. After retirement, he took great pride in taking care of his yard and home. Family was important to Don, and he enjoyed attending get-togethers, and also spending time on the family farm. 2005 Don “Red” Kittle, age 88, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday evening, December 21, 2024, at his home.

He was born August 29, 1936, in Flora, the son of Lee and Pansy (Cooper) Kittle. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Henson on May 1, 1965, and together they have shared 59 years of marriage.

Don honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962 during the Vietnam Era. He had been employed by Trunkline Gas in Johnsonville, retiring after 25 years.

He is survived by his wife: Kathryn Kittle of Flora; 2 children: Teresa Kittle of Sheffield, Alabama, and Tony Kittle of Owensville, Indiana; 2 grandchildren; and a sister: Mary Ellen Ikemire.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Lawrence Kittle and Everett Kittle; and a sister: Geneva Block.

There will be no services. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospice, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.

2006 Dona G. Bissey, age 65, of Clay City, IL, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Montana, doing what she loved most.

She was born October 4, 1955, in Flora, Illinois, the daughter of Donald “Jake” and Marilyn J. (Gordon) Bissey.

Dona was employed at Hella Electronics in Flora. She had walked in 30 half-marathons, working towards her goal of completing them in all 50 states. She loved her dog companions Spurs and Lady.

She is survived by her children: Darlene (Jim) Coffin of Effingham, Jacque (Tom) Holsapple of Hidalgo, and Jacob Cowger of Newton; and 3 grandchildren: Jonathon Coffin, Sarah Coffin, and Rachel Coffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: David Bissey; a grandson: Mitchell Coffin; and special friend: Jack Wiley.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Zif Cemetery with Pastor Brad Harris officiating. Those attending should arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Friends of Kids with Cancer and will be accepted through the funeral home.

2007 Donald Alonzo Hamilton, age 87, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, May 16, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Flora.

Donald was born August 9, 1929, in Flora, the son of Lewis and Minnie (Coble) Hamilton. He married Galina O. Denning on September 7, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1992. He later married Barbara A. Pickens on January 15, 2000. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2014.

Donald worked in the oil fields for 38 years and Operators Engineer Union for 15 years. In his free time, he enjoyed singing at home and performing in front of small groups as well as spending time with family. He attended the Christian Church in Sailor Springs and also attended the Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City.

Donald is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Donna and Larry Milner; a sister: Leona Totten; step-sons: Nick Pickens (wife Marsha), Randy Pickens (wife Barb), and Sterling Pickens (wife Julie); seven grandchildren: Craig Lane, Chad Milner (wife Emily), Bruce Hamilton (wife Jenny), Chad Hamilton, Jared Hamilton, Chris Hamilton, and Larissa Hamilton; eight step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a son: Bruce Hamilton; a granddaughter: Jamie Hamilton; a step-great-grandson: Berklee Pickens; 4 brothers: Earl, Raymond, Clint, and Bud; and 4 sisters: Lena Colclasure, Violet Wheeler, Dorothy VanDyke, and Captola Barbee.

A funeral service for Donald Hamilton will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with a visitation from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pastor David Starr will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.

2008 Donald C. Kifer age 77 of Ste. Marie, IL and formerly of Walnut Ridge died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.

Don was born on October 30, 1932 in Otwell, Arkansas the son of the late Charles "Burt" and Ruby Nell (McClurg) Kifer.

He married Dosha Willene Rice on May 30, 1953, Don was a retired iron worker.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

Don served his country in the United States Air Force from December 20, 1950 until April 24, 1952.

Don is survived by his wife of 57 years Dosha Willene Kifer of Ste. Marie, IL; daughter, Donna (Matt) Barnett of Ste. Marie, IL; son, Terry Kifer of Hebron, IN; grandchildren, Jerry (wife Cindy) Mashburn; Shane (wife Amy) Mashburn; Brittany Barnett; Amanda Kifer and Jerry Pittman; 9 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Iona Smith of Augusta, GA; Two brothers, Paul (Jackie) Kifer of Pairs, IL and Tony (Sandy) Kifer of West Terre Haute, IN; Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends mourn his passing.

