5801 MILDRED SHULL MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mildred Fern McCubbin Shull, 91, of Muscatine, formerly of Springfield and Beason, Illinois area, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Riverbend Nursing amp; Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be held on 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Bluegrass Cemetery, Beason, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Mrs. Shull was born on March 25, 1911, in Midland City, Illinois, the daughter of Cora and James Holmes of Springfield. She married Homer McCubbin in Jan. of 1935. He preceded her in death in 1940. She later married Garland Shull on Dec. 31, 1947. He preceded her also in 1991. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Muscatine. She was well-known for her varied craft work, especially rug weaving, where she attended the DeWitt County Museum's "Apple 'n' Pork Festival" in Clinton, Illinois, for several years in the 1980's demonstrating her mastered art. Survivors include two daughters, Cleona Griffin of Phoenix, Arizona, and Charlene Hickman and her husband, Rodney, of Muscatine; three sons, James McCubbins and his wife, Sandra, of Clinton, Illinois, Lloyd Shull and his wife, Debra, of Mesa, Arizona, and Greg Shull and his wife, Donna, of Maroa, Illinois; four step-children; 17 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. 5802 Mildred Stanford, 91, of Louisville, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, January 19, 1997, at Flora Care Center, Flora.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Neal Funeral Home, Louisville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services, Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Bro. Tom McGee will officiate at the services. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Mrs. Stanford was born September 25, 1905, in Louisville, the daughter of Roy F. and Lura (Hagle) Lackey. She married William L. Stanford in 1922. He died in 1989. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Louisville Christian Church.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Stine of Flora, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter.

5805 Mildred Wilson Finn, age 97, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:00 PM - Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM – Monday, July 15, 2019, at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois, with Ron Mulvey officiating. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Mildred was born on July 26, 1921, in Clay City, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Bernice (Tolliver) Wilson.

Mildred worked at United Technologies in Newton for over 15 years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Newton.

Mildred enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and doing word search puzzles.

Mildred is survived by:

Brother – Jack Wilson of Springfield, Illinois

5806 Mildred ‘Millie' Willison, 76 of Clay City, IL passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at Flora Rehab and Health Care Center.

Mildred was born June 11, 1937 at Rantoul, IL to Archie and Iva (Richards) Rodgers. She retired from Hella Electronic Corporation at Flora, IL.

Mildred is survived by three daughters – Kathy Willison; Barbara (Ronnie) McGrew and Dena (Tony) Ferguson; four brothers – Carrol Rodgers, Russell (Betty) Rodgers, and Delbert (Becky) Rodgers and Gene (Sue) Rodgers. Three grandsons, two granddaughters, four great grandsons, three great granddaughters, three step granddaughters, five step great grandsons, and three step great granddaughters also survive.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Roy, one sister Patsy, and her parents.

A memorial service was held at Hosselton Funeral Home, in Cisne.

Owen Circuit Court Oct Term 1834: Age 79 the 13th day of Oct 1834, resident of Owen Co.(signed with an " X mark " ) Samuel Evans testified for him. Stated that George Modrell was in a battle with John McCullough in NC (Sassafrass Field). John states that he was born 17 June, 1755 in Lancaster Co., PA (had inscription in family bible by his father for proof) Moved to NC and lived in Mecklenburg & Cabarrus Counties. Thence to" Cox Co."(probably Cocke Co., but also could be Knox Co. ),TN , lived there 3 yrs.. Thence to Pulaski Co.,KY and lived there 30 yrs; then to Owen Co., IN. He enlisted in the RW at Chanceford Twp, York Co. , PA; but also entered the war again in NC, 8 Feb.,1777 and was a prisoner on 14 Apr.,1779, mustered out Nov.,1779. He stated that his father was ALSO a "John McCullough" and one witness stated that the father was ALSO in the army during the Rev. War.

5825 Milton Weidner, age 70 of Clay City, died at 7:08 a.m. August 23, in the Clay County Hospital.

Services were held August 25 at the Hosselton, Bookhout, Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City, with burial in the Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.

Mr. Weidner was born November 6, 1918, the son of Joseph and Philibena Schnautz Weidner. He married Marie Patridge on July 20, 1940 and she survives. He was a retired truck driver for J.W. Rudy.

Besides his wife, survivors include three daughters, Beverly Dunahee of Grayville, Rose Heathcock, White House, TN., and Carolyn Weidner of Clay City; four sons, Paul, Robert, and Donnie of Clay City and Kenneth of Sailor Springs; four sisters, Bonita Stanley, Olney, Audrey Barcley of Salem, Rae Dean Gill of Mt. Vernon, and Louise Rosenleib of Casper, WY; two brothers, Fletcher Weidner of Jonesville, MI and Danny Weidner of Olney, nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

5826 Mina (Moseley) Newton, 94, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.

Mina was born on May 30, 1927 in Clay City, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Clinton and Helen Madeline (Evans) Moseley. She married Donovan Newton on July 29, 1946 in Richland County, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 2011.

In her earlier years, Mina enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, square dancing and bowling. She took pleasure in working alongside her husband on the farm and raising her family of six children. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards and time spent with family. Sundays were always a house full of faith, family, food, and laughter. Mina had a strong faith in the Lord and prayed for her family and friends.

