In April, 1866 he married Mary E. Boyles. Nine children were born, six survive: Mrs. Minnie sheets, Mrs. Cora McGrew, Arthur and Chester, Edgar, F. C. Chaney. His first wife died March 9, 1898 and he then married Mrs. Kitley in 1903. He was a brother of C. C. Chaney and Mrs. E. Mcgilton of Clay City, D. F. Jenner Dewhirst. She was united in marriage with Jerome Scherer June 1, 1930 in Richland County. Mrs. Scherer was a well known beautician. She was a very active member of the First United Church of Christ and the Women's Guild of the church. Besides her husband Jerome, she is survived by three sons, Jerry T. of Decatur, Richard D. of Route 6, Olney, and Gaylord L. of Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Juldine) Maloney of St. Charles, MO; three brothers, Willard R. Dewhirst of Clay City,Dr. L. W. Dewhirst of Lakeland, FL, and Herman J. Dewhirst of Tracy, CA; four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Smith of Bakersfield, CA, Mrs. Gilbert (Zelma) Toliver of Noble, Mrs. Earl (Winona) King of Olney and Mrs. Joe (Lenora) Sunday of Clay City; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Scherer was preceded in death by an infant brother. Funeral services will be Tuesday at the Zirkle Funeral home with burial in the Crest Haven Cemetery. Barnes and mother of nine children, eight by a first marriage and one by a second, died yesterday at her home here at the age of 80 years. Mrs. Barnes was born September 22, 1847, in Tennessee, and came to Illinois when a child of ten years with her parents, Reuben and Mary Wright. She was married in 1873 to John Abbott, who died in 1891, and in 1892 to Emanuel E. Barnes, who died in 1916. The children are: Mellie Oglesby, Mondown, Wash., Alice Jordon, Abraham A. Abbott, Mary Abbott and George B. Barnes, Homer. Grace Byrd and Roy Abbott, Decatur; Newman Abbott, Lyndon, Ill., and Percy Abbott, deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Christian church of which Mrs. Barnes had long been a member, with Rev. W. H Hardaker, pastor of the Webber Street Church of Christ, Urbana, officiating. Interment will be made in G.A.R. cemetery. The deceased and her husband, Henry, were married 67 years at the time of his death in 1970. Mrs. Gill died on their 71st wedding anniversary. Juanita was born on February 11, 1915, to Adolf and Winnie May (Sparling) Lister in Ingraham, Illinois. On May 29, 1930, Juanita married Delbert Madison Hilderbrand in Clay County, Illinois. Juanita spent her life as a homemaker. She dedicated her life to the care and upbringing of her family. Juanita is survived by her daughter, Betty Eastin; sons,, Thomas J.