Funeral services celebrating Don's life were held at the Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Walnut Ridge. Internment was in Lawrence Memorial Park in Walnut Ridge with full military rites.

2009 DONALD E. BLACKWELL, 81, of Cisne, IL passed away 2:35AM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at his home.

Donald was born December 4, 1932 at Flora, IL to Eldon and Hazel (Blackwell) Reid. He married Marilyn R. Douthit May 25, 1957 at Carbondale, IL. She preceded him in death May 1, 2000.

Donald is a thirty year retiree from Caterpillar Tractor at Aurora, IL where he was an inspector and graphic artist. He enjoyed art, boxing, and cars. He served two years in the US Army in Field Artillery. Donald was a 1953 Flora High School graduate. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Southern Illinois University and his Master's Degree at Northern Illinois University. Donald was a member of the Moose Lodge, and the Elks Lodge at Flora, IL.

Donald is survived by one daughter Marilyn Donna (Brian) Bennett of Aurora, IL and one son Donald A. (Laura) Blackwell of Phoenix, AZ; one granddaughter Devin Rose Blackwell and two great grandchildren Vincent and Bunnie Rose.

Preceding him in death was his wife Marilyn and his parents.

Funeral service for Donald E. Blackwell will be noon on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Hosselton Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Cisne Cemetery. Visitation will be 10AM to time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

2010 Donald E. Covey, 90, of Effingham, IL formerly of Flora, IL died at 2:40 AM Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

He was born February 24, 1919 in Wapellla, IL to Cecil George & Iva H. (Lafferty) Covey. He married Lela Root on November 22, 1937 in Rushville, IL and she preceded him in death on February 25, 1995. He later married Elsie Bryan on December 14, 1995 in Clarksville, TN.

Don was a district sales manager for Moorman's of Quincy, IL. His memberships and interests include the following: First United Methodist Church of Flora, member and 32nd degree Mason of Flora Masonic Lodge #204, Consistory, Ainad Temple, Clay County Shrine Club, was a harness horse owner and racer from 1951-1993, a 50 year member of KIAM Rabbit Club and served as a judge and was a recognized authority on Champaign Breed, also worked and mentored many 4-H students throughout the years, authored many articles for the Illinois & National Rabbit Associations, scouted and signed by St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals and was assigned to Class C Baseball in Columbus, OH with the St. Louis Browns, and he had a lifelong interest in animal husbandry.

He is survived by his wife: Elsie Covey; children: Carol Osborn, Michael Covey, Shelley Wolter, Kevin Covey; step-children: Bill Bryan, Jill McDonald, Jan Bryan & Alan Peterson; brothers: Delvin and Francis Covey; sister: Mary Noseck; seven grandchildren, sic step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a sister (Catherine Covey), and step-son (Jim Bryan).

Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

2012 Donald Edward Ryker, 64, of Centralia, formerly of Clay City , passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in Chandler, OK. He was born on July 27, 1952 in Olney, IL, the son of Jesse Jr. and Dorothea Marie (Davis) Ryker.

Donald enjoyed fishing and traveling. He loved spending time with his family.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Deah Eckel Jones, Julia Finley, Crystal Hefner, Jessica Harland, Chrystal Brys, and Angelia Ryker; Son, David Ryan; Brothers, David (Shirley) Ryker, Doug (Pat) Ryker, Doran Ryker, Lee (Rhonda) Ryker; Sisters, Diane (Matt) Hylton, Donna Ryker, Deanna (Marvin) Kuhl, Mylene Ryker, Frances (Bill) Dehner, and Darren Ryker; several nieces and nephews, several grandchildren, and extended family.

2013 Donald Edward Stanley, 88, of Louisville died at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Mr. Stanley was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Hoosier Township, the son of Walter Peyton and Catherine (Van Houten) Stanley. He married Luanna Ellen Dillman Sept. 1, 1951 at Hoosier Baptist Church.

A farmer, Mr. Stanley was a member of the Clay County Farm Bureau and Ingraham Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Luanna; son, James Stanley; daughter, Jane Morris; sisters, Erma Blessman and Norma Lambert; grandchildren, Rachel Morris and Katie Morris; and great-grandchild, Jackson Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at Ingraham Christian Church, Ingraham with the Rev. Ron Payne officiating.

