3203 | George Rumsey, 91, of Olney, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. George was born on February 8, 1928 in Harrisburg, IL, the son of George Luther and Lucy Ivy (Taylor) Rumsey. George was an educational leader for over thirty-five years. He served districts in Christopher, Illinois and Clay City, Illinois prior to beginning his twenty-two year tenure as high school principal at East Richland High School in Olney (1965-1987). George enlisted in the US Navy during World War II, and actively served in the South Pacific as well as Japan. Upon returning stateside, he worked his way toward a final career choice within the field of education. During his preparation to serve as an educator, George was inducted as a charter member of the Iliana Phi Delta Kappa fraternity, an honor reserved for educational achievement. George Rumsey is best remembered for his committed service and leadership as an Illinois educator. In addition to serving as principal of ERHS, George also served on the Illinois State Committee for North Central School Accreditation, the Illinois High School Athletic Commission, president of the Wabash Secondary School Principals Association, and director for Region IV of the Illinois Principals Association. George retired from his principals position in 1987 and was elected to serve two terms on the Richland County Board and also served as an Olney City Councilman for three terms. He was an active member of Olney Southern Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also a member of the local American Legion and VFW. George married Barbara (Beaver) Rumsey on April 2, 1955. Two sons were born to that union, Michael Darce Rumsey of Troy, IL and Paul David Rumsey of Bristol, TN. Barbara passed from this life in July of 1988. George later married Nancy (Huchel) Murbarger on December 18, 1993. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rumsey of Olney, sons Michael Rumsey (Teri), Paul Rumsey (Brenda), step-children, Michelle (Russ) Weiler, Melissa (Tom) Gamboe and Michael Tug Murbarger; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or Tiger Pride Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Full Military Rites will be performed at the funeral home. George had been a charter member and trustee of the Village United Methodist Church in North Lauderdale, Florida, and after returning to Illinois in retirement, he and Nancy became members of Flora First United Methodist Church. George enjoyed working on computers, spending time gardening, and attending family reunions. For the past ten years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Cleo Sullens. He had been in ill health for several years and had been confined to his bed for the past two weeks. In his earlier years he professed faith in Christ and united with the Christian church, remaining faithful to the end. He was united in marriage to Mary Brassfield March 3, 1888, who preceded him in death August 7, 1910. To this union was born seven children, two sons, Muriel and Floyd, and a daughter Blanche having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure, two sons, Arch and Hiram; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Conour and Mrs. Edna Sullens; a grand daughter, Leone Sullens, besides a host of relatives and friends. 3212 | George Mick Harris of Mt. Olive, Illinois, passed away at 5:33 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, Illinois. He was 74 years young at his passing. Mick was born on September 2nd, 1946 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Lloyd Russell Harris and Erma Frances (Batchelor) Harris. He attended grade school in Sailor Springs, Illinois and later graduated from Clay City high school in 1964. He married Trudy Lynn (Gordon) Harris from Clay City in September 1966. Mick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Trudy, their son Scott (Kelly) Harris of Huntsville, Alabama, his sister Linda Davidson and three brothers Wayne (Josephine), Fred (Peggy), Tom (Gayle) Harris, all residing in Sailor Springs, Illinois, and two grandchildren Zach (Katie) and Abigail Harris of Huntsville, Alabama. He was preceded in death by both parents. Mick was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the Army as an infantryman from 1966-1968. He returned safely from his tour just weeks before the 1968 Tet Offensive initiated leading to heavy casualties suffered within his former unit, 3-21st,196th Light Infantry Brigade. He had attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5) prior to receiving an honorable discharge. He went on to a 30-year career with UPS as package delivery driver covering both Staunton and Bunker Hill, Illinois. He was inducted into their "Circle of Honor" for never having an accident over that entire period. He was an avid bass fisherman and hunter (quail, pheasant, and deer). Mick was an early and long-time member of the Gillespie Bass Club, winning a number of tournaments, angler of the year, and served as a club officer. Upon retirement he helped his brothers on the family farm until suffering a stroke almost 10 years ago. Graveside services will take place at Clay City Cemetery, Clay City Illinois on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 11 a.m. Deacon Don Woods will be officiating. Military Funeral Honors by the Clay City and Sailor Springs American Legion Post. Masks and social distancing will be required. The service will be recorded and posted to his obituary tribute wall. She was married to Charles Curtis Pollard Jr. on November 25, 1948. They enjoyed 68 years together before his death in 2016. Their last 20 years were spent in Valdosta, GA., where they had many wonderful friends. She was also preceded in death by her