5502 Lyman Lee McKnight died at the Marion Veteran's Hospital, Marion, IL.

He was born in Clay County, IL the son of Hubert & Elsie Lewis McKnight.

He was a retired laborer for the Valley Steel Company in Flora. He was also a World War II Veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion & the Flora Eagles.

Mr. McKnight is survived by three sons, Bill, Jim, and Keith; a daughter Patricia Bissey; a brother, Murvin McKnight; five sisters, Mabel Monical, Dorothy Kutz, Dantzelle Cambron, Mary Stanford, and Lou Garrett; also three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents & a brother.

Funeral services were held at the Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Flora with Rev. Arthur Warren Phillips presiding.

Burial was at Hoosier Prairie Cemetery, Louisville, IL.

5503 Lyn was a lifelong educator, a published novelist, a poet, the first Clay County Illinois Fair queen and a staunch defender of the English language. She waged many battles against subject/verb disagreement, awkward sentence structure and the use of the “wretched word” ain’t. She taught for over 30 years in the Flora school district; the majority being at Xenia Grade school teaching language arts. She also served for several years as the president of the local teachers’ union.
Lyn spent her summers tutoring students and writing short stories. She spent her retirement teaching and loving her grandchildren, starting and participating in book clubs and writing novels. During her retirement she wrote several novels, one of which, ‘Nell’, can be found at amazon.com.

5505 M. Eugene "Gene" Hall Obituary
M. Eugene "Gene" Hall, aged 98 years of Clay City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 19, 1926 to Elmer and Beulah (Keneipp) Hall of Clay City, where he lived almost his entire life.

After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, the very next day, at age 18, and he served overseas aboard the USS Tuscaloosa and in the Russell Islands during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Clay City and married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Evans, and together they enjoyed 53 years of life together, until she died 2001. Gene was employed for many years by Easley-Padgett Funeral Home in Clay City as an ambulance driver and funeral assistant. He later enjoyed a career as the Village Clerk of Clay City until he retired at 65. He then started a second career which he whole-heartedly embraced, working for Randy and Carol Kistler and Steve and Kate Patterson of Kistler-Patterson Funeral Homes. A lifelong member of the Clay City Methodist Church, Gene served in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent and the Building and Finance Committees. He was a member of the Flora Elks Lodge, Clay City American Legion, and the Lion's Club. Gene considered his relationship with his Lord and Savior and other people to be his greatest possession. He succeeded in being a loving and thoughtful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Besides family, he is survived by countless people whose lives he touched during his long span of years.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Janice Crackel and her husband Bill of Olney; grandson, Seth (Jamie) Crackel of Geneva, IL; great granddaughters Iris and Nola Crackel of Geneva, several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and close friends that he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ruth; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Charlene Hall; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Kenneth Hostettler.

A heartfelt thank you from the family to all the wonderful Doctors, Nurses, and staff and volunteers of the long-term care unit at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Clay City United Methodist, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior to service time.

Interment will follow at Clay City Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the graveside.

5506 M. A. Edmiston, 5O, Mayor of Noble and County Director of Civil Defense, passed away early this morning at Richland Memorial Hospital, where he was taken just prior to his death.

Mr. Edmiston was an employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for over 30 years. Learning telegraphy at Xenia, where his late father, Lloyd Edmiston was B. and 0. agent for many years, Mr. Edmiston came to Noble as station agent on May 12, 1947. He served as Noble station agent until the depot closed on July 16, 1968. For the past six months he has been first trick telegrapher at Lawrenceville, maintaining his residence in Noble.

He was a 20 year member of the Noble Lions Club. He had served as County Defense Director for the past five years and had performed his duties very creditably. He had served the past four years as Mayor of Noble and his term would have expired on April 30, this year.

Funeral services will be held at the Noble Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Thursday with Brother Joe Eggebrecht in charge. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Xenia. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Juanita; a daughter, Mrs. Carol Ann Wimberly of 0lney, and a grandson, Jeffrey. Three brothers, Jim of St. Louis, Louis of Washington, Ind., and Bill of Flora also survive.

5507 M. Henry Strange, 93, Flora, died at 2:33 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at Clay County Hospital in Fairfield.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bunker Cemetery in Rinard.

Mr. Strange was born on November 5, 1910, in Clay County, the son of Silas Henry and Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Weir) Strange. He married Lou Veda Lewis on July 21, 1935, in Eldorado. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2001.

He was a machinist for Eaton Automotive for 25 years before retiring in 1973 and had been farming since then. He was a member of Bloom Baptist Church in Flora.