Burial was in Ingraham Cemetery, Ingraham.

2015 Donald Gray, 65, St. Charles, Mo., and formerly of West Salem, died Tuesday in Community Hospital in Geneva.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, with Bro. Dan Howell presiding. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery.

Mr. Gray was born Sept. 11, 1916 in Edwards County, the son of Norris and Esta (Brant) Gray. He married Vera Densmore Oct. 17, 1945 in West Salem and she survives.

He was a former railroad worker and a member of the West Salem American Legion.

Other survivors include two sons, Bob, Brookville, Pa. and Jim, Elgin; two foster sons, Donnie and Ronnie McDowell, both of Elgin; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Kaelin, Geneva and Mrs. Donna Roesch, St. Charles; two brothers, Raymond, Lodi, Wis., and Harold, Richmond, Va.; a sister Mrs. Ruby Buell, Mesa, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.

2017 Donald Heiden, 84, of Flora, IL formerly of Louisville, died December 21, 2004 in Effingham.

He was born December 12, 1920 in Clay County, the son of Carl W. and Louise K. Bergman Heiden. He married Irma V. Stacey July 25, 1942.

He was an oil field pumper, a member of First Christian Church of Grayville, and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Norman Heiden; two daughters, Connie Lewis and Mary Waller; a brother, Dale Heiden; three sisters, Mabel Traub, Florenc Griffy, and Dorothy Heiden; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son, two brothers, Howard and Norman, and a sister Bonnie McKinney.

Funeral services were held at Neal Funeral Home with burial in Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

Military rites were given at the funeral home.

2019 Donald L. Lewis, age 70, of Clay City, IL died at 5:20 PM Monday, March 5, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born January 7, 1942 in Clay County, IL to Eldo and Eva (Hurd) Lewis. He married Martha Sparlin on October 18, 1958 in Fairfield, IL. Don was the owner of Lewis Drilling in Clay City and enjoyed the rough and tough life of the oilfield. He also enjoyed gardening and mushroom hunting, and was a past member of the Eagles.

He is survived by his wife: Martha Lewis; mother: Eva Lewis; four sons: Donnie, James, Richard, and Mark Lewis; a daughter: Tammy (Dewayne) Coughlin; two brothers: Larry Lewis and Gary Lewis; two sisters: Debbie Jones and Jane Priest; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, a daughter (Teresa Lewis Bentley), and a brother (Mike Lewis).

The funeral service for Don Lewis was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

Burial was in Bloom Cemetery.

2020 Donald Lee Brant, 65, of Clay City, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Brant was born May 4, 1941, in Clay County, the son of Johnnie M. and Ina C. (Lewis) Brant. He married Lou Anna Cox on February 15, 1962. She survives.

He had recently retired as a cost accountant for North American Lighting in Flora. He was a member of Ingraham Christian Church but attended Clay City Christian Church. He was a member of Star Chapter 229 Motorcycle Club in Effingham.

Mr. Brant is survived by his wife, Lou Anna Brant, of Clay City; parents, Johnnie and Ina Lewis, of Clay City; daughter, Tina Lynn Patton and her husband, Jonathan, of Rockport, Ind.; sons, David Lee Brant and his wife, Sheryl, of Cisne, and John Michael Brant, of Urbana; brothers, Dean Brant and his wife, Donna, of Louisville, and Dennis Brant and his wife, Janet, of Fairfield; and grandchildren, Carmen Marie Wedding, Corey Patton Inman and Lexi Jo Brant.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Minister Carson Root officiating.

Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery.

2021 Donald M. Caudle, 60 yrs, of Zenith, died early Thursday morning in Fairfield. He was a security guard at Southwire in Flora. Mr. Caudle was born 26 June 1917 in Zenith, the son of Bryan and Golda (Vaughn) Caudle. He married the former Maxine Smith in Zenith of 5 July 1941. She survives. Before going to work at South wire, Caudle was employed as a custodian at the Orchardville Grade School for several years and also worked at the International Shoe Co, Flora. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the RLDS Brush Creek Church, Zenith, with Elder Stanley Greathouse officiating. Burial will be Harrell Cemetery, Zenith.

