5952 | Mr. Laddie L. Elliott, 83, of New Carlisle, IN, and formerly of Kingsbury, IN, died at 2:37 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at South Bend Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Flora, IL, to Ernest and Hattie (Powell) Elliott, and had lived in this area since 1946. He had lived in the Kingsbury area since 1961, coming from Battle Creek, MI. Mr. Elliott was a tool and die maker, retiring from Howmet Industries in LaPorte. He was a member of LaPorte Assembly of God Church. Mr. Elliott was a U.S. Army veteran, having served with the 11th Airborne Division. He was a member of Kingsbury Lions Club, a Kingsbury Boy Scoutmaster and a member of Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department. On Sept. 2, 1951, in Kingsbury, he married Marjory Lucille Wakeman, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Jennifer (Jack) Dillard and Carolyn (Lester) Todd, both of Kingsbury, and Nanette (Dennis) Kamp of Rochester, IN; seven grandchildren, Casey and Cole Woods, Kyle (Brittany) Dillard, Ryan Ledgerwood, Austin and Ashley Candler, and Gregory Elliott; three great-grandsons, Hayden, Landon and Kamden Elliott; and one great-granddaughter, Tinley Dillard. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory Elliott; one grandson, Adam Candler; two sisters and three brothers. All are welcome to a public graveside service with military honors at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Kingsbury Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Hines officiating. There will be no visitation. Mike was born August 8, 1955, in Maryville, California, to Marshal and Inez (Caples) Wilson. On October 29, 1997, Mike married Paula Nichols in Hawaii. For the past 7 years, Mike had been employed as a truck driver for Filmor Express. For many years prior, he worked for Maverick. Mike was a member of the Flora Elks Lodge #1659, Flora Moose Lodge #1384, Sons of the American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. Mike is survived by his wife, Paula, of Flora, IL, son, Kenny Thatcher, of Nevada, a brother, three sisters, several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. 5970 | Mr. Miller came from his native community to Pana, III., when he was 18 years old. For more than thirty years he was an employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, where he was always honored and trusted because he was always efficent and fallhful. Under the ministry of Evangelist Dixon C. Williams he made public profession of faith in Christ at Pana, Illinois in the fall of 1889, and at once united wilh the Methodlst Episcopal Church. At the time of his removal to Flora fifteen years ago he transferred his membership to Flora. He was a quiet, earnest Christian, liberal in his support of the church and all its enterprises, and a faithful attendant as long as his health would permit. Hiss health began to fall about five years ago, but he remained at his post until about fifteen months since. Though unable to work he slill insisted on attending the church services as often as possible. During his last sickness he often expressed his faith in Christ and gave every assurance that he was ready lo meet death as a Christian with courage and fortitude. His suffering was long and intense, and every thing that medical and surgical skill could do was done but to no avail. During his intense suffering he was patient and sweetspirited always seeing the bright side of things. Although weak in body he was cheerful and bright for the sake of his loved ones. 5983 | Mr. Robert D. Luthe, 65, of rural West Salem died Sunday June 16, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Services were held today (Wednesday) at the Little Wabash Church west of West Salem with Rev. Melody Brawley officiating. Burial was in the Little Wabash Cemetery with the American Legion McCormack Post No. 658 of West Salem presenting military rites. Ingram Funeral Home of West Salem was in charge of the service. Mr. Luthe was born August 14, 1919 in Edwards County, the son of James and Anna Barnhart Luthe. He married Mary Margaret Travis on December 13, 1947 in Harrisburg. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret; three sons, James of Lawrenceville and Michael and George both of West Salem; three daughters, Roberta Brown of Evansville and Margaret Jane Luthe and Robbin Shaw, both of West Salem; three sisters, Gladys Pankeau of Champaign, Edith Mason of Albion and Frances Luthe of Hazelwood Missouri and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy, in 1982, and two sisters, Blanche Witte in 1976 and Virgie Deischer in 1984. Mr. Luthe was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier. Robert was born on June 21, 1941, in Claremont, Illinois, to Theodore and Irene (Wagner) Blank. He proudly served our nation in the United States Army. Robert married Debra McDowell on December 19, 1998. He worked at Auto Parts in Olney for a time and then became an operator at Quebecor where he retired on June 13, 2003. He was a member of the VFW Post #3999 and American Legion Post #14. Robert was a member of the Flora 1st United Methodist Church where he attended the Seekers Sunday school class. Robert is survived by his wife, Debra Blank; daughter, Sherry Gaa and husband Rick, son, Scott Blank and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Nicholas Gaa, Spencer Gaa, Sadie Blank, and Jasper Blank; sisters, Margaret Blank, Ruth Coan and husband Phillip, Rose Wilkinson, Theresa Bowlby and husband John, and brother, Paul Blank and wife Clara. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his first wife, Dee Scott Blank, brothers, Daniel Blank and Ronald Blank, and brother-in-law, John Wilkinson. Robert was born September 15, 1928, in Wayne County, to Chester Henson and Mable (Holman) Henson. He married Helen Moore on October 28, 1949 in Xenia IL. Robert spent his life farming and was a member of Powers Church in Xenia, as well as, the Flora Coon Hunters Club.. Mr. Henson is survived by three sons; Gary, Mike, and Richard Henson. Grandchildren; Kelli and Brian Dorris, Erinne and Garold Snyder, and Lindsay Henson. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Betty Caudle Henson, and his wife Helen who passed away on February 25, 2011. 5986 | Mr. Robert R. "Bob" Smith, 66, of Xenia, Illinois, died at 4:02 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. Bob was born February 6, 1947, to Maxwell and Catherine (Adams) Smith. On February 8, 1969, Bob married Mabel Carpenter at the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Geff, IL. He graduated from Flora High School in 1965. After graduation, Bob received training and certification in Mechanics. As an Army Veteran, Bob proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. For 23 years, Bob worked at World Color. Upon the closing of World Color, he went to work on the seismic crew for the Ceja Corporation. For the past 10 years, Bob had been working at Minwax Sherman Williams. In addition to his many jobs, Bob ran his family farm where he raised livestock and tended to the daily farm duties. Bob was a true outdoorsman, spending much time hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed oil painting and was an avid reader. Most of all, Bob loved his family. Bob was a member of Coon Creek Ridge Riders and Flora American Legion Post #14. Bob is survived by his wife, Mabel; daughters, Tammy Smith Wyman, Robbin Smith, son, Gale Smith, five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Venita Wartsbaugh, Ammie Bonham, Margaret Simpson, Lois Simpson, Dorothy Rigg, Ellen Coble, two brothers, Mike Smith and Curt Smith. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John David Smith, Don Smith, Bill Smith, and a sister, Neva Hanna. Funeral services were held at Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora. Interment followed the ceremony in Onstott Cemetery in Xenia, IL, with Military Honors.