Mr. Strange is survived by a daughter, Martha A. Pearce and her husband, Charles E. "Chuck" III, of Flora; five grandchildren, Tammy Haven and her husband, Kenneth, of Flora, Alex Pearce and his wife, Dionne, of Freeburg, Jesse Pearoe and his wife, Carole, of Clarksville, Samantha Pearce, of Champaign, and Amanda Pearce, of Mattoon; six great-grandchildren, Danielle, Adrianne, Landon, Ryan, Erica and Eliza; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Strange, of Fairfield, and Bernice Strange, of Flora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers and five sisters.

Memorials may be made to Flora Public Library.

5508 M.G. Chub Green passed away at 11:45 pm, Monday, September 22, 2014 at his home in rural Louisville.

He was born on October 20, 1924 to Sillas and Gertrude Green of rural Iola, Illinois. He served in the Navy during World War II on the minesweeper, the U.S.S. Starling.

Chub married Kathleen Daugherty on May 29, 1947. They are the parents of two daughters, Candy Arnold of Louisville and Terry Drosselmeyer of Warrenton, Missouri. They owned Chub's Feed and Supply in Louisville for several years. Chub, also, worked construction, farmed, and raised livestock. He was an active member of the Red Brush Christian Church and Louisville Christian Church. He was a founder member of the Clay County Men's Fellowship and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Chub was preceded in death by siblings, Mildred Rogers, Orpha Painter, and Virginia Wright and survived by siblings, Violet Howe and Howard Green.

He is survived by wife, Kathleen, daughters and sons-in-law, Candy and Dennis Arnold and Terry and John Drosselmeyer, and grandchildren, Penny Arnold, Nathan and Raven Arnold, Travis and Ashley Arnold, Seth and Jolene Borders, Katie and Rodger Tucker, and Bobbi Drosselmeyer. Papa Chub's great-grandchildren are Kaylee Arnold, Caitlyn Arnold, Jacob Arnold, Harrison Arnold, Guy Arnold, Mattie Jo Borders, Jonah Borders, Avery Tucker, and Hailey Tucker. Papa Chub will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Arrangements were handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home in Louisville, IL .
The Funeral Service was held at J.W. Neal Funeral Home.

Interment was in the Red Brush Cemetery with full military rites by the Louisville American Legion.

Mrs. Mable Cross, 81, of Flora and formerly of Richland County, died Friday afternoon at the Clay County Hospital at Flora.

A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Pflaum of Olney, she was a native of Denver Township. She was first married to Charles Fulk and later to A1 Gibson, both of whom are deceased.

Funeral services were held at the Frank-Branson Funeral Home at Flora and burial was in Freedom cemetery, north of Noble.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Cross and the following children: sons, Jack, Indianapolis, Ind.; Harold Gibson, New Whiteland; Ind., CliffordFulk, Lockport; Herbert Fulk, Moline; daughters, Mrs. Wanda Peterson, Dartmouth, Mass.; Mrs. Goldie Lenear. Olney; stepsons, Virgil Cross, Indianapolis, Ind.; John Cross, Buffalo, N. 5512 Madge L. Good, 91, of Clay City, IL, died June 8, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Good was born December 8, 1914 in Protection, Kansas the daughter of Charles Clyde and Erma Gertrude Smith Foster. She married Harold R. Good July 6, 1938 in Russell, Kansas and he preceded her in death February 23, 2006.

She was a homemaker, and a faithful member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family and church.

Survivors include a son, Dennis P. Good; a daughter, Susan C. Burroughs; two granddaughters; and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a brother, Charles Fred Foster, and a sister, Eva G. James.

Funeral services were held at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora with burial in Clay City Cemetery.

5514 Madonna Rose Kirts, age 74, of Robinson, Illinois, passed away on Monday (February 8, 2016) at Heritage Manner after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Larry Kirts of Robinson.

Madonna was born in Olney, Illinois on November 8, 1941, and grew up in Wendelin, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy and Lawrence Fehrenbacher.

She was grounded in deep faith, involved in many activities, and enjoyed golfing until her illness struck in 2013.

Besides her husband, Madonna leaves her daughter, Cindy Gruensfelder, her son-in-law, Donn Gruensfelder, and four beloved grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Hannah, and Sarah Gruensfelder, all of St. Louis, MO. Madonna also leaves behind her cherished sister, Mary Jo McKinney of Olney, Illinois, as well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Paul and Thomas Fehrenbacher.