Besides his wife, Caudle is survived by his mother, Mrs. Golda Caudle of Johnsville; two daughters, Mrs. John (Donna) Adkins of Columbia, MO, and Mrs. Leon (Sue) Benett of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Mrs. Bernard (Colleen) Talbert of Cisne, and three granddaughters

2022 Donald M. Craig, 76, of Clay City, IL died at 12:22 PM Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Clay County Hospital in Flora, IL.

He was born June 16, 1933 in Dundas, IL to Ray & Goldie (Hartleroad) Craig. He married Ramona (Imboden) Fleehardy in 1964 and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2009.

Don worked at AMF in Olney and more recently was a janitor at OCC. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Flora Odd Fellows Lodge.

He is survived by 3 step-sons; 1 step-daughter; 1 brother: Norman Craig & wife Doris of Olney; 1 sister: Beverly Ryberg & husband Tom of The Villages, FL; several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Services will be held at a later date with burial in Dundas Cemetery, Dundas, IL.

2024 Donald R. Young, 74, of Louisville, IL died at 1:20 AM, Sunday, February 8, 2009 at his residence.

Don was born on March 1, 1934 to Charlie & Sarah (Sehie) Young in Clay County, Illinois. He married Melba McCommons on October 15, 1953 in Flora, IL.

Don worked as a cabinet maker at Valberts in Flora, then later moved to Oswego, IL with Valberts. Afterwards, he worked in the maintenance department of Kendall County in Yorkville, IL. He retired in 1994.

After his retirement Don enjoyed woodworking, auctions, going to and participating in car shows, camping and cooking.

Don was an Army Veteran and served the United States during the Korean War. He is also a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Flora.

Don is survived by his wife: Melba Young; children: Teresa Wackerlin and Rex Young; seven grandchildren: Heather Smith, Kelly Canada, Brock Wackerlin, Drew Wackerlin, Jamie Wackerlin, Jason Young, Cassandra Young; five great grandchildren; a brother: Jerry Young; two nephews; and two great nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a son Glenn Young, and a infant sister Betty Young.

Funeral Services for Mr. Young was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

Burial was in Kneff Cemetery with military honors.

2025 Donald Robert Sager, 87, of Parkersburg, passed away at 11:03 PM on Friday, October 22, 2021 at his residence.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 AM on Thursday, October 28, 2021 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in Claremont. Donald was born on April 5, 1934 in Lawrence County, the son of Cecil and Dessie Rae (Poland) Sager. He later married Kathy Burget on May 13, 1956 in Sumner. She survives.

He was in the United States Army. He owned his own gas station while he lived in Michigan for some years and also owned the NAPA store on Whittle Ave in Olney for several years. He loved cars, going to car shows, and anything that had to do with cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his wife Kathy Sager of Parkersburg; 2 sons Carl Sager (Joan) of Claremont and Michael Sager (Karen) of West Salem; 2 sisters-in-law Dorothy Stice of Casey and Vivian Emmons of Lawrenceville; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Dessie Rae Sager, son Kevin Sager, brother Leroy Sager and sister Josephine Ulrich, and great-granddaughter Nova.

Memorials can be sent to the American Cancer Society in memory of Donald Robert Sager.

Donald Roy "Duck" Herdes was born June 2, 1959 in Flora, IL, the son of CJ Herdes and Eva Grace Herdes (Wyatt). He was united in marriage to Trudi L. Weber on July 1, 1978, in Wendelin, and together they have shared 46 years of marriage.



Many people knew Don as "Duck". He owned and operated his own oilfield company, Herdes, Inc., for over 45 years. He also owned Ducks Sporting Goods and shot professionally for Browning archery.



Don raised and owned horses for 20 years and also team penned. He stood two American Paint Horse Association (APHA) registered stallions.



Donald also enjoyed trapshooting and was a life member of the Amatuer Trapshooting Association. In 2012 he won the Grand American Handicap Championship in a field of over 2000 competitors in Sparta, IL. For several years he was in the top 20 of singles averages in the State of IL. More recently he has been mentoring young trapshooters at the County Line Rod and Gun Club.



Donald was an avid hunter and enjoyed whitetail deer and coyote hunting. He also took pleasure in riding around in his side-by-side with his wife and watching his hunting dogs.