son, Curtis Edward Pollard; her father, Russell Maxwell, her mother, Esther (nee Hemme) Maxwell Stemmley, and her beloved step-father, Lawrence Stemmley. Surviving are her children, Amy (Jim) Bramstedt of Fairview Heights, Il., Michael (Susan) Pollard of Highland, Il., Marie (Jerry) Bramstedt of Kansas City, Mo., daughter-in-law, Patty Pollard of Belleville, Il. Surviving siblings are Lawrence J. Stemmley Jr. of Waterloo, Il., and Jenny Ann Copeland of Bland, Mo. Georgia was born May 31,1929 in Clay County, the daughter of Rosalia "Sally" (Iffert) Rudolphi. She married Lawrence Klingler on January 24, 1953, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2004. Georgia received her Nursing Diploma from St. Anne's School of Nursing in Chicago. She worked as a surgical nurse at St. Mary's in East St. Louis until she married, when she and Lawrence made their home on the farm in Passport. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, where she was an organist and choir director for many years. In 2009, she became an Associate for the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. Georgia was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for many people especially making wedding attire. She also enjoyed volunteering for the American Cancer Society and worked as a school nurse part time as needed. Georgia is survived by five sons, a daughter, daughter-in-law, 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, mother, Sally, son Kenneth, grandson, Jay, and great grandchildren, Reese and Joshua; Siblings, Angela Richard and Michael Rudolphi; Infant siblings, George, Henry, and Susan Rudolphi; She was also preceded in death by her Aunt, Sister Josephine, who was more like a sister to her. Mrs. Dale was born April 28, 1923, in Xenia, the daughter of Loren and Edna (Pennington) Henson. She was one of 10 children. She married William M. Dale. He preceded her in death in 1977. She was a retired business co-owner and operator, along with her husband, Bill Dale, of Dale Printing and Office Supplies. She was known for her warm smile and friendliness to customers young and old. She was a longtime faithful member of Elm Street Christian Church. She taught Sunday School classes in her earlier years there. His remains will be returned to Olney for his final resting place with his parents and one sister. Mr. Petty was born on March 3, 1943, in Olney, the son of Harl and Alta May Petty. He moved to New York before settling down in Ocala in 1995. He was a retired automotive mechanic and was employed at Silver Springs Park until his death. Mr. Petty is survived by a loving companion of 19 years, Geraldine Hursell; a son, Gary Petty, of New York; three daughters, Jennifer Lubjli, of Orlando, Fla., Tracey Larque and stacy O'Toole, both of New York; two brothers, William "Bill" Petty and his wife, Neva, of Noble, and Clint Petty and his wife, Donna, of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Sue Lenear and her husband, Virgil, of Olney; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. 3223 | Gerald Eugene Wilson, 85, of Olney, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services will be Friday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home with Minister Carson Root officiating. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery in rural Wayne County. Mr. Wilson was born on February 15, 1918 in Wayne County, the son of Glenn and Alice (Daubs) Wilson. He married Ninetta Lutz on June 22, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1957. He later married Geneva (Mitchell) McDowell on August 2,1958. She survives. He was a retired farmer and a member of Clay City Christian Church in Clay City. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Geneva Wilson, of Olney; two sons, Darrell Wilson and his wife, Margie of Clay City, and Brigadier General James K. Wilson and his wife, Karen, of Fairborn, Ohio; two daughters, Dorothy Lane and her husband, Stanley, of Heyworth, and Vanessa Wilson; two step-daughters, Vivian Brooks, of Dallas, Texas, and Barbara Shock, of Salem; and 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. 3224 | Gerald F. Blank, 82, of Noble, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, surrounded by family at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL. He was born to Raymond and Martha (Schneider)Blank on May 2, 1939 in Stringtown. He married Linda (Weidner) Blank on January 26, 1974. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2021. Gerald served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1961-66. He was strong in his Catholic faith and attended Holy Cross Church in Wendelin. Gerald also had a very strong work ethic. He worked for Dolls Inc. in Olney for 50+ years. He retired in 2019. He was a favorite of many customers over the years and never forgot those he met along the way. Gerald is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Greg)Amerman, Cheryl (Dallas) Colwell, and Cindy Blank all of Noble. Grandsons, Kyle Amerman and special friend, Jenny, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Amerman, Luke Colwell, and Jack Colwell all of Noble. Great Granddaughters, Emmalee, Amyah and Allie, and one brother, Jim (Carolyn) Blank of Olney, many brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda, nephews, Derek and Nate, great-niece, Elizabeth. Gerald was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, loved Bluegrass music and loved to watch his grandsons play sports, especially Olney Tiger Football. He married Audrene Cook. He was a retired mechanic for Ford Motor Co., and had worked as a trudk driver. He had lived in Hazleton, IN since 1987 and had previously lived in Tucson, AZ, and Princeton, IN. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the N.R.A. Gerald Lloyd was born October 3, 1926 at Orchardville, IL. to Charles and Joyce (Dunlap) Clements. He married Vera M. Schell July 12, 1946 in Wayne City, IL. She preceded him in death October 12, 2006. He was retired from Wayne-White Electric Co-Op at Fairfield, IL and a member of Providence General Baptist Church near Cisne. He was also a member of the Cisne Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Gerald Lloyd is survived by his wife Beverly Clements and one son Gerry (Connie) Clements; Step daughters Robin (Wesley) Johnson and LaVaughn Pierce. Sisters Maxine (O.E.Jack) Hargrave and Peggy (Donnie) Barnard and nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a Great Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents,1st wife Vera, 2nd wife Radean one daughter Connie, one son-in-law Garry, one grandson Scott. Funeral services for Gerald Lloyd Clements were held at Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne, Illinois. Burial will be in Johnsonville Cemetery. Hosselton Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. Gerald was employed by Ames Garden Tools as a truck driver and was a member of the Sailor Springs Baptist Church and the Sailor Springs American Legion. He was an United States Veteran serving in the Army. He was born July 24, 1936 in Highland Park, Michigan, the son of the late John Holland and the late Mary Elizabeth (Cole) Holland. He was married to Marjorie Darlene Forman on December 19, 1972 in Cisne, Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Holland of Sailor Springs; sons, Gerald E Holland of Hillman, Michigan, Danny Holland of North Carolina, and John Holland of Hillman, Michigan; sister: Betty Boehm and husband Ed of Willoughby, Ohio; grandchildren, Onna, Kim, T.C. and Jake. 3237 | Geraldine Mae Edwards died Aug. 2, 2014 at her home in Camas. She was 83. Geraldine was born July 7, 1931, to Lemuel and Emma Porter in Quenemo, Kan. She loved her family, and had eight brothers and sisters. Geraldine worked as a secretary in the aerospace industry. She was a five year resident of Camas and a member of the Baptist Church, as well as the Emblem Club of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, lodge No. 823. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, as well as spending time gardening and with her family. She was loved by many and will be missed. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Edwards of Camas; brother, William Ragan of Kansas; sister Rita Charlene Dean of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwards (2007) and her daughter Melody Lynne Langan (2001). A celebration of Geraldine's life was held Aug. 8 at the Fern Prairie Cemetery. She married Jack Grogan on December 23, 1944 in Piggott, AR. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2001. She operated Gerry's Beauty Shop on West 3rd St. in Flora for 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flora where her great-grandfather, I.H. Elkin, was one of the founding fathers of the church. Gerry enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, and water skiing. She is survived by her son: Bob Grogan & wife Becky of Weatherford, TX; daughter: Gerry Todd of Evansville, IN; granddaughter: Carol Todd of Flora; grandson: Brian Grogan & wife Cristal of Rota, Spain; 1 sister: Shirley Elkin of Decatur. Gertrude worked at Watson's Drug Store in Olney, Illinois, then got married and moved to Granite City, Illinois. Gertrude and Thomas Charles Fry were united in marriage on May 29, 1954 in Olney, Illinois. They started a family in Granite City and moved to Sorento, Illinois in the 1970's. She worked for Hampton's Nursing Home for 37 years. Gertrude and Thomas were members of the Sorento Baptist Church. 3245 | Gilbert Dean Hale, 86, of Clay City, IL. passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at his residence. He was born October 31, 1936, to Gilbert E. and Eleanor (Shipman) Hale in Clay County IL. Gilbert served in the United States Army in Europe, farmed, and worked in the oilfield. In 1965 he married Phyllis Caldwell and began working as a heavy equipment operator through local 841. He was known as the best Gradall operator in the Tri-State area. He also served as auditor for 841 as well as several local positions, including Clay County Democrat Precinct Committeeman and Stanford Township Supervisor. He enjoyed gardening and raising cattle. He is survived by his son Joey (Kristin) Hale of Clay City, IL.; two grandchildren Nichole and Jesse; two sisters June Kuenstler of Olney, IL, Betty Devlin of Manhattan, KS, and a brother Donny (Susie) Hale of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, two sisters Judy Burt and Barbara Lister, and his step grandfather Aden Mosley, two nephews Johnny Ray Murbarger, Jim Devlin, niece Melody Caldwell, great-niece Kensey Pond, and great-great-nephew Kash Barnfield. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 2pm at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home. A private burial will be held later date. He was born on July 27, 1930 in Jasper County, IL, the son of William and Sophia (Dorn) Volk. He married Patricia Ida Kaufmann on December 27, 1951 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ste. Marie and she survives. Gib served in the US Army and after discharge, returned to his family farm. He spent his entire life working, farming, and providing for his wife and 14 children. He was a good son to his parents, a loving husband and father, and a kind neighbor. He was always quick to help anyone in need. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church his entire life and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