She was a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Mina is survived by her Son, Donald Wayne (Jayne) Newton of Noble; Daughter, Karen (Bob) Totten of Noble; Daughter, Sherry (Leon) Wilson of Olney; Son, Kevin Newton of Noble; Son, Kenneth Newton of Noble; Son, Charles (Nancy) Newton of Olney. 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rita Keck; sister, Viola Fehrenbacher; sister, Vera Rinnert; brother, Richard Moseley.

A graveside funeral service for Mina will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Olive Branch Cemetery. Interment will immediately follow the service.

Memorials can be made to Carle Center for Philanthropy (write Carle Hospice-Olney on memo line if donating by check) or Antioch Christian Church.

5830 Minnie E. “Papa” Ramsey, 99, of Sullivan, passed into the arms of Jesus, Sunday March 22, 2020 in her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made in care of the family. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Minnie was born September 17, 1920, in Iola; the daughter of Arthur and Goldie D. (Sutton) Colclasure. She married Rayford A. Ramsey on October 5, 1936, in Effingham; he preceded her in death on May 18, 1984. She enjoyed going fishing, and loved her family and her dog Mater. Minnie was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol J. Burkhalter of Sumrall, MS; grandson and caregiver, Scottie (Tracy) Ramsey of Sullivan; plus 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters, Phyllis Dugan, Marie Utsler, sons, Harold D. Ramsey and Carl E. “Butch” Ramsey, as well as, her brothers and sisters.

Mrs. FRAZIER was born on April 14, 1918, in Clay City, the daughter of George and Lou (PETTYJOHN) BRAINARD. She married Glenn R. FRAZIER in 1939. She was a homemaker and seamstress.

Surviving are her widower, Glenn R. FRAZIER of Gamalie, AR; three brothers, Fay and Ray, both of Olney, and Glenn of Pittsburg; one sister, Bessie GARDNER of Olney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Mrs. NEFF was born on June 16, 1902, in rural Clay City, the daughter of John and Cora (BOYD) BATES. She married Frank A. NEFF, Jr. in 1921 in Olney. He died in 1977. She was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.

Surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Leone COX and Mildred HAMILTON, both of Flora, and Velma and Dale FROST of Louisville; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, four sisters, and two brothers.

5836 Miss Barbara Margarite Edderer,92, of south of Sainte Marie, died Friday at Richland Memoral Hospital.

She had resided at Burgin Nursing Home No.2 in Olney several months.

Funeral mass was held at a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic church in Sainte Marie with Rev. Father George Windsor officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with the Flagg service in charge.

Surviving are three brothers, Nick and Albert of Sainte
Marie, and Henry of Waterman.

(This obit came from a sheet of paper that was in Helen Reed's papers.

A date of Nov. 19, 1963 was on it also, but no other source.

Upon checking a Nov. 1963 calendar, the 19th was on a Tuesday and obit states she died on a Friday. I am assuming the 19th was the publication date. That would make her dying on the previous Friday, being Nov. 15.

5838 Miss Clara Evans, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Evans of Clay City, was shot and instantly killed by J. M. Jorganson, who formerly lived at Gidney, Iowa. He then killed himself. She was 36 years old.

The remains were returned to Clay City by her brother A. S Evans and taken to the home of her sister Mrs. Emma Koontz. Burial was in Clay City Cemetery.

5839 Miss Gertrude Cleone Real, 79, of 403 St. John Street, died unexpectedly at her home late Tuesday evening.

A life long resident of Richland County, except for one year, she was born in Clay County, Illinois a daughter of John L. and Florence Jones Real, December 30, 1892.

Miss Real was a former elementary school teacher having taught in the Glenwood, North Freedom, Snyder, and Brushville Schools. She was an active member of the Undenominational Church.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Murvin (Esther) Crouse of RR 2, Noble; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Omar Real of RR 2, Noble; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Omar Real and one sister, Mrs. Guy (LaVerne) Kimpling.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Zirkle Mortuary, with Mr. William Lewis officiating.

Interment will be in Hanna Cemetery northwest of Noble. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today.

5841 Miss Nellie Harmon, 77, lifelong resident of Richland County, retired school teacher and one of Olney's grandest persons, died at her home, 903 East Cherry Street, last night following a lengthy illness. She was most highly
respected by many citizens of this area, and admired by her colleagues in the teaching profession.

Nellie born near Claremont on April 10, 1893 daughter of Alexander and Ivy Alice Gardner, and lived in this county her entire life. She was very active and faithful as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Olney, and was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association. Miss Harmon began her teaching career by teaching in two rural schools in this county, and then started teaching in the Olney Schools in 1916. She remained in the Olney school
system until she retired in 1952. She attended the Olney schools, and the Teacher's College in Carbondale.

She married William Henry (Pikey) Allgood 5 MAR 1790 in Mecklenberg County, Virginia, son of John Allgood and Mary Anne Hames. He was born 22 APR 1761 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and died 7 OCT 1847 in Surry County, North Carolina. He was buried in The Henry Allgood Cemetery, Yadkin County, NC.