Of all the accomplishments in his life, Donald was most proud of his family.



Donald is survived by wife, Trudi Herdes of Noble; daughter, Valerie (Jeff) Bunting of Albion; son, Calvin (Jessica) Herdes of Noble; daughter, Alison (Jesse) Harvey of Louisville, IL; grandchildren, Cali and Cate Bunting of Albion; Wyatt, Waylon, and Clara Harvey of Louisville, IL; Sawyer Herdes of Noble; siblings, Donna (Larry) Oaster of Maryville, IL; Dena Fulk of Noble; Dennis (Diane) Herdes of Noble; Darla Means of Newton; father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Georgianna Weber of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.



Don is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, JR Means and Roy Fulk.



Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.



Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney. Another time for Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM prior to the funeral service on Thursday morning.



The Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Jan 2nd, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney.



Interment will take place following the service on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Holy Cross Cemetery.

2027 Donald S. Myers, 94, formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away April 30, 2012, at The Birches in Clarendon Hills, Ill. He was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Sugar Grove, the son of the late Nelson and Stella (Seavey) Myers.

Don served his country during WWII with the US Army Air Corps as a flight instructor. He earned his master's degree from Northern Illinois University and was employed with Kaneland School District before moving on to teach at McCleery Elementary School, where he retired in 1970.

He also enjoyed working at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, Wesley United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church as choir director over the years. After retirement, Don worked as a woodworker and weaver at Hackley House Antiques in Phelps, Wis., a shop he owned and ran with his wife of nearly 71 years, Mary Jean Stanton.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jean Myers; his daughters, Margaret (Lynn Schreiner) Gramley of Elgin, Ill., and Elizabeth (Bill) Chalberg of Downers Grove, Ill.; his grandchildren, Philip (Christine) Gramley, Steven (Leanne) Gramley, Jack Chalberg, Cassie Chalberg, George (Audrey) Chalberg and Bill (Sarah) Chalberg Jr.; his great grandchildren, Robert Gramley, Lillian Gramley, Keegan Chalberg, Connor Chalberg and Grace Chalberg; his sister, Phyllis Leighton of Tempe, Ariz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Goodfellow.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 176 Main St., Sugar Grove. Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. at the church until the time of service. Interment will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Donald was born Monday, April 1, 1935 in Clay County, IL, the son of the late Leland O'Dell and the late Bessie (Abel) O'Dell. He married Mary Lewis on August 4, 1962 in Clay County, IL.

He was employed by Best Homes in Effingham as a carpenter.

Donald is survived by wife, Mary H. 2033 Donald “Don” Frank Lusk Sr., age 89, of Flora, Illinois, went to his heavenly home at 9:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.

Don was born February 3, 1927, in Flora, the son of Frank A. and Anna M. (McLaughlin) Lusk. He married Norma Jean Roush on September 10, 1947. She preceded him in death on February 17, 1992.

Don was a life-long farmer and bi-vocational pastor. He pastored churches at Sailor Springs, Ingraham, Cisne, and Arrington Prairie, and was a member and deacon of the former Oak Street Baptist Church. Don served many years as Chairman of the Clay County Singing Convention and the Walk For Jesus. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the European Theatre, and was a member of the American Legion and a 50 year member of the Masons. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

He is survived by his daughters: Linda (Larry) Cook of Valier and Cindy Lou (Ronnie) Tate of Salem; sons: Donald Frank (Ruth Ann) Lusk Jr. of Sullivan and Bill (Brenda) Lusk of Flora; 11 grandchildren: Angie (Jeff) Edgmon, Emily Cook, Heidi (Dustin) Hackney, Daniel (Elle) Lusk, Peter (Mychele) Lusk, Christy (Brad) Hamilton, Frank (Kim) Lusk, Brad (Christy) Lusk, Jennifer (Dusty) Lewis, Donna Jean Kresch, and Mark Kresch (friend Chrystal); 29 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: John (Judy) Lusk of Flora and Kenneth (Linda) Lusk of Dunlap; sister-in-law: Vernal Roush of Flora; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral service will be at 2 PM on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the North Freedom Baptist in Noble. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.