Madonna was a wonderful and giving person who was deeply rooted in her faith and who loved spending time with her grandchildren. For over thirty years she was the bookkeeper and buyer for Alblinger and Kirts Hardware in Oblong, IL. She was also a phenomenal golfer, with her husband Larry, a member of Quail Creek Country Club and of Oak Glen Golf Course. She was an avid reader, and incredible cook whose fruit pies were the favorites of many.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson, Illinois. The funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 12 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Robinson, Illinois.

Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin, Illinois.

Maedine Butler, 77, resident of Charleston, MO died December 1, 2011 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO. She was born March 23, 1934 in New Madrid, MO to the late John and Elnora Butler Jones.

She was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board and was a former usher.

She attended Lincoln School in Charleston and retired from the Charleston R-1 School District in the Culinary Department.

She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, Willie and Denise Jarrett and Maurice and Wanda Jarrett of Charleston, David and Anita Butler-Jarrett of Joliet, IL and Malcomb and Traci Castro Jarrett of Pittsburg, PA, one daughter and one son-in-law, Gloria and Berry Taylor of Campbellsville, KY, two brothers Willie Jones of Chicago, IL and Tommy Jones of Charleston, two sisters Gearline Jones and Ezola Clark of Charleston, a grandson she raised, Hillus Butler of Joliet, IL, a nephew she was guardian to, Cornell T. Jones of Charleston, 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.

5517 Magdlena Cinderella "Maggie" Snell, 93, of Clay City, died at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Flora Gardens.

Mrs. Snell was born December 11, 1917, in Sailor Springs, the daughter of John and Effie (Montoney) Smith. She married Lindell Snell in 1933 in Olney. He preceded her in death in 1982.

She was a retired cook at Little Diner and Holland Truck Stop in Flora. She was a member of Clay City Christian Church.

Mrs. Snell is survived by her son, Billie Snell, of Carmi; daughter, Virginia Moseley, of Clay City; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Effie Smith; husband, Lindell Snell; son, Bobbie Dean; four sisters; four brothers; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Summers Kistler Funeral Home with Minister Darrel Brandon officiating.

Burial was in Clay City Cemetery.

5527 Makalee "Koo" Payne, 20, of Noble, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, Indiana.

Makalee was born August 5, 1994 in Richland County, the daughter of Brian and Marla (Payne) Kilgore.

She graduated from West Richland High School in 2012 and was involved in many sports; basketball, volleyball, and softball.

She was currently working as a DSP at Crown Point in Sumner, IL.

Makalee was a easy going, strong headed woman with a big heart. She had a smile that would just make your day. She enjoyed to sing and dance every chance she got. Makalee was silly and comical and would have everyone laughing. She had an abundance of friends and savored every moment she had with them. She enjoyed her job and adored being around the residents at Crown Point.

Makalee loved children. She took pleasure in being around her family but especially her niece and nephews. She cherished the time with her sisters and they did everything together.

Michael Hundley was the love of her life, they had been dating for two years and she stayed by his side as he was on deployment to Afghanistan.

She is survived by her mother, Marla Kilgore of Noble;
sister, Nikki Kilgore of Bradenton, FL; sister, Kacie Payne of Noble; sister, Jennifer Wolfe of Clay City; grandparents, Reva and Bobby Fulk and Ron Holtz; great grandmother, Pauline Stadge; aunts and uncles, Sarah and Martin Holtz, Karla and Joe O'Dell, and Sherry Cavender; niece and nephews, Bella and Lennox Lewis, and Xavier Owusu-Gyan; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Brian Kilgore, grandfather, Donnie Payne.

Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed and she will forever be in our hearts.

5528 Malbert E. Franklin, 103, of Sailor Springs died 1 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 12, 2013) in Flora Care and Rehab Center.

Malbert was born Feb. 11, 1909, the son of Baldy and Josephine Noll Franklin. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired farmer. He was a member of the American Legion and affiliated with Sailor Springs Christian Church.

Surviving is his sister, Norma Abbott and husband Harold of Sailor Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Bill, Orris, Roy, and Nolan Franklin), and three sisters (Bernice Bridges, Alberta Anderson, & Hazel Hills).

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City, with Pastor Tim Schnautz officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before services.

Burial will be in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, with military rites.

She married seconed James Lincoln Patterson, and had two children, Everett and Charles William Patterson.

She then married Joseph Loackley. She died in Washington County, Indiana, and was brought back to be buried in Hanna Cemetery.

