3101 | gain along the busy walks of life a halt has been called, once more from its busy stage another soul has stepped off, and by its leaving, a home has become dark and sad. The subject of this sketch, Charles Clifford ASDELL, second son of David and Clara ASDELL, was born in Scotland, Greene County, November 15, 1897. He was one of a family of five children, three boys and two girls, and by his early departure, the first break in the family is recorded. Several years ago he united with the United Presbyterian Church at Scotland, and in which faith he lived a consistent Christian life. The immediate cause of his death dates back to October 15, 1910, while enjoying a game of ball as a spectator, and while sitting on the ground with others, he was struck on the head by a foul ball, fracturing the skull. Although for ten days he did not seem to suffer any inconvenience, but gradually the unseen symptoms began to manifest themselves, and his vitality becoming weaker day by day, until June 14, 1916, he went to sleep, That sleep, which knows no awakening on earth, aged eighteen years, five months and twenty-nine days. Clifford was a boy who always looked on lifes bright side, never complaining of his condition and when paralysis set in the same smile was to be seen. One year of this young life was spent in Odon, where it was highly valued for its honesty and its willingness to serve. Clifford knew the end was near, and the day before he left them, recognizing the kiss of the Father, he raised his hand in approval and then sank into unconsciousness. By his going he leaves a sad and lonely father and mother, two sisters, Fonnie and Marguarite, and two brothers, Clarence and Leland, besides many relatives and friends to mourn is departure. | Asdell, Charles Clifford (I47246)

The car was driven by Neil Jorgenson, 21 of Noble, IL. According to city police, who investigated the fatal accident, the car, a 1953 Ford, was passing a truck, driven by Tom Bowling of Olney, on Route 130 near Hollister St., just south of the B & O viaduct. The car collided head-on with the bicycle, being operated by young Harmon. The bicycle was traveling south and the car was proceeding north. The bike hit the car near the right front bumper and fender. The Harmon boy was thrown into the air and then struck the windshield of the Jorgenson auto. The victim was then thrown into a ditch, apparently as Jorgenson applied the brakes. Harmon was rushed to the Richland Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where the injuries proved fatal a short time after arrival. 3125 | Gary Bruce Pruitt, age 66, of Olney, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2023, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Gary was born on February 28, 1957, in Flora, to the late Evelyn G. Pruitt. Throughout his life, Gary was a steadfastly devoted and caring son to his mom, who passed away in 2016. A graduate of Flora High School Class of 1975, he later worked in the oil fields and, for a time, sold real estate in Michigan for Coldwell Banker. He often enjoyed opportunities to go fishing and sometimes participated in fishing tournaments. Gary was a people person, known for his easygoing nature, hearty laughter, and knack for spinning a pretty good yarn. Cookouts and picnics were his happy places and the perfect chance to relax and visit. Gary was also someone who often struck up conversations with complete strangers at restaurants, almost always finding something in common to chat about from table-to-table.