Burial will be in the North Freedom Cemetery in Noble. Mr. Bob Totten will be officiating.

Donna was born on March 29, 1947 in Olney, the daughter of John and Laverne (Mason) Brant.

She later married Willard Hunley on March 14, 1964 in Olney. He survives.

She was a homemaker for many years. She attended Calhoun Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially children and grandchildren. In her free time she enjoyed playing Bingo. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Donna is survived by her husband Willard Hunley of Olney; son Kelly Hunley of Parkersburg; 2 daughters Kasey Foerster (John) of Olney and Karla Hunley of Chauncey; 6 grandchildren Blake Rogers, Joey Rogers, Aaron Foerster, Nick Foerster, Brianna Foerster and Keljin Hunley; 5 great-grandchildren Jaxson Rogers, Dixie House, Miranda Pennington, Railyn Pennington and Harper Foerster; and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ms. Herdes was born August 2, 1932, in Clay County, the daughter of Earl Monroe and Lelia May (Mitchel) Herdes.

Donna enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She was a lifelong member of Sailor Springs Christian Church.

2036 Donna Jean Uebinger, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at her home in Flora.

Donna was born on June 20, 1936 in Xenia, Illinois, the daughter of Edgar and Lelia (Rush) Lee. She married James L. Uebinger on June 3, 1956 in Flora. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2015.

Donna was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Flora, sharing her musical talents, playing the piano and organ for many years. She passed her love of music on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed writing, contributing articles for the newspaper, and writing her blog. She also enjoyed camping as a member of the “Lucky Ramblers” camping club.

Earlier in her life, she worked as a legal secretary for several prominent area attorneys before focusing her attention as owner/operator of three successful area businesses with her husband Jim. They retired in 2004 to relax and travel while maintaining their roots in the Clay County community.

Donna is survived by her children: Brad L. Uebinger, Shari S. (Uebinger) Harvey and husband Jeff, James B. “Brent” Uebinger and wife Tammy; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister: Ruby (Lee) Warren of Flora; and a brother: Robert “Bob” Lee of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and one sister.

2037 Donna K. (York) Luke, 73, of Olney passed away on Thursday, July 12th, 2018, at 9:57 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Donna was born July, 15th, 1944 in Chauncey, IL to Alice 'Tommy' (York) Coan. She married John Luke on June 8th, 1968 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Calhoun, IL.

Donna was loved by many. She was a homemaker and full-time aunt. She was active in the lives of her many nieces and nephews, babysitting, attending their school events, and collecting each newspaper article they were in. She enjoyed collecting bears and snowmen, going to rummage sales and feeding the neighborhood cats.

Donna will be missed and remembered by her husband of 50 years, John Luke; father, John R. Coan; sisters, Becky Davis and Jo Ann Coan; brother, Gregory Coan; nieces and nephews, Tabatha (Zack) Slater, Angela (David) Zuber, Destini Coan, Noah Perry, Hunter Perry, Emma Slater, John Slater, Koy Stevens, and Luke Slater, all of Olney.

Mrs. Donna Kay Dunn DeJaynes, 76 of Abingdon, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born February 5, 1946, in Galesburg, the daughter of Jesse and Mildred Mary (Edmonson) Dunn. She married Edward "Snook" DeJaynes on December 9, 1980, in Abingdon and he survives.

Also, surviving is one son, Josh (Tara) DeJaynes of Abingdon; one daughter, Tracy Johnson of North Henderson; a daughter-in-law, Jolene Johnson of Branson, Missouri; two stepsons, Ron DeJaynes and Chuck DeJaynes both of Galesburg; one stepdaughter, Lynn Estep of Warsaw, Indiana; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Cecil) Dunn of Spokane, Washington; one sister, Sandra (Monte) Voss of rural Galesburg; one sister-in-law, Kathy (Daryl) Alderman of Peoria; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, William "Billy" Johnson, three brothers, and five sisters.

Donna grew up in Galesburg and attended Galesburg schools. She lived most of her adult life in Abingdon. She worked as a CNA doing home healthcare, retiring from Cottage Hospital in 2011. She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardening, and feeding and watching the birds. But most of all she loved her family, especially the grandchildren. Snook said, "Donna was a very strong and amazing woman".