5531 Mamie F. Coble, 94, of Flora, IL died at 8:54 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Flora Pavilion in Flora, IL.

She was born on August 13, 1911 in Dahlgren, IL to Francis "Frank" Osmer & Martha Catherine (Sutton) Cox. She married Verdie A. Coble on December 1, 1929 in Clay County, IL. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1979.

She was a homemaker and cleaned for over 50 years for Frank & Bright Funeral Home (earlier known as Branson Funeral Home & John T. Frank Funeral Home). Her memberships include New Hope Pentecostal Church of Flora and the D.A.R. Mamie loved her church and enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her children: Frances A. Anderson; Wilma L. Hongsermeier, Vernal Roush, V. Arthur Coble, Judith Buhs, Joan Melton; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons (Greg Roush & Eddie Anderson), four brothers, eight sisters.

Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Steve Ranson & Bro. Jeff Hough officiating.

Burial was in Floral Garden of Memories in Flora.

5532 MAMIE FRANCES TROBOUGH

Mamie Frances Trobough, the first of six daughters born to William Thomas and Laura Bell (Campbell) Wells, was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on April 17, 1904, and passed away in Oxford, Nebraska on April 20, 1992, at the age of 88 years and 3 days.

As an infant she moved with her parents to Clay City, Illinois where they lived for five years. In 1909, she moved with her parents and sister, Lucille, to Furnas County, Nebraska where she grew up and attended rural schools in the Spring Green area southwest of Beaver City.

She was married to W. T. Hess and two children were born to this union, William Thomas and Bonnie Jean. They lived near Beaver City and at Ashland. Later, Mamie and her children lived in Beaver City and Oxford, where she worked for a number of years.

In 1943, she was married to George Dewey Trobough and they lived in Oxford until 1957 at which time they moved to Bishop, Texas. In Bishop, they owned and operated a Dairy Queen. Dewey passed away March 6, 1966. Mamie returned to Oxford in 1969 where she spent the remainder of her life.

Mamie loved to sew and crochet and do for her family and friends. Family and friends were very important to her. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Pierson and her husband, Bob, of Kyle, TX; one son, William Hess and his wife, Virginia, of San Jose, CA; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lucille Quinn of Beaver City, NE, Florence Nichols of Napa, CA and Dorothy LaCroix and her husband, James, of Willis, TX; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Additional survivor was Leora (Gibson) Weatherwax and her sons. She was a close friend and foster daughter for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Trobough in 1966; her parents: Tom Wells in 1937 and Laura Wells in 1972; and two sisters: Ada Wells in 1917 and Doris Wells in 1923.

Funeral services were conducted from the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford with Rev. Dallas Johnson officiating. Music was provided by Sharon Fletcher and Phyllis McInturf.

Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford.

5533 Mamie Jo Brown, age 85, of Cisne, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at Cisne Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Mamie Jo was born January 30, 1929, in Flora, the daughter of John Allen Davis and Lucille Fern (Compton) Davis.

Over the years, she had worked at Four Sisters Manufacturing and was known to many as the "biscuit lady" at Druther's. She loved babysitting and taking care of grandchildren, and enjoyed puzzles, watching sports, playing cards, gardening, slot machines, and fishing and hunting when she was young.

Mamie Jo is survived by her children: Carl (Shirley) Eskew, Ginger (Lloyd) Powell, Donna Hemphill, Bonnie (Cliff) Witt of Lockport, Lee Ann (Frank) Kennedy, Guy (Rhonda) Brown, Jackie (Ted) Richardson, and Virgil Brown; three brothers: George Davis, John (Ada) Davis, Gary (Darlene) Davis; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law: Vance; three brothers: Robert, Emory, and Richard; and three sisters: Rosemary, Doris, and Priscilla.

A funeral service for Mamie Jo Brown was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

A private interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and will be accepted at the funeral home.

5534 Mancil G. Rinehart, 74, of Olney, died November 1, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.

Mr. Rinehart was born September 1, 1925, in Sailor Springs, the son of Colmore U. and Beryl E. (Weaver) Rinehart.

He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Rinehart is survived by two sons, Michael E. Rinehart and Vincent D. Rinehart; three brothers, Michael F. Rinehart, Colmore U. Rinehart Jr. and Van J. Rinehart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mariam Jean Doan.

The body is to be cremated and service arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Burial will be with full military rites at Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.