As she requested, cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, the family will receive relatives and friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.

Ms. Brassie was born August 26, 1938 in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd Brassie and Iva Turner.

Donna worked many years for Motorolla and later retired as a social worker for DCFS in the State of Illinois.

She is survived by her daughter, Tana Yingst of Robinson, IL; sisters, Sandra Pennington of Searcy, AR, Karen Osborn of Searcy, AR, and Linda Johnson of Champaign, IL; brother, Robert Brassie of Willis, TX; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

2040 Donna Rae Christy Petty, 83, formerly of Hutchinson, died at her home at Reflection Ridge Retirement in Wichita, November 23, 2020. She was born on April 7, 1937 to Frank and Ada (Clothier) Christy. She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and married Clinton Petty, June 15, 1957. She was a lifelong homemaker, a member of Northside Church of Christ, Wichita and a former member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.

Donna spent her life caring for others and bringing laughter to the room. She loved playing games, telling stories, and making up funny words to make her grandchildren giggle. She was known for her chicken and noodles and homemade rolls and was born with a green thumb. Her real gift was loving the broken hearted and discouraged. She learned early in life she could lift other’s spirits by her words, antics, prayers, and hugs. Her grandchildren enjoyed special times of spoiling in her home. She was self-disciplined in her healthcare and lived a long life because of it and the power of prayer.

Donna grew up working in her dad Frank’s barbershop on A and later B Streets in Hutchinson. She worked at Kress Drugs at the soda fountain in high school and later for Week’s Drug after graduation. She soon met the love of her life, Clint Petty who has based at the Naval Air Station. They were married for 63 years and life took them to Key West, FL, Hutchinson (3 times), Topeka, Wichita, Great Bend, Dodge City, Enid, OK and Houston, TX, collecting lifelong friends along the way.

She is survived by her husband of the home. Her son, Chuck (Karen) of Macksville and daughter, Molly (Robert) Heyen of Houston, Texas. Her grandchildren, Steve (Kristin) Petty, Gary (Jessica) Petty and Nicole Petty, all of St. John. Richard Petty, Great Bend. Elizabeth (Matt) Baur, St. Paul, MN, Natalie (Reid) Stafford, Memphis, TN, Jared Heyen and Konrad Heyen, both of Houston, TX, and six Great-Grandchildren. Special friend, Mary Harrold and Hospice caregivers, Raquel, Amy, and Tonya.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved older sister, Frances Paulk(1931-2012).

Private family services will be held Sunday, November 29 at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Robert Heyen, officiating. Interment will be at Peace Creek Cemetery. 2041 Donna’s warm spirit and strong faith is carried on through the adoring and supportive relationships she had with her family and friends, and especially her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Ina." When her grandkids took part in a sporting event or activity, they could count on her attendance and wholehearted encouragement and lively participation. She had worked in clerical and stenography positions, including for JW Rudy, and confirmed that you should never stop learning throughout life when she enrolled in an associate degree program in cosmetology and celebrated both a graduation and her 60th birthday.

Donna was a member of the Clay City First Baptist Church where she served as longtime Sunday School teacher for youth and adults, and as Clerk and Treasurer. She was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed fishing, and liked to visit new places, serving as a travel guide for B-Jay Travel and JD Transit.

He was the son of Hubert C. and Ellarea Harrison Moseley.

On June 20, 1965, he married Margaret H. Petty in Clay City, Illinois.

Ray entered the pest control industry and later became manager of Springfield Terminix. He served two terms as president of the Illinois Pest Control Association and was honored with the Distinguished Service Award before retiring December 2008. He was active in the AIM Class at West Side Christian Church in Springfield.

2043 Donnell's eyes were very blue. His hair was dark brown. He was 5'10" tall. He had medium-to-dark complexion. He was slim in build.

He went by Donnell. At a very young age, Donnell had tuburculosis, and had to be in a TB hospital for many months.
Donnelle was known for his quick whit and humor, and loved to tease.
Donnelle was brilliant with numbers and could out beat anyone in a game of chess due to his ability to think his opponents next moves.

He resided in Clay County, Illinois prior to the war.

On the 30 April 1945, the 394th Bomb Squadron took off from Guiuan Air Strip, Samar Island, Philippine Islands, for a combat bombing mission on Davao, Mindanao Island, Philippine Islands. The flight to, and over the target, was successful. After they had completed dropping there bombs, they proceeded toward Morotai Island, in the Molucca Islands, where they planned to land.

They were approximately thirty miles from Morotai Island, near Race Island, flying in their usual formation, when two of the airplanes in the formation collided. B-24M Serial No. 44-41869 and B-24L Serial No. 44-41541. The collision damaged both planes severely, causing them to crash into the ocean immediately. There were no survivors on either aircraft, and only one of the bodies was recovered, that of F/O Arthur B. Sobol, T-128 478, after a through search had been made by surface craft and low flying search aircraft.

Donovan was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

2047 Dora Lou Weston Akes, 68, of Olney, died at 9:26 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Mrs. Akes was born October 26, 1941, in Richland County, the daughter of Russell Otho and Clara Alice (Galloway) Weston.

She married Howard "Shorty" Akes on December 7, 1966. He survives.

She retired from Champion Laboratories in West Salem.

Mrs. Akes is survived by her son, Russell Dilley and his wife, Brenda, of West Salem; daughter, Candie Belcher and her husband, Mike, of Olney; son, John Dilley and his wife, Shella, of Albion; daughter, Tammie Yealick and her husband, Terry, of Olney; son, Howard Akes I; brother, Billy Weston and his wife, Janice, of Calhoun; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Otho and Clara Alice Weston; son, Howard Akes Jr.; brothers, Larry and Bobby Weston; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Kidney Foundation.

2048 Doran E. "Pete" Ryker, 67 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City. Mr. Ryker was born the 4th of 11 children, to the late Jesse Eugene Ryker, Jr. and Dorthea Marie Davis Ryker, in Flora, Illinois. Pete had made his home in Lake City for the past four years having previously lived in Dallas, Texas and numerous other cities. Mr. Ryker was an accomplished aircraft mechanic with 50 years of experience in aviation. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and man, who most would say, had the biggest heart, always wanting to help out others without expecting anything in return. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald E. "Donnie" Ryker.

Survivors include his two daughters, Dorylynn Sullivan, Helena, MT and Ayla Norris, Ft. Lupton, CO; four brothers, David Ryker (Shirley), Advance, MO, Paul D. "Doug" Ryker (Patricia), Branford, FL, Lee Ryker (Rhonda), Flora, IL and Darren Ryker, Lake City; five sisters, Diane Hilton (Matt), Columbus, OH, Donna Ryker, Olney, IL, Deena Ryker, Flora, IL, Mylene Ryker, Jacksonville, FL and Frances Dehner (Bill), Olney, IL; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with his brother, Mr. Lee Ryker, officiating.

Dorine Pearcy, 77, of Zion and formerly of Westfield, Illinois, died on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion, Illinois. Dorine was born November 25, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. She had lived in Johnsonville, Illinois and Westfield, Illinois before moving to Zion 10 years ago. She was a member of Westfield Baptist Church. Dorine worked approximately 20 years for Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County, Illinois. Later she worked in private homes in Lake Forest, Illinois as a caregiver. Survivors include two sons Austin (JoEllen) Kelley of Zion and Terry (Jill) Kelley of Greenup, Illinois; twelve grandchildren Heather Cummins, Heidi (Christopher) Daniels, Terri Kelley, Janie Wilkin, Barbara Kelley, Chad Pearcy, Stacie (Tom) Winings, Ralph Pearcy II, Tonya (Shane) Oakley, Stephine Chapman, Ryan Keller and Aaron Keller; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Vivian (Wayne) Simpson of Donavan, Missouri; one niece Cheryl (Clyde) Cokely of Gibson City, Illinois; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Grover; one son Ralph Pearcy; her daughter-in-law Julia Spaulding; one nephew Jason Hipes; one sister Levera Hipes; and her parents Ralph and Goldie Bricker. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A visitation will also be held at Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, 720 Monroe Avenue, Charleston, Illinois on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13th, at 10:00 a.m. at Harper Swickard Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Charleston, Illinois. Memorial donations to STAR Hospice have been suggested.