5536 Marcella D (Rapp) Shinn, 86, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on July 9, 2010. Marcella was born on January 3, 1924, in Webb City, Missouri, to Daniel and Alice Rapp. She grew up and graduated high school in Flora, Illinois. Kansas City was where she lived most of her life and worked and raised her two children, Terry W. Shinn and A. Danielle Shinn.

She worked as a single mother and always had a great work ethic in her administrative and accounting roles. Marcella also acted as the Secretary/Treasurer for many organizations throughout her years. She retired from Wagner Industries in 1991. During her retirement she traveled and proudly volunteered at the Harry S. Truman Library.

Marcella was preceded in death by her son, Terry; her parents, and three brothers: Chester, Burl, and William Rapp.

She is survived by her daughter, Danielle S. Shepard and husband, Larry, formerly of Independence, MO; her four grandchildren: C. Patrick Shinn of Desoto, KS; Michelle Smith Dixon of Overland Park, KS; Natalie Smith Pasquarette, and Craig M. Smith of Independence, MO; four great-grandchildren: Lucia Shinn, Lindsey Moritz, Caroline Miller, and Alison Pasquarette, and two brothers, Maurice Rapp of Charlotte, NC, and Paul Rapp of Longview, TX.

Grant Jackson, 82, well known Preston township farmer, died Sunday night at his home north of Olney after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and four children, Charles R. Jackson of Hazel Crest, William W. Jackson of Malta, Mont., Mrs. Clara J. Snider of Dundas and Mrs. Ethel C. Kilzer of Olney.
Also surviving are two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dora Nicholas of Lima Center, WI; one half-sister, Mrs. Pricella Struble of Olney, and one half-brother, Lee Jackson of Olney.

Funeral services were held Wednesday and burial was in Haven Hill cemetery.

5539 Margaret (Allen) Stockwell was born 11 December 1838 and died 21 May 1870. She is buried in Clearspring Cemetery, Clear Spring, Jackson Co., Indiana. Her parents were William Allen and Axiom "Axey" Tatlock. Axiom was the sister of Sarah Tatlock, making Margaret the niece of Daniel and Sarah (Tatlock) Dawalt. Margaret's father, William Allen, died on 6 June 1863 and is also buried in the Clearspring Cemetery. Axey remarried Unknown Goen and is buried in Clearspring Cemetery next to her first husband, William Allen.
Margaret Allen married David A. Stockwell. David enlisted in the 67th Regiment, Company K, Indiana Infantry on 20 August 1862 and was discharged on 19 July 1865. In the 1870 Census, David is shown with three young girls that are most likely Margaret's daughters. David and his second wife are buried in Clearspring Cemetery. She was born March 23, 1914 in Wayne County, IL to Frank K. & Bernice B. (Toliver) Wilson. She married Gerald E. Ross on November 3, 1933. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1974.

Margaret was a homemaker, a member of the Clay City First Baptist Church, and she was an avid Cubs fan, and Illinois fan, and she loved her dogs.

She is survived by her daughter: Judy Gibbs & husband Ronnie of Clay City; 4 grandchildren: Vonda (Charlie) Amburgy of Marshall, Charles (Krysty) Walden of Flora, John (Erica) of Flora, Lora (Ray) Phillips of Flora; 1 brother: Jack Wilson of Springfield; 1 sister: Mildred Finn of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers (Charles, Ralph, Robert, Eldon & Richard Ross), 3 sisters (Mary Young, Martha Wilson).

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday (Dec 29, 2009) at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Harris officiating. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday.

5542 Margaret Billington, age 93, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Margaret was born December 28, 1921, in Flora to Frank Engelmeier Sr. and Ellen Elizabeth (Dunigan) Engelmeier.

She was employed by Andy’s Market for many years and was a member of Oak Street Southern Baptist Church. Margaret enjoyed time with her grandchildren and looked forward to Sunday morning church services at Flora Gardens Care Center.

She is survived by her daughter: Mary Ellen (husband Terry) Gidcumb; grandson: Chad (wife Susan) King; great-grandson: Vince (wife Danielle) King; brother: Harvey (wife Jean) Engelmeier; sister: Bernadine Landreth; sister-in-law: Dorothy Engelmeier; and nephew: Mike (wife Kris) Engelmeier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Frank Engelmeier; and sister: Evelyn Engelmeier.

A funeral service for Margaret Billington was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery.

5543 Margaret Duke entered heaven on Monday February 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret and her twin sister Margie were born March 21, 1926, in Flora, Illinois to John Henry and Bertie Hord Mitchell.

Margaret was a graduate of Flora High School. She married Ellsworth Duke on December 11, 1944, in Henderson, Kentucky, before he entered World War II. Margaret and Ellsworth were reunited after the end of World War II and made their first home in Cisne, IL. During this time, Margaret had three children, Mike, Pat, and Jill.

In the 1960s, Margaret became a business owner. She and her sisters Bonnie and Maye successfully ran several women’s stores in Flora, Olney, Cisne, and Ramsey. Following her sisters’ retirement, she established Margaret’s Bridal in Olney.

When she retired from her bridal business, she enjoyed many years of snow birding in Bonita Springs, Fla. In order to spend more time with her grandson Patrick, she and Ellsworth moved back to Flora where she made many wonderful friends.

Margaret had a passion for dancing, playing cards, hosting yard sales, gathering her family, spending time with her grandchildren and serving others. She had many friends and was well loved by many people.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, her sons Mike and Pat, her grandson Clint, her mother and father, sisters Bonnie Wieldt, Maye Hemphill, Virginia Willis, and brothers Robert and Harold Mitchell.

She is survived by her twin sister Margie Yingst of Flora, her daughter Jill (Jerry) Harrell of Olney, daughter-in-law Glenda Duke of Flora, and daughter in-law Nikki Duke of Fort Worth, Tex. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Cole (Kristen) Duke of Flora, Rebecca (James) Bishir of Kokomo, Ind., Meghan (Cameron) Cushman of Fort Worth, Tex., Collin (Kaci) Duke of Santa Monica, Calif., Patrick Duke of Denton, Tex., Tyler (Callie) Harrell of Westfield, Ind., and Kellie (Travis) Arnold of Alexandria, Ky. Margaret is further survived by 13 great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Cisne Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to First Christian Church Youth Fund or Fur a Good Paws, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.

She came to America with her family at the age of two.

She was 19 when she married Jacob Yauch.

Margaret & Jacob's family eventually grew to eight children. She & Jacob's first six children were girls; Elizabeth, Rose, Della, Sarah (Sally), Della again, & Lillie Mae. There were then two sons John & Jacob born.

Jacob and Margaret lost four children in infancy including the first "Della", thus accounting for their naming another daughter Della in 1879.

5546 Margaret Hope Moseley of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on December 24, 2019 in Logansport, Indiana.

Margaret was born October 2, 1944 in Olney, Illinois to Loren and Helen (Colclasure) Petty. She married Donnell Ray Moseley on June 20, 1965, in Clay City. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2009. She was a devoted mother to three daughters and “Nana” to eleven grandchildren. Margaret graduated from Clay City High School, and she received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and master’s degree from Murray State University. She taught for 36 years at Taylorville High School, where she served as the co-chair of the English department. She retired from teaching in 2001, and she remains loved and respected by students and colleagues alike. Margaret moved to Springfield in 2015, where she became active in West Side Christian Church and the Springfield chapter of PEO. Margaret also enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, reading and travelling.

Surviving are her daughters: Stephanie Moseley of Taylorville, Danielle Hayes of Logansport, IN, (husband Jeffery) and Lenee Lucas of Springfield (husband Blake); grandchildren Hadassah, Moriah, Elijah, Micaiah, Hannah, Jeremiah, Zephaniah and Havilah Hayes; and Roslyn, Leo and Juliet Lucas; sisters, Lorena Pope of Mattoon and Barbara Helpingstine of Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Jeffery Hayes officiating. Private burial will take place in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, January 3 in the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Christian County Mental Health Association. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

5548 Margaret Jean Bradley, daughter of William and Hattie Bradley, was born in this city July 14, 1926, and departed this life May 8, 1926 at the age of 9 months and 24 days.

She leaves her father, mother, four brothers, five sisters, who will miss her very much. Her sickness being of only a few hours duration, makes her death a severe shock to her parents.

5549 Margaret L. "Bonnie" Colclasure, 88, of St. Charles, formerly of Clay City, died Saturday, June 21,2008, at Provena Pineview Care Center in St. Charles.

Mrs. Colclasure was born March 23, 1920 in Cherokee, Kans., the daughter of Victor and Cecil Barnard. She married Warren Colclasure. He preceded her in death.

Due to illness, she had moved to Batavia to be with her family, leaving behind her many friends, church, and her volunteer work.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Imogene and Richard Isbell of Batavia, and Patsy and Robert Hinterlong of Crystal Falls, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three siblings, Louise Anderson, and John H. and Charles Barnard, and one great-grandson, Alex Levin.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, with the Rev. David Zinn officiating. Burial was in River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia, IL.
